Cheers Roy, The one sent to me was 2225 so a good 25mm shorter hence the fitting problem, the old one is as you mention was 2250 but even this is a tight fit with the tensioner fully pulled back. There is a 2260 available so I'm going for this in the hope the tensioner will then sit more in the middle.

Another member was recently looking for the transmission "filter" the other day and was told by a Lexus dealer they were NLA but checking on Amayama they are still listed. There's always going to be old stock lurking somewhere in the stores of dealers, put it this way apart from a front wing you can still buy brand new parts for the Delorean DMC10 :)

You really have 3 choices. 1 Replace the cracked pipe with an OEM new replacement, Amayama is the place to go here. 2 Repair the existing pipe. 3 Delete the EGR system, as Malc mentioned they are not fitted to all models, I have 2 JDM models and neither has EGR and it make no difference what so ever to performance or fuel economy. Bear in mind the job is a PITA as access is extremely limited, to get close enough long extensions on wobble sockets to actually remove the pipe securing bolts are needed It is also thought that the reason for the pipe fracturing is due to worn engine mounts allowing the engine to rock excessively so it may be wise to replace these at the same time. I think Ruud repaired his without special tools a while ago, if you're around Ruud please chime in :)

Take a look on clublexus.com in their LS400 forum for the ECU capacitor problems.

Personally I would be looking at the bottom one 1st,with a FLSH reasonable mileage and the last of the LS400s. The 2nd one is also worth a look but I seem to remember seeing this one elsewhere maybe ebay,private sale so a lot less money. Top selection worth a look about book price retail but although it mentions "Service history" it obviously isn't full otherwise why are they doing a full service and cambelt at 75,000 miles ( these are 100,000 miles or 10 years) Good luck with the search. Yep, no filter as in oil type filter just a Valve body strainer part number is 35330-50010 around £90.00 from Lexus. Why do you think the transmission needs this part replacing?

If the fob "probably needs a new battery" I would have asked why for a couple of quid the owner had not fitted one before selling the car,it's similar when you see "aircon needs a regas". Cars generally with a FLSH have their keyfob batteries replaced as part of the service. Still no good crying over spilt milk as the saying goes, it's now yours so hopefully no further finds will emerge does make me wonder why the alarm system was removed/bypassed though. Plus new tyres immediately after purchase, I hope the "pricey" price was reduced accordingly.

Ok so after my mishap with the cam sensor wiring and fan belt I needed to replace the shredded belt so looked online and found the belt described to fit my LS400. It duly arrived and is so short I can't even push the tensioner back far enough to get it anywhere near fitting. The belt length is 2225mm but also for the same year other sellers have belt length at 2250 but I fear even with another 25mm things will be tight. The damaged belt I removed was a tight fit with the tensioner fully slackened off to the point I cut it off. Some websites quote different belts for the pre Oct 1994 models to post Oct 1994 models some quote the same for the whole LS400 series. Does anyone know the actual belt length for the correct one?

If the cigar lighter itself has failed let me know as I have a spare one in the shed from a breaker you can have.

Hello and welcome to the LOC :) I keep looking at my old LS400 and thinking something more modern but it's been so reliable and looks 10 years less than it is so couldn't part with it.

Certainly sounds like a blown strut.

There is a 7.5A cigar fuse in the internal fuse box, all the fuses should be labeled on the inner cover of the fuse cover. There is also apparently an internal fuse within the cigar lighter itself, the only real way of checking is to remove the ash tray and then check for supply voltage at the rear.

Try amayama for the filter sump drop is 2 litres

It could be the DPF but also many other things including a blocked EGR a code read should help diagnosis

You either need one or you don't, if it's worn out you will need one to maintain safety of the vehicle and for sure to pass the next MOT if that is already an advisory. The link I provided in post 1 is the same part 2/3rd cheaper than your Lexus UK quote.

Years ago with Minis it was always the constant velocity joints on the driveshaft,the rubber boots used to split and all the grease come out and the water in destroying the bearings.

A slight deviation here on the topic but has anyone else noticed the "site speed limits" imposed on road widening type jobs. I have seen one section at 11 MPH and another at 9.5 MPH, now there has to be sensible limits when heavy plant is on the move but can your car actually be driven at 9.5 MPH. Someone has obviously come up with these figures but in practical terms it must be near on impossible to speedo watch at 9.5 MPH.

Sods law Mike but this is the 4th battery in 9 years the last one that just failed was purchased from Lexus Derby with a 3 year warranty, I have every other receipt for the car but this one and I suspect it is still under warranty. It may be lack of use causing the premature failures,car spends more time in the garage than on the road. Lexus Derby must have a record of them selling you the battery. Four batteries in 9 years seems excessive. Mike Yes I did send them an email and Sean the parts guy said they do have a record of the battery being moved?? but no exact purchase date. I'm going to keep looking for the receipt it has to be somewhere as I tend to keep them all.

One other thing to check re the AC leaking water is the condensor drain pipe is attached and clear to allow the water to escape under the car.

Hello and welcome to the LOC. Obviously Lexus would supply one at around £600.00 (you have to buy the complete upper arm as the ball joint is integrated). If you can wait a while there is a company called Amayama who supply OEM Lexus parts at much lower prices than UK dealers. They do take a few weeks to arrive and on top of the price will be shipping and then HMRC will no doubt add VAT to the cost but even at £200.00 all in you will still be getting a good deal for a genuine Lexus part. Tis fixed!!! Remade the broken connection and redressed the wiring and all is now good once again re the EML. Have noticed the sepentine belt has been damaged though, there is a good chunk out one edge about 2" long and a tuff of nylon so off to get a replacement now before it breaks up and wraps around somewhere critical like the crank pulley. Thanks to all who contributed especially to Colin for his spot on diagnosis.
