  1. At this time of the year and such a short distance each way the engine will not even have fully warmed up by the time you get there or back so 15 MPG is probably correct. I did change the transmission fluid on mine at 60,000 miles by draining the sump and refilling 2 litres 5 times and have had no problems before or after.
  2. You need to be careful changing from a 400 odd BHP rear wheel drive to a 70 odd BHP front wheel drive car, the totally different handling characteristics could catch you out :)
  3. It will be out of the engine extended warranty period now which was 107,000 miles/7 years whichever comes 1st so recourse through them would be futile ( Star Trek, the Borg always wanted to say that :) ) Worn valve stem oil seals normally give off smoke on a cold startup after the car has been stood sometime. It may be worth cleaning the EGR valve as these do get clogged up,there is a good DIY video on Youtube. If you generally only do short trips another idea is to give the car a good long motorway run on a regular basis at higher than normal revs to ensure the DPF gets regenerated fully.
  4. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Sorry I'm not familiar with the bluetooth system but will move this topic to the 220d section where you may get more responses from owners. Sometimes disconnecting the battery resets all the systems but this can upset other functions like radio security codes so make sure you have this if you do,
  5. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Blue smoke is normally oil being burnt but a bit unusual on such a low mileage engine, has there ben any warranty work done on it regarding the head gasket issues they tend to suffer from?
  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Nice choice of Lexus model :)
  7. Hello and welcome to the LOC. IIRC it should begin by folding the headrest forward and down then the backrest should fold down on top of the seat base at the same time the seat moves fully forward. It may be a programme memory which needs resetting so if it's a dealer battery change ask them to take a look. The function should also be described in your owner's manual but here you go :) Lexus LS600h seats.pdf
  8. Not a particularly "nice man" then. Best thing I can suggest in that case is to look for a breaker and buy a secondhand unit and have it fitted. Found some http://www.partshark.co.uk/used-car-parts-breaking-vehicles/lexus/rx/
  9. Both of the precat O2 sensors were faulty with open circuit heaters on my now looong term Celsior project but this may have been due to running it with a misfire as a result of a faulty coil. Checking heater continuity is easy to do with a basic digital multimeter,if you don't get a reading they are open circuit. Think of it as a light bulb,if the filiment is intact the bulb works if it is broken it won't.
  10. Here's the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221685803556?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D221685803556%26_rdc%3D1 Does look 100% and very well presented.
  11. We can certainly organise one for a little later in the year ( bit cold at the moment). We have in the past had meets at the Plank and Leggit, Sawley (close to East Midlands Airport) so good road network (M1/A50) I will suggest sometime in May so please show your interest by way of the normal list with suggested dates :)
  12. Another brilliant write up George, you should open a shop called "Lexus parts all under a tenner" :) I must admit I love reverse engineering.
  13. Sounds like typical worn out battery symptoms, if it turns out to be mega serious issues I may condier a straight swop of your ISF for my nice 1994 Lexus LS400 with a newish battery fitted :)
  14. It should be detailed in your owner's manual or have a look at the link below and imput your model details. https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/info/my-lexus/resources/owners-manual-search.do
  15. A complete mirror unit will set you back around £460.00 to £490.00 for the Luxury Package Memory version but they do come colour coded, plus fitting of course. I assume the van driver stopped and exchanged insurance details?
  16. Definitely not a 1993, the headlights suggest it is a series III so October 1994 to October 1997 is the correct era for this one. As you mention little detail, would like to know recorded mileage and some history. If you PM me your VIN plate details I would be happy to look up the part numbers for all the bits you need.
  17. Spotted this on fleabay, not much detail but for £800.00 or best offer may be worth a look http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-LEXUS-LS400-AUTO-GREEN-/121565135505?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c4dd8c291
  18. I think you mean Jodie Kidd Another senior momment and thats at the start of the day. Mike There are two stages to senior moments. It starts with stage 1, where you get to the top of the stairs and then can't remember what you went upstairs for. Stage 2 is where you have to pause for breath half-way up the stairs, and then can't remember if you were going up, or down. ;) lol ha ha - is there a stage 3? Probably when you rediscover the free bus pass you have, get on the 1st bus that arrives, get off at its final destination and you have no idea where you are,how you got there or where you originally came from :)
  19. Hello and welcome to the LOC. 1st course of action on any modern car is to have the OBDII codes read and see if there is anything stored related to the problem. It's normally either fuel or spark related but from there the possibly causes are numerous.
  20. Don't think expensive think cheap to begin with :) Check the exhaust mountings and give the exhaust a good shake as a starter, have a look in the boot for loose articles especially under the spare wheel that may be causing it. Brake backplates are another possibility or a worn rubber rear suspension part.
  21. I think you may have the wrong resistor as there is no such thing as a 3.0 Ohm resistor, resistors are made to "preferred Values" and the ones near to your value are 2.7 Ohms and 3.3 Ohms, if you do have a 3.0 Ohm resistor I would like to see it. The resistor should have a colour code consisting of 4 bands, the 1st 3 give the value and the 4th the tolerance. The link below shows a suitable value resistor and describes the fitting and how to check it is correct in value. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5291703-Airbag-Light-Resistor Just remember to disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes before doing any work on the SRS?Airbag system for safety reasons, you don't want to start poking around the drivers side to suddenly find the passenger airbag is activated.
  22. Hello and welcome to the LOC. It sounds like your cousin has initially fitted the new battery the wrong way around so positive and negative were reversed. This obviously causes serious consequences to the cars electrical system but normally just blows fuses. According to the information I have the "Main Fuse" on the 220d is rated at 30 Amps and is located in the engine bay fuse box, where the cost of £150.00 comes from I don't know but here in the UK it is priced around £10.00. The fuse is not the normally plug in type so to replace it the fuse box has to be removed to gain access, the job should take no more than 30 minutes so labour of £200.00 is too much. Looking at the picture below the fuse required is labelled number 10 and is shown at the top left of the picture under the words "Engine Room R/B No2". I would expect to pay no more than £50.00 for both the fuse and fitting. Lexus Part number for the fuse is 90982-08283
