  1. I was so lucky when I needed a nearside UCA for mine, I too got a quote of £525.00 from Lexus and a choice of Chinese quality from the likes of AZ motor parts until I spotted a brand new OEM one for £120.00 on ebay. You think the LS400 is fast but I couldn't move my finger fast enough to click the touchpad at that price.
  2. I saw that and have never ever heard of that before unless someone has damaged it and they take some damaging, they are not like a flimsy petrol tank. Too many pub LPG professors who don't know the first thing about LPG and just end up spreading a load of bovine excrement. Mike. Mike been trying to PM you but cannot send message, could you check to see if your inbox is full please?
  3. You may have to clear the code but possibly just removing the battery positive and giving it a few minutes will also do the job just make sure you have any radio codes to hand.
  4. I have both front wings off a series III ( 1995-1997) in silver in my shed if that's the year you are after, both are rust free apart from one side ( passenger IIRC) which has a small rusted stone chip. If of any use to you PM me, cheapy cheap to fellow member :) LS wings are all bolt off/on so maybe worth having a known good one sprayed to correct colour and fitting it.
  5. Caliper pins can cause this problem, you may also find they have rubber bushes on them so replace these also. When fitting do not overgrease the new pins as this makes them hydraulic so they push back out the carrier. I also try and clean any old grease from the holes before refitting the pins, a spray solvent and some twisted kitchen roll seems to work.
  6. Apparently it was an option ( the only option) so may not have been fitted, but it seems the reclining seats are part of it so if you have not got these you won't have the massage function either, perhaps a trip to Lexus would confirm. Taken from the AA review in 2007 "The car's only cost option pampers in the extreme, boasting electric reclining seats, thigh and leg support for the left-hand chair plus a massage function. Separate DVD player and climate control operation is contained in a fixed centre console"
  7. Good idea, perhaps moving the selector from Park to Low and back slowly when cold started would help circulate the transmission fluid before moving off?
  8. Tyres even new will deteriorate with age, how old are they ( they should have a date stamp on them showing month/year). BTW you need to be a gold member on the LOC to offer items for sale, so please don't turn a "price enquiry" into a for sale post :)
  9. According to the .gov website road tax is only payable once the DVLA have issued UK plates but you still need insurance.
  10. Brilliant forum banter, BTW I've renewed your subscription to the freeview channel BBC Parliment as you requested :)
  11. Apparently Iridium is a rare element and only a few tons a years are processed most if not all of which is used in the manufacture of spark plugs. Due to its hardness it is very difficult to weld to the electrodes and there were in early designs problems from the iridium tip falling off inside the cylinder resulting in engine damage.
  12. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I wouldn't like to imagine your insurance premiums :) The 1st LS400 rolled off the production line in 1989 and there are some still out there older than you.
  13. I also got the same offer in the post, it mentions upgrading to "Business Class" with the GS, more like downgrading from First for an LS owner, talking of which is not included in the offer. :)
  14. I'll be monitoring your interest with interest Phil :)
  15. Take a look on ebay for similar offerings to get an idea of their worth, to remove the TPMS sensors it means tyres of the rims so then selling wheels and tyres seperately.
  16. I think ebay call it "schill bidding" or something like that, sellers either have multiple identities or get friends to bid up the price then retract at the last moment. Seller obviously wanted more than the bid had reached just before auction end.
  17. If the leakage is slight, you check the coolant level daily and the temperature gauge remains normal it should be OK for a short while.
  18. All new cars are tested unber laboratory conditions so unless you can constantly drive downhill with a wind behind you take them with a pinch of salt. Nothing new,Clarkson tested the new electric BMW the other week with a claimed MPG of over a hundred, car managed something like 35 MPG in the real world. I agree manufacturers should quote real world not lab rat figures.
  19. I would think so,it extends to under the bumper where it fastens to it with the spire bolts.
  20. IIRC the way the horn circuit works is that the horn push completes the circuit by connection to earth when the pad is pressed, if you only have 7-9 volts present that would suggest the supply voltage is low as opposed to the earth connection. On the earlier LS400s the earth wire is actually rivioted to the steering wheel centre boss. Personally I would run a wire from the existing loom to a discrete switch to bypass the horn pad. I only have wiring diagrams up to the 2000 model year LS400 but the wiring should be similar, there is a fuse 10A (HORN) this feeds the 12v supply to the horn relay, from there the 12V supply goes to the horn pad on the steering wheel and pressing it completes the circuit to earth. 12 volt to pad should be coloured green with a red stripe, try connecting this to earth using a piece of wire to see if the horn then sounds.
  21. Have you tried using google ? :) http://www.sheffield.lexus.co.uk/
  22. Go on then Richard spill the beans how many miles on yours?
  23. There appears to be some discounted OEM parts listed by Sheffield Lexus, maybe worth a look if you're after pads and various other offerings including a full set of CT wheels fitted with winter tyres for £450,00.
  24. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Good news is that the water pump on the 220d is driven by the fan/sepentine belt and not the cam belt so a lot easier and cheaper. I would think a couple of hours labour ( find a decent independant to do the job) If you want an OEM water pump grab one of these while you can. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-OEM-LEXUS-WATER-PUMP-16100-09340/331465742760?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140221143856%26meid%3Deb8f55954ba14604ad6a7b4b720e4b86%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D231358283518
