  1. You could stick a small but powerful magnet behind the cowling so the keys would stick to it but then you risk marking the plastic. I'm sure I read somewhere certain models of cars have this feature inbuilt.
  2. Not sure with the GS300 I know the LS400 can be fitted with the Toyota Supra 4 pot big brake setup, Unless you can get a MINES ECU not a lot of cheap tuning for the V8. Some have converted the V8 to a manual transmission.
  3. Me too! At that price you can't go wrong, the last time I did mine it cost £120.00 in fluid alone and I DIYd it. May I ask which dealer it was in Yorkshire as I'm not far from the county.
  4. Mine is a JDM import and was converted from KMH to MPH using some kind of electronic gizmo connected into the existing loom for the original clocks, a MPH sticker was put over the KPH and that was it. The speedo doesn't as far as I know have to be dual specification mine just has single figures. Not entirely sure but do they have to be converted? Mine was MOTd one year and the certificate stated the mileage as kilometers. Swopping the cluster should be plug and play but not sure if the speed signal will still be correct for MPH from the ECU.
  5. Ha ha ha, made me think about a photograph I saw some time ago where you could fit 2 Smart cars into a standard parking space, you do realise that the Smart car has one thing the ISF doesn't....... a turbocharger! Having said that the egines are under 1000cc. You could always put a sticker on the rear end "MY OTHER CAR IS A LEXUS ISF" I just hope they do an excellent job on your ISF and it was worth all the pain and suffering :)
  6. Hello Anna and welcome to the LOC. Sorry to hear of the problems you are having with the IS200 you have recently purchased. You mention that the car was purchased from a dealer which is good news in that it gives you more rights as a buyer than if the car had been bought privately. Under the sale of Goods Act you have rights if what you buy turns out not be be as described or is not of reasonable quality and from what you say this would be the case. From the cylinder pressure reading you provide it would appear there is a serious problem with the engine which could be a number of things all of which are going to be expensive to put right. Under SOGA the car is basically waranted for 6 months for any serious defects arising in this time which were not mentioned at the time of the sale. Get back to the dealer tell them nicely that you are not satisfied with the quality of the car that they have been given the opportunity to rectify the problems and failed to do so and you wish to return the car for a full refund quoting the SOGA. If they refuse tell them nicely that you will be taking legal advice in respect of this, this is generally all it takes to convince them as court hearings cost them time and money. Don't let them fob you off, don't take no for an answer they have to meet their legal obligations which they have already tried to avoid by refuseing to take the car back. It may be an idea to keep notes with dates and times of calls should proof be needed in due course. You can get help with this from your local CAB or Trading Standards department. The link below may help particulary the section titled "Action to take" http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/cgi-bin/glos/con1item.cgi?file=*ADV0003-1011.txt Once you get rid of the lemon you have been sold come back onto the forums and we'll help you find a good IS200 :)
  7. He's back !!! This guy has more reincarnations than Dr.Who back to Huzzy Sal this time with an LPG Celsior. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-LS400-LPG-CONVERTED-TOYOTA-CELSIOR-GREAT-EXTRAS-JAP-IMPORT-/301608088735?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item46393e349f
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC. A bit late here but golden rule of working on car electrics or any electrics come to that is always disconnect the battery/power source before commencing any work unless you cannot avoid it. I would advise re-checking the replaced 10A fuse and then all the fuses as there will be more located within the under dash fuse board.
  9. If you do find a replacement I wouldn't mind taking a look at the defective unit to see is repair is possible, I'm pretty good with electronics and soldering but couldn't promise a repair.
  10. Sounds great although lollipops and Kitkats are still something I buy from the corner shop :)
  11. Comes up as a VVTI error? I would take a look at the cam sensor wiring, mine got engaged with the sepentine belt a few weeks ago and threw a code with the Trac off and EML light on.
  12. That looks a decent unit, if you were closer I would have helped you fit it.
  13. It is an option and has been discussed on the forum previously. Take a look at the link below, thanks to Club Lexus. http://www.clublexus.com/how-tos/a/lexus-is-how-to-adjust-door-lock-settings-362321
  14. Ha ha, a lurker eh, welcome to the LOC and congratulations on your 1st of many Lexus cars to come, going back to lesser makes is no longer an option :) Feel free to post up pictures of the CT.
  15. Having LPG makes diagnosis more complicated but IIRC there is an emulator fitted which tricks the engine ECU into thinking the car is still running on petrol when actually running on LPG, again this is from memory but doesn't this same device or the LPG ECU also switch off the fuel injectors when on gas? If a fault was to develop with these it could mean the fuel injectors are switched off when they should be on for petrol running. All the other bits like the throttle body, TPS etc are common to both systems so unlikely to be the cause. With the fault clearing after a few minutes may be worth checking temperature sensitive components like the Coolant Temperature Sensor.
  16. Just out of interest how much is domestic LPG a litre, I assume VAT is 5% as is mains gas and electricity?
  17. I've been insured with them in the past, never really understood the club discount, got a quote without mentioning the LOC then asked for my 10% LOC discount to be told it was already included? Reinsured with Footman James this year as a classic agreed value for a third of the price.
  18. TBH I wouldn't have considered putting one bottle of rad weld in there nevermind 2, radiators aren't that expensive see the link below for a 2 year warranty replacement one for £60.00. @ lots of rad weld would probably be approaching half that cost. Also I worry about where this stuff ends up stuck in water ways inside the engine. I would bite the bullet and replace the radiator, fairly easy DIY job or an hour at a mechanics. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-GS300-3-0-1997-2005-RADIATOR-BRAND-NEW-2-YEAR-WARRANTY-/281071055241?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item417123f189
  19. Like earlier engines there are additional VVTI oil filters on this engine, one on each bank. I seem to remember some GS300 engines suffering with an initial top end rattle because the filter has become clogged so preventing a good oil flow to the VVTI actuator on cold starting. IIRC periodic replacement of these filters are not part of the service programme but I am now wondering if these could be the cause of the noise you have. At around a fiver each it may be worth changing them. Part number is the same for both banks 15678-46020
  20. I keep using the next door neighbours wife..... sorry wifi :)
  21. If your mechanic can even find the starter on an LS400 within 5 minutes I'd be surprised, the reason I quoted 10 hours is because that's how long Lexus quote for the job. How long did it take your mechanic?
