  1. I paid £3750.00 for my 1994 import with 38,000 in 2006 so adding 6 years to the age of the car this one would have cost me the same for a series IV so yes I would have gone for it at that price.
  2. I like the sound of that, so I'll be fitting wings and a rear stabiliser and changing the auto shift from PRND21 to Park,Taxi,Take off thrust,V1, Rotate. :)
  3. A member recently bought one and then discovered it was extremely rusty underneath so 1) don't buy that one and 2) check underneath as well as on top. There is a topic on the rusty one somewhere in the SC forums. Good luck in your search, feel free to post links to any you fancy and we'll give you feedback...finally Happy Christmas :)
  4. The other consideration is whether there is also piston top damage or even bore damage if the valve heads have broken off which you won't know until the head is off or even damage to the camshaft components.
  5. IIRC the later LS400 was fitted with the same type of motors as the LS430 which are unrepairable unlike the earlier ones. The ferrite within the motor breaks up jamming the thing. Replacements as always are not cheap but are the same as some Landcruiser models.
  6. IIRC you will need to remove the fixings on the wheel arch liner nearest the repeater and then pull it back out of the way. Once you have access to the rear of the repeater you should be able to see how it is held in place, from what I remember you squeeze 2 lock tabs in on the buld holder section and it should then pop out of the wing.
  7. That sounds reasonable to me if the condition and mileage are warranted, does that include delvery as it may be another £50.00 for a pallet courier? Had the cam belt been chewed down to around 1/2 inch wide by any chance before it broke? Also if the engine you buy has no definite record of a belt change do it before fitting along with all the idlers pulleys and water pump, the last thing you want is a repeat.
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC :)
  9. Hi Anthony, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on achieving a position within Lexus, it is reassuring to know we as members can now benefit from a 50% discount on list price for a new Lexus :) :) :) I'm sure some of our members in return will be able to provide suitable questions for your quiz.
  10. 5 stud wheels I notice, wonder if the PCD is the same as a Lexus :) Talking of other cars, popping down south at the weekend to take a look at a Maseratti 4200 :)
  11. Sounds good to me, a good run to blow the cobwebs from my 8 cylinders :)
  12. Not heard of or seen one supercharged but if you do go ahead post up the progress :)
  13. Running out of petrol is inconvenient, running out of washer fluid and having poor forward vision is potentially dangerous :)
  14. Hello and welcome to the LOC. A common problem on some Lexus cars is the main alternator fuse failing when the battery is flat/recharged/refitted. It is normally located in the engine bay fusebox rated at 80A and may be labelled as the "Alternator fuse" This fuse is not a straight plug in/out like other fuses so needs care when replacing. So I would start with inspecting this fuse first and all the others. Are you not a breakdown club member as these guys generally would be able to sort the problem?
  15. Well there's an admission, they've had too many high cost warranty claims in the past due to unreliable parts so price accordingly.
  16. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I'm no diesel expert but the EGR valve block on the 220d is well known for clogging up and giving poor performance issues, a reasonable DIY job to remove and clean there is even a video tutorial on Youtube. I take it there is no EML illuminated?
  17. Don't worry,I've seen worse this week with incorrect wiring connections :)
  18. If mine ever fails again I'm going where you went,my back's never been the same since changing those contacts :)
  19. I was thinking about lowering, maxing out the camber, rolling the fenders and fitting some deep dish 20" rims on mine plus maybe a full respray in a different color. :)
  20. I would have thought a sticking solenoid would prevent correct gear changes and selection, sounds more clutch/brake band related to me.
  21. To clarify you took it to a garage for a cambelt and waterpump replacement and the idle speed was OK but when you got it back the idle was 3K? First thing I would do is take it back and ask them to sort it free of charge.
  22. Rear wheel drive cars generally have a tighter turning circle than FWD or 4WD.
  23. Hello Jack and welcome to the LOC. I take it the car was a private purchase so no dealer comeback? I've never heard of a complete transmission failure on a GS300, the 5 speed Aisins are generally very reliable. You have already checked the fluid levels so it may be worth disconnecting the battery for a short while to reset the transmission ECU. If you still have problems it may be a case of finding a good auto transmission specialist.
  24. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Is it the IS250 that has a large difference in road tax between automatic and manual transmissions?
