  1. There has to be a shaft seal to prevent water running down it into the motor/gearbox, have you considered some WD40 down the shaft and allowing it to penetrate overnight then trying the wiper?
  2. Apparently Volvo transmissions use the same Aisin transmission and their dealers should stock the mobil stuff in 1ltr bottles. Have you seen the Toyota Type IV prices in the USA about $4.00 a quart, please add 300% plus 20% VAT in the UK!. Sneaky move by Lexus, IIRC they buy the stuff in bulk drums so what's a litre or 2 to them, customer service 0 profit margin 1
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC :)
  4. Agreed,Usually find them sat in top of the back boxes, refit with a big washer under the fixing bolt :)
  5. I may have posted this before but here goes. Every year after the winter I remove the black plastic arch trims and them clean them and the exposed arch, smear a good coat of grease on the trim and refit it. I also ensure all the mud build up on the lip of the arch is removed. Never had a sign of rust.
  6. Can I ask was that just for the belt or the idlers/tensioner too?
  7. IIRC the main causes are defective door light switches and metalic objects in the centre console.
  8. Another temperature sensitive part is the CPS (Crank Position Sensor) these become thermally sensitive and without a signal from it there will be no fuel injection. As Mark says get a fault code scan done, chances are the problem is in stored codes. Doesn't have to be Lexus any decent independent should have a suitable scan code reader.
  9. My original owner's manual states type II Dextron but as this is no longer available it has to be Type IV, there are equivalents under the Mobil brand made for some of the Volvo transmissions which are also Aisin. It's the rip off price we have to pay here in the UK with Lexus charging around £60.00/5ltrs, in the USA it's around a 1/3 of this price so if you have someone with a large hold luggage allowance returning from the States...... :)
  10. A good post informative post with quality picture, thank you for taking the time to share your problem. Battery and other main earth points are very important and often overlooked as a service inspection. I subscribe to Car Mechanics magazine and in this a different car is serviced each month, the one thing common to them all is to check the earth connections and if necessary "remove, clean and refit them" Not only can a poor earth cause poor/non start situations but with today's modern computerised cars it can glitch ECUs causing strange hard to find problems.
  11. If you have paid for a particular service or specific goods then that is what you are entitled to receive, it's fairly obvious you haven't but still being charged for it. Nothing really different than going into a Lexus dealer paying out £100K for a LS600h and then being given a CT200h with a smile and a "sorry about that" If they couldn't fit a 13 pin socket as you requested they should have told you this before starting the job not gone ahead with something different then washed their hands of it. If you now need some kind of conversion for the caravan I would expect Lexus to provide the necessary free of charge. If you obtained a written quote detailing the specifying the 13 pin socket take it up with the dealer management and then consider further action perhaps under the Sale of Goods Act. As for the £1300.00 cost to supply and fit a towbar with the wrongly specified socket, I hope the gold plating is guaranteed for life! :)
  12. I clipped a Landrover mirror a few months ago whilst driving my works van but I immediately stopped up the road and exchanged details, the owner later rang me after getting a quote and I paid her garage direct for the replacement. Unfortunately it didn't work out the same for you, all you can hope is that the other driver suffered the same damage. This is the only one I could find being broken in your colour it's an earlier model but I think the mirrors were the same. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-430-4-3-Premium-Pack-auto-BREAKING-FOR-SPARES-AND-REPAIRS-/111645813511?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19fe9beb07 Nearly forgot, welcome to the LOC :)
  13. It does sound like the battery, my LS failed to start a few weeks ago so took the battery off and put it on charge. Ten minutes later the charger showed "Fully Charged",put it back on car and started fine but left for 2 days it was the same no start situation. No excessive parasitic current draw (measured 30mA) Replaced the battery and no problems since.
  14. Iv'e been using super unleaded in mine since I bought it, so is this unnecessary? seeing as how it generally works out to be the same price as diesel which is about 5p per litre dearer than standard unleaded. I've had mine over 8 years now and as above generally run it on standard unleaded, never given me a problem with knocking/pinking.IIRC these engines were designed to run on normal ULP and are seriously undertuned so never really struggle with fuel grades.
  15. If you want OEM look at www.amayama.com otherwise there are usuallly aftermarket items like Daizen and superflex poly bushes on ebay.
  16. I can't find the part number listed, sometimes it's also called the front lip,Lexus should be able to supply one I think they come already coloured coded.
  17. Seem to remember the Range Rover is on air or at least the rear end is?
  18. The earlier LS400 models were fairly easy to do in that there is an 8 pin plug in chip (integrated circuit) in the remote ECU in the boot. New key sets (when they were still available) came with a new matching chip so it was remove the old one,fit the new one and the system worked without any other further programming. Progress Eh :)
  19. Never used it, our engines run very clean anyway so I wouldn't think it would make much difference, question is would you get a return on your investment? I treat mine to some super unleaded once every 4 fills seems to be working.
  20. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Are you anywhere near Petersfield?
  21. I'm planning on fitting a Dyson multi vortex vacuum cleaner on mine, it works by connecting it to the vacuum lines and providing extra suction, dragging more air into the inlet manifold and therefore producing a lot more power from the engine whereas a supercharger blows more air in. It's very consistent as there is no bag to get clogged so no loss of suction, just clean the hepa filter every 6000 miles. I've had it running really well with the car parked but discovered on a road test the mains lead is a little short and the plug comes out of the socket in the garage after travelling 10 yards, I'm obviously still working on this small annoying problem but have seen a 50 metre extension cable on Amazon. :)
  22. There you go then, until the O2 sensor fully warms up the engine will run open loop, if the O2 sensor is faulty which the code says it is it may then provide duff fueling data when it begins to operate after 5 -10 mins. Buy a reputable O2 sensor like NGK or Denso and replace it.
