  1. There should be a switch under the door mirror position adjuster to turn them on/off.
  2. You can appeal the result of an MOT with VOSA but you cannot carry out any repairs until they have inspected the car which could take weeks. Perhaps take the car to a local independent garage and ask them to check the claimed leaking dampers, as for the headlights surely just a matter of adjustment ( some MOT garages would adjust them for free if required) Windscreen chips are more critical in the areas swept by the wipers, if you can't find any I would query this with the MOT tester. £1300.00 to replace a damper and adjust the headlights!
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Your brake judder coukd well be the discs although there are other causes like worn suspension joints. Tyres are a personal choice really, the original fitments were Dunlop DZ8 but now no longer available. The car looks very clean :)
  4. I use my sat nav for the speed in those 50 MPH roadworks, nav at 50 shows 52 on car speedo so theory seems to be correct with under reading.
  5. Do you have the OEM shims and rattleplates and all well copper greased?
  6. OEM everytime, I've tried others like EBC Ultimate but dust and squeal beyond belief. If you have a look on ebay there are some Toyota/Lexus dealers selling parts on there with discounted prices delivered to your door. Here you go http://stores.ebay.co.uk/LexusOfficialStore/_i.html?_fsub=4702605016
  7. The companies which supply the dye/paint for leather repairs normally require a small sample of the leather to correctly match the colour, there is usually enough to get this from under the seat. I think the company I used was called Dynamix.
  8. Looking at the exploded diagram it seems that they are a push fit so a narrow wallpaper scraper wrapped with some insulation tape usually does the job. Insert the blade a few mm at the bottom and push the handle down once the vent begins to move swop to the top and push the handle upwards. Once loose it will wiggle out.
  9. If you have a compressor Aldi still had a few of the impact guns the other day at £15.00 come with several sockets and inline oil lube feeder. Just recheck the torque on the cam actuator bolts we've had a couple of wrecked engines reported when the bolts have come loose.
  10. Yep there are definitely parts missing, there should be a black plastiic shroud over the hinnge and wing area. Part numbers are 53886-53010 and 53868-53010 "Seal, front fender to cowl side" priced around £15.00 each side. May be better to find a pair in a scrapyard.
  11. I assume the car uses the Aisin transmission common across the Lexus model range, the shift solenoids are normally accessed by removing the transmission sump pan. First thing to check on any auto transmission problems is fluid level and it's condition then move onto electrical supplies (fuses, kick down switch etc). On the LS400 there is also akick down cable connected between the throttle quadrant and transmission, adjustment is critical for correct transmission operation so check this also. Again on the LS400 there is also a kickdown switch located behind the throttle pedal make sure this is working and not obstructed with carpet etc. Sorry I can't be more specific to your Altezza.
  12. The majority of places will only deal with their own stuff and all would be reluctant to fit a 2nd hand system as they cannot be 100% sure it is all working safely, getting an LPG certificate would also prove near impossible. All I would suggest is to try and find somewhere who fits the type you are thinking of buying as they may consider the job.
  13. This must be the most common sign on our roads, mainly seen on motorways being upgraded to "Smart" status over several years, for Smart read "We can now control you from our cozy office" Also add this one, the only markings on UK roads ever to be repainted on a regular basis, having said that the cost is fully covered by the revenue generated by the "safety camera"
  14. It would appear to have been delisted now, I would have loved to have turned up with a mobile rolling road and seen his face :) Obviously has problems with spell check :)
  15. Perhaps a little more information, I assume you have a 220d or a 200d seeing as you mention diesel, what year and mileage? Early indications suggest a problem with the fuel injector on no.2 cylinder.
  16. Is that the one located at the side of the M6/M74 near to Stobarts depot?
  17. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Good to hear you are enjoying the Lexus experience, I've seen cambelts at Lexus dealers being offered at £295.00 but unsure as to whether this included the other associated parts. Feel free to post up some pictures.
  18. I recently read a feature where someone has actually repaired a hybrid battery, apparently the failure was due to the reaction between the different metals from the battery posts and the connecting straps. The guy knew what he was doing regarding safety as this is not a DIY amateur project for obvious reasons!!!! I would think it would be safe to continue driving if anything major happened something would shut off the hybrid system. There have been reports of invertor failure due to the coolant pump giving up and poor solder connections inside the invertor. What with this and now reports of stretched timing chains makes me wonder.
  19. For the money it doesn't look bad with the WP included, what special tools have you purchased I 've never done mine personally but would if I had all the cam locking tools and crank pulley puller.
  20. Sounds great although you clocked up twice my annual mileage in one trip :) How does the fuel prices compare to the UK in Euroland, I notice our prices are creeping back up a penny a week, government will never stop it as it means more fuel duty and VAT returns, the greed of the oil companies!
  21. You don't mention how many miles your engine has covered but I assume it is quite high. Timing chains were all but abandoned with the problems of chain stretch and the introduction of the cam belt but are now making a comeback with new technology to avoid chain stretch or so I was led to believe. Replacing a timing chain is more expensive than a belt as there are usually more expensive parts involved and a lot more labour doing the job. From what I've read it's at least the front end that needs to be removed for access and in some cases an engine out job. With Lexus charging say £150.00 an hour it wouldn't take long to hit a £2K labour bill. Unless you know and trust a non Lexus garage capable of the work involved you may have to take the hit although I would be asking why the chain has stretched in the 1st place if the services were all carried out when required. If you have several dealers within easy reach it may be worth getting quotes from all of them, if they are part of the LOC gold members discount scheme it may be worth joining for an average 10% discount. Lexus Cambridge offer a 10% Gold LOC discount on parts and labour so spend £30.00 and save £300.00 :) Also if the engine is still in bits ask for the £190.00 already paid to be discounted ( little point in reassembling to strip down again to do the chain)
  22. It could be the torch in the toolkit, you need to remove it and send it to me :)
  23. Not good news especially if your username gives a clue to your location with the Burneston Toyota plant just the other side of the A50. It may be worth contacting Lexus assist to see if they can get one sooner for you.
