From past experience attempting to remove an old ABS sensor results in terminal damage to it as it is normally well corroded into the hub so I would go with a new replacement.

Locate the lower radiator hose and follow it away from the rad, at the other end it will connect to the thermostat housing, remove the hose, the 2 bolts (12mm) and remove the thermostat housing to expose the thermostat. Replace the thermostat making sure the jiggle valve is at the top, replace the O ring seal in the thermostat housing and refit averything then refill the coolant lost.

I'm not familiar with the later GS300 unless it is still the same model as the 2000 model I had, the transmissions can be a little strange when not fully warmed up ( they tend not to go into top gear to protect the transmission) and if the road speed is too high they won't change down to avoid over reving the engine or damaging the transmission. Take it for a good long test frive to get everything fully warmed up then try it again.

Good result, with mine being a JDM model it was never fitted with an EGR system so nothing to fail in that department also proves the engine runs no different without it.

My documents arrived this morning as promised within 5 days, even have an agreed value cerificate. Correct about the no claims discount as it doesn't apply to these policies,apparently I need to use it within 2 years or lose the lot if I ever change cars, might buy a cheap group one and insure that when the time comes just to retain the NCD.

I feel really lucky to get hold of the one I did, bought from a part time dealer in Blackpool ( used to run the Mornington Hotel) and he was the most honest guy I've probably met (for a car dealer :) ). Took the train up and after a long test drive around Blackpool decided to buy it with a cerified conversion mileage of 38,000. His next door neighbour had even bought one off him. Not wanting to carry the cash on the train he then took me down to Lytham in his personal Nissan GTR to collect the £3750.00 I paid for it and after 9 years of ownership it has been and still is a peach. Apart from regular DIY servicing I replaced the blacked out LCD and replaced the original ICE system, no PS pump leaks ( I check regularly but now needs the IACV replacing as it initially puffs a little white smoke out of the exhaust when its been stood a few days). Dash is original and never had the flicker problem, trunk hinge loom never failed. Starter motor done a few years ago with a contact/plunger set and cambelt replaced around 5 years ago. Lucky maybe,happy yes,ever selling it....doubtful especially with my latest insurance premium :) Good examples must still be out there but rarely come up for sale unless at the crazy prices we have seen recently on ebay.

A stuck closed thermostat would be No.1 suspect followed by a faulty pressure cap although that would be evident with coolant loss which you say was not evident. I would pull the stat and pop it into some boiling water on a bit of wire and observe if it opens to confirm. It would also help to read the diagnostic codes, if the EML came on there should be a stored code in the memory.

Winter's not good for my OEM floor mats particularly as they are beige and I've bought in the past some cheap and nasty ones to use in their place but that's just it they look cheap and nasty and are ill fitting. Popped into my local Aldi today and came out with a set of thick albeit black rubber floor mats,the complete front and rear set. Unlike most replacement mats these are designed to be trimmed to fit the floor area, important with the LS to avoid fouling the floor mounted accelerator pedal. Once trimmed they fit quite well,slightly too narrow to hook over the fixings on both sides but I managed to make a hole in the fronts to at least fix them on the outer hooks and they are quite weghty so won't move around Not bad for around £8.00 for the set, the OEM ones are currently in the bath being cleaned :)

There used to be a local dealer who had the habit of listing all his stock cars on fleabay for a pound ( obviously avoiding fees) then as you read the listing they were of course at retail prices. Passing by one day I casually walked into the showroom,slapped a pound coin down on his desk and said "That's for the Vauxhall Astra on the forecourt advertised on fleabay for a pound could I have the V5c please?" The look on his face was worth its weight in gold as he stuttered and tried to explain. Haven't seen one from him since :)

If the volume display is not changing on the head unit display when the control is operated it could also be a fault with the head unit, check all applicable fuses 1st then go from there. Another thing to try is disconnect the battery +ve for a short while to see if this resets the audio system but make sure that you have any required security codes to hand that may need putting in.

If you want OEM parts it will be via Lexus only or have a look for one being broken for the required bits (always cheaper :) ) The petrol models should be the same with cosmetic parts. Make sure you have full service documentation as there were major problems with the engines on the 220d models,many had them replaced under warranty.

Do these filters act on the air being blown through the seat or do they filter the air being sucked into the seat so if you pass wind whilst driving the smell is adequately removed before passengers begin to notice :) Obviously if the filters are missing altogether you will get those funny silent looks from passengers as you discretely press the one touch driver's window down switch.
