  1. Is the fluid level corect when checked according to the owner's manual when hot and is it a nice cherry red colour with no burnt smell? There is a temperature sender unit on these transmissions it may be worth checking that this is providing the correct output given the fault has only begun to occur since the ambient temperature has fallen. I'm not convinced with the fluid flush method but I have had no problems when I did the 2 litres out/2 litres in method over a few days with 10 litres of new Type IV fluid.
  2. Messi is correct re the mixing of the coolant and transmission fluid, there is a transmission cooler mounting inside the base of the radiator that has in the past failed resulting in complete transmission failure.
  3. Blimey were the approved insurance repairers called "Roy Rogers Car Repairers" ( for those too young to remember Roy Rogers was a cowboy). Looking at the distortion I would doubt they would ever fit back correctly,looks like they were ripped out. The linings should be behind the lip of the arches held with a combination of plastic clips and 10mm bolts.

  5. Symptoms suggest a stuck EGR valve, fairly easy DIY job to remove and clean it.
  6. If you have a digital multimeter you can measure the resistance of the sensors, IIRC they should read around 1200-1500 ohms, if you don't get any reading the sensor is open circuit and therefore faulty. Just disconnect the sensor at the plug/socket and measure across the 2 pins.
  7. I always use Lexus Derby and find them excellent, admittedly they don't service my car but for spares they are always good to me,give me my LOC discount and even if I only spend a tenner for a filter provide the usual complementary hospitality. Might be worth finding out being local to you.
  8. Hi, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on the IS200d purchase. As Wendle suggests avoid the automatic car washes and do the job by hand, it will preserve the paint and you get the added satisfaction of admiring the end result performed by your own efforts. What I tend to do with my alloys is remove them twice a year to clean the insides, wash them with the normal car wash/wax stuff when on the car then dry them off before applying some wheel seal wax. Lexus alloys have in the past been notorious for paint peeling and corrosion but with a bit of effort this can be avoided or at least the finish maintained for longer.
  9. Page 202 of your owner's manual explains it all. Look up "Setting Automatic Transition" If this is set to ON the screen will revert to the previous one ( in your case Sat Nav) within 20 seconds if no input is given by touching the screen. Not sure if the later engines have one but the series II GS300 had a little seperate oil filter for the VVTI oil feed, these weren't replaced as a service item but did eventually clog up and cause low VVTI oil pressure so may be worth finding out if this was carried over to later model engines. Just had a look on Toyo.diy and they do apparently have these filters, there are 2 one for each bank (this is based on the GRS190R-BETQHW model) Part number is 15678-46020 for both.
  11. I'd have thought running 22s could be a major camber adjustment and as they say in the USA a "fender roll"
  12. Not sure but they were the nearest fit I could get when I had them made after a reg number change,the originals were more square.
  13. My first car was an allegro, mint metallic green, xwa 32t.....my father had xwa 34t. I also had one of them 1100cc metallic blue with a square steering wheel, differential gears broke up on it!

I'm surprised dealer level diagnostics cannot trace the fault unless it is a mechanical problem like clutches and brake bands in the transmission, my LS400 even has transmission diagnostics at over 20 years old. It may be worth consulting with a specialist transmission specialist if Lexus cannot come up with a solution.
  15. Must be a quality issue as all my discs are original at 86,000/nearly 21 years old and hardly and wear lip present.
  16. I take it that your dealer is Lexus and therefore the correct ATF was used? Also sounds like sticking shift solenoids to me,they can get gummed up and jam. Why was the one solenoid originally replaced? They are normally replaced as a complete set on the Aisin transmissions.
  17. I had the same problem on a LS400 as the battery was slightly narrower and one side of the clamp didn't fit on top of the battery, I used a small block of wood which filled the gap between the battery and clamp (covered it in black insulation tape for cosmetic purposes).
  18. Hello and welcome to the LOC. To determine for sure if you have a fuel or spark problem by some "Easy Start" or similar then after making sure your battery is fully charged get someone to turn the engine over while you spray some of the stuff into the air intake ( may be easier if you remove the filter). Be caeful how much you spray in incase it backfires! If the engine attempt to run using this the spark is present and you have a fuel issue. If it is a fuel issue it may be worth adding a few gallons of fresh as petrol does go off with age.

I would have thought an EGR malfunction would have brought up the EML but I had a similar problem with loads of white smoke and loss of power on a diesel van which turned out to be the EGR valve. I would check this 1st as it is fairly easy to access and they generally respond well to cleaning, also if I remember correctly the EGR system doesn't kick in until the engine has warmed up which would tally with your symptoms and it could affect your idle (tickover) speed.
