  1. Sods law Mike but this is the 4th battery in 9 years the last one that just failed was purchased from Lexus Derby with a 3 year warranty, I have every other receipt for the car but this one and I suspect it is still under warranty. It may be lack of use causing the premature failures, car spends more time in the garage than on the road.
  2. A break in the weather so I decided to investigate and after 30 seconds found this, the cam sensor wiring. So it's now out with the soldering iron, looks like it was never redressed properly after the cambelt change but lasted 5 years since. So not Toyota reliabilty but mans involvement :) Will update later.
  3. Cheers Colin, having now had a little more time it would appear you are correct, when I saw RPM sensor and the "Trac Off" light also illuminated I immediately but wrongly assumed a wheel sensor. Diagnostics continue :)
  4. I haven't got anything constructive to add, just a question. What is this "special tool" you use to read the codes with, and how is it done? thanks. The special tool is a bent paperclip, on the pre OBDII models that is all that is needed to access codes. Simply short out 2 specific pins on the diagnostic socket and count the flashes on the EML/ABS/TRAC lights to get the codes.
  5. My genuine Toyota battery let me down a few weeks ago when the car refused to start after being left at the airport for a week and was replaced. Today the EML and Trac Off lights appeared on the dash so with my trusty paperclip I read off the codes. Code 13 RPM Signal No.2 Code 21 O2 sensor left bank Code 28 O2 sensor right bank. So basically this is saying I have a wheel sensor down and both O2 sensors???
  6. The add says it has already been converted to MPH so no issues there, "Service Histort available from Lexus Ireland" so where has it gone? Only one master key ( knock £250 off the price). One of our members has recently bought an LS from Ireland so read the post re tax refunds etc. Overall looks OK, these cars attract very high VED in Ireland so there are bargains out there.
  7. Hello Rob and welcome to the LOC. I'm no expert regarding diesel engines and my Ford Transit is not a good comparison, if you could get the chance to drive another 220d to compare it may help but if the engine in yours sounds like you describe I would be back to the dealer. Remember the car is covered under the Sales of Goods Act so the law is on your side should something not be right.
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC. The 2 mains things an engine needs to run are fuel and a spark so if either is missing the engine will turn over on the starter but will not run. Intermittent faults are the worst to solve as you are already aware but 2 things to look at closely would be the CPS (Crank Position Sensor) and the fuel pressure. There have been cases of a faulty ignition switch causing intermittent engine shutdown on other models, another is a problem with the alarm/immobiliser. There is unfortunately no easy fix, diagnosis will require time and effort, it may even be a case of waiting until the car breaks down completely before the fault can be found.
  9. I'm a little confused,it was being offered at £999.00 by a trader, now it is almost double the price from a private seller? Mileage has also dropped.
  10. Fully warmed up the book idle speed is 650 RPM +/- 50.
  11. Hello and welcome to the LOC. My LS400 has always made front end creaking noises going over speed humps when driving it from a cold start, I can drive back over them 10 minutes later and no creak, never failed an MOT on bushes in 8 years. One thing to check is seized brake caliper slide pins they can cause strange noises.
  12. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Who has told you these are an MOT failure? If you can wait a couple of weeks for delivery these are available from Amayama.com for £138.78 each plus shipping and possible import VAT at 20% Part numbers are 46503-33010 and 46504-33010 http://www.amayama.com/search?q=46503-33010
  13. Slightly off topic but enlighten me please, is the Moray Firth where when approaching from the south you 1st see the bridge coming down a hill, the bridge itself is very low down a few feet above the water and looking right when crossing you can see industrial buildings a few miles away? Reason I asked I think I went over there on the way to Wick a few years ago.
  14. You can buy trim removal tools for a few pounds, the clips can break but being Lexus they generally survive, I normally remove all the fixing screws at the bottom,in the door handle and interior door opening lever then start at the bottom rear and tug away. If fthings don't move recheck for a missed fixing screw. Once loosened the card normally lifts off the window channel as the card is pulled away at the bottom. You will also need to disconnect any wiring plugs from the window switched and puddle lights. Replacement clips are available from dealers or the likes of ebay/Amazon so it may be worth getting a few before doing the job just in case. If you can pull the card away enough to see the fixing clip where the problem is you may be able to realign it with the hole and give it a sharp thump to re-engage it saving the complete removal. If you want to PM me an email address I'll look up the door card diagram and send it to you.
  15. Hello and welcome to the LOC. It's in the menu system, take a look at the PDF below under section 15, this should also be in your owner's manual. The system can be set to off,30,60 or 90 second delay once the car is locked. CT200h-with-nav-LPS.pdf
  16. Very true Malc, I somehow don't think a speed awareness course will be offered in this case.
  17. Modern cars of any make these days tend to have to learn the way the car is driven. It may be worth disconnecting the battery for a short while to allow the ECUs to reset and then relearn, just make sure any radio or other security codes are available just in case.
  18. From previous posts on the same topic the fault would generally appear to be caused by the bulb itself, you could try swopping the bulbs from one side to the other and see if the fault follows confirming the bulb is faulty.
  19. You need to have the diagnostic codes read before doing anything else, where are you from?
  20. Depends on the circumstances but minimum of a short trrm ban or minimum 6 points, means tested related fine between £100-1000 ( 2500 max motorway) Could also be charged with reckless driving in addition.
  21. Did it have new leather? They don't normally do that, the original cover will get refitted. I know my local dealer uses an upholstery specialist to remove/install the leather covers to may sure that are correctly installed wrinkle free rather than let one of their mechanics have a go. Apparently since replacement the office stapler has been missing :(
  22. Can't comment on the benefits of heated seats in mine, they were never fitted being a JDM model. Most had cloth seats so no burn't bums in the summer and no frozen ones in the winter. Even the range topping C-F model only has heated rear seats. Re Lexus, it would seem that they failed to listen to the whole story regarding the operation of the seats and didn't try it for the period of time they should, probably turn out to be some sensor after they replaced the whole base. Good job it is under warranty wouldn't like to have paid for that job and then be told there is further expense involved.
