  1. They suit the car nicely, when I was looking for some 18s it took a good while to find a decent set which would fit without modifications, a lot of Japanese cars have the same stud pattern and PCD but didn’t suit. When I managed to curb one I had then refurbished in anthracite. Did you make sure the wheels nuts were the correct type for the wheels, Lexus don’t use the tapered type. BTW have you informed your insurer of this “modification”?
  2. I’ve just read about another scam which this time involves the “card reader” given out by some banks to customers and used to confirm identities and payments. Apparently scammers are now sending these out to people then ringing a few days later pretending to be the bank and asking for confirmation of receipt of the reader. They then ask the customer/victim to put their card into the machine plus their PIN. Result is an empty account!
  3. Hi Frank and welcome to the LOC. These look the same but UK based ( price has increased obviously!) https://tinyurl.com/3xuk7ef3
  4. Has the battery been disconnected while the other work was carried out?
  5. Blimey, I don’t know where they got these figures from ! According to our survey, car insurance is the third most expensive average household bill, behind: Council tax, at £984 (mine £2890) Energy bills, at £694 (mine £2400)
  6. Take a look at this post from CL particularly post #16 https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rc-f-2015-present/957190-unique-problem-rcf-with-dead-battery-and-mechanical-key-not-opening-the-door.html
  7. Good news then Rory, would you like me to change your location to Alaska yet? 😀
  8. I remember this, you were the guy who used the fish knife to spread butter on your bread roll. Did you not hear the tutting and notice the rolling eyes at the time, even the butler gave a discrete cough into his glove. 😀
  9. No the filter or “oil strainer” as Lexus call it is mounted below the valve body so is accessed by removing the sump pan. IIRC and according to the diagram there is no separate gasket for the sump pan they use a special liquid gasket (FIGGS or something like that) which has to be applied using a specific method.
  10. Very difficult to determine the cause from a video as mentioned previously, so is the noise coming from around the centre console area and does continue above 1500 RPM or only at that engine speed? If the former it would suggest something is resonating at that particular frequency. A stethoscope may be the best diagnostic tool here to poke around and try to localise the noise more. Also try changing the climate control settings from hot to cold and flow direction to see if it is being caused by one of the actuator flaps rattling.
  11. I noticed when the dark winter nights arrived that the control buttons and switches didn’t always light up when the external lights were switched on but the cluster dimmed as normal. Not a major problem but if I wanted to adjust, for example, the cabin temperature I couldn’t see the button. Having done the usual trawl of the Internet I discovered that it was a known problem but with no specific solution. Some owners had replaced the dimmer rheostat, others the light sensor on the dash without curing the fault. The other day I was watching a YouTube video from a guy called “The Care Car Nut” who has purchased a 600,000 mile LS430 and this particular episode covered similar symptoms to mine but also no tail lights. I have attached the link should you wish to watch it. Following the video I accessed the unit and found the green wire mentioned and confirmed there was no 12V output but rather than try and repair the unit and the risk of causing more damage I ordered a secondhand one from an EBay seller in Lithuania ( I did contact the guy in Lancashire but he wanted nearly 3 times as much!) I am hoping when the other unit arrives I can fit it and confirm the fault is fixed, at that point I will open my old unit and see if I can diagnose the cause and rectify it. Hopefully something simple like a bad connection. https://youtu.be/H_cuB6KOmBA
  12. Hi Jill and welcome to the LOC. If you could provide a few more details like which door it is and perhaps a picture of the damage I can look up the part and advise further. Generally the trim is held on with double sided tape and clips so DIY is possible with care, the only problem is if the part is colour coded i.e. painted the same colour as the rest of the car as most replacements need painting first. The other option of course is to find a local body shop or “smart” repair company with a good reputation. The picture below shows the trim fitted and the fixings location.
  13. Just for a bit of fun after spotting this on Fleabay. https://tinyurl.com/yx5prjks
  14. Perhaps others and my own comments on every RX450h post on the Lexus Facebook page plus all the comments on here have finally got results.
  15. Perhaps being stolen by CanBus access should also be considered after this model made it into the top 10 stolen cars list. I would get an insurance quote before buying as some insurers including Lexus are now refusing cover.
  16. Good point Howard, if that was the offside I wonder what the near side is like having collected all that gutter salt and grit over the years.
  17. Not sure where to post this so you guys have it 😀
  18. Surely someone can use photoshop 😀
  19. I wouldn’t connect anything like an inverter to a hybrid 12 Volt auxiliary battery, the battery is not designed for a constant high current draw of around 15 Amps (roughly based on your wattage figures). Even a standard 12 V 70 Ah car battery would be lucky to last 4 hours before being flat. Could you explain a little more on what you are trying to do?
  20. Here’s a quote from an article ( full article in link) regarding the infamous LS400 cruise control recall. How times have changed from this level of service to “we don’t know anything about the problem or fix” From Flagship to sinking ship perhaps for Lexus/Toyota? https://medium.com/swlh/how-lexus-turned-its-first-loss-into-its-biggest-win-ccece35ae3a1 ”In the last quarter of 1989 Toyota found itself in an awkward situation. The company had just launched its Lexus line, debuting the LS400 model that September. By December, 8,000 cars had been sold and it seemed that Toyota actually had a chance to penetrate the United States’s luxury car market. Everything was going well until two drivers of LS400s reported a minor issue with their cruise control. Lexus could have waited for more problems to come forward, but because the luxurious line was in its infancy, Lexus made a bold move and voluntarily recalled all 8,000 LS400s it had sold.”
  21. I suppose mine could be seen as an old experienced drug dealers car, wife sits in the back with the stash 😀
  22. Batteries are my problem, the old Celsior must have had 4 or 5 in 16 years of ownership and I’ve just replaced it on the new one. Problem is, as you mention Malc, lack of use, I am averaging 2K a year with just local shopping runs and maybe 4 x 40 mile round trips to the local airport where it then stands again for 2 weeks at a time. Straight pass with no advisories on the MOT again @ 80,000 miles so another year to enjoy.
  23. I was initially thinking £17K for a 1992 LS400 was a little OTT but having looked at a similar JDM model with a mere 8000km shipped to Southampton for $13,000 plus taxes, plus registration etc and unseen maybe not a bad price after all. That old 1994 I had cost me £3750.00 back in 2006 with 38,000 miles. (Love to know what’s happened to this as it was resold again shortly after I sold it and now shows as MOT expired) Prices have certainly gone up!
