  1. Any good garage can test for HGF by a compression check, pressure check and also sniffing the air in the coolant expansion tank with the MOT emissions probe to test for combustion gases in the coolant. Even though it's nly 2 years since the EGR valve was changed check this 1st as they do seem to clog up quickly, also depends on how the car is driven and where, all diesels need a good long motorway run regularly to keep both the EGR and DPF happy. Could also be a software issue with the DPF regeneration?
  2. If they kept the same system as my LS400 there is a control knob to alter the intensity of the dash and control button lighting but the footwell lamps cannot be changed. I would ask your dealer when in next.
  3. For those members with the non posh version and limited leg reach these are available from Lexus dealers complete with rubber bands to attach them (universal fit) :)
  4. £250.00 to replace one rear spring? Is that via Lexus or an independent seems a bit steep to me. A pair of KYBs are only around £80.00 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Rear-Coil-Spring-LEXUS-LS-400-245BHP-Saloon-89-94-/321200317575?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item4ac907e487
  5. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I take it was a private sale so no warranty? Any decent local independent garage should be able to pull the codes for you, then post up the results and we'll try and help.
  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I think Lexus extended the engine issue warranty to 7 years/107,000 miles providing it had a FSH and mostly Lexus SH but it may be worth contacting your local dealer to enquire if you would be covered. It does sound like a jamming EGR valve to me though, there is a good tutorial on Youtube regarding removal and cleaning it.
  7. Hello and welcome to the LOC. There are normally 2 main fuseboxes in the LS series, one under the dashboard on your passenger side and the other under the bonnet/hood.
  8. Hi Steve I have PM'd you not sure if you got it? Yes got your details will sort on Monday for you.
  9. Just out of curiosity if you rev and hold the engine around 2500-3000 RPM is there an rythmic droning noise present which cycles on and off?
  10. The suspension was the same up to the model change in October 1994 when the series III was released. Do you have the Toyota Celsior JDM model as air was not an option on non JDM LS400s?
  11. Had horn pad problems on a 1997 LS400. If the set up is the same on the 430 there is a permenant + 12V supply to the horns so check this using a multimeter, the horn circuit is completed by earthing via the horn pad on the steering wheel. On the one I had the earth wire had broken behind the pad so the horn failed to work. You will need to remove the airbag to access the contacts behind. Other than that fit a seperate switch.
  12. Just checked on Amayama and OEM sensors are £12.16 plus shipping so put an enquiry in for a couple.
  13. Not easy to test these things as you really need to know the temperature during the test but I would measure the resistance when the engine is cold then again at normal running temperature and see if the figures match these At 0 degrees C resistance should be between 4000-7000 Ohms At 80 degrees ( fully warmed engine) between 200-400 Ohms
  14. Having looked at Maplins available stock it appears they have nothing suitable, most of their capacitors are 85 degree rating not 105 degree and they are at that non specific manufacturers. If you PM your address I would be glad to send you the 3 parts needed which will be high quality Japanese parts. If you were closer I would have fitted them for you. When removing the cluster move the steering wheel down and out all the way then disconnect the negative battery lead. Do not power up the car with the cluster disconnected or you will have to reset the airbag system.

  17. According to the specification of the camera system it has 3 record modes, one of which is parking ?
