  1. I think DOT 5.1 brake fluid is synthetic so may not have the paint stripping effect.
  2. Check the fuses as the first course of action, next disconnect the battery ( ensuring you have any required radio or other codes first) and reconnect to see if it resets things.
  3. We've had this one before and IIRC the excuse given by insurance companies is that it you have been involved in an accident even as in your case the car was parked you are apparently more likely to have more in the near future hence the premium hike. Absolutely crazy I know but that is their stance on non fault accidents, surely if we are penalised in this way the guilty party should be made to pay the difference in the premium. Does away with the idea that having insurance should put you back in the same position as you were before the accident.
  4. Try putting your tyre sizes in the calculator below (the normal standard fit and the proposed winter replacements) http://tire-size-conversion.com/speedometer-calibration/
  5. As above, online breakers use a network to source parts for newer cars. You should be able to find what you need as cosmetic parts generally don't sell quickly like engines and transmissions.
  6. Very handy information, thanks for the effort and the translation :)
  7. The sound of the rim on a concrete kerb and the slow walk around knowing the rims are damaged before you even see them, for everything else there's American Express. You have my sympathies.
  8. Hi Alec, The usual way is to take a look on ebay and see what's available, problem is finding a good set with good tyres as these wheels are known for corrosion problems and decent branded tyres aren't cheap. Probably better to find a cheap set, have them refurbished then fit new tyres of your choice.
  9. If the cats broken up it would seem to confirm a serious misfire over a long period of time. Hopefully your remedial work will produce a good result.
  10. When you get the part Hugh could you please post up the part number and description just incase someone needs another one for their LS400.
  11. Looks a bit waterlogged to me, the power of water is amazing I recently went on a near Perth Scotland where a river through a town had breached the wall, cars were stacked on anothers bonnet.
  12. You don't need a code reader Rudy, the early LS400 only requires a paperclip to pull the codes. If the EML is not illuminated there may not be any stored codes to see, suspects would be plugs, leads, rotor arms, dizzy caps or the passenger side coil. Less possible is the TPS but this and things like the AFM should throw codes. Also check your air filter.
  13. As Colin suggests take it to an AC specialist, from the bit I know about AC the mist is normally due to the evaporator freezing up then the ice evaporating off it when the ambient warm heat hits it ( you often see this on aircraft when they have the AC running before take off).
  14. Not sure if the battery is anything special, ring Lexus for a quote their battery prices are usually quite competitive and you'll be sure to have the right one.
  15. You need the ADUS 505 bushing kit and have your garage read the link below as aftermarket parts are available. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/suspension/rcabushings.html UK supplier below. http://www.superflex.co.uk/products.php?cat=218&pg=2
  16. It's possible that the battery is being flattened while the doors are opened as the battery is designed just to kick the hybrid system into life after which the hybrid battery takes over so it isn't the usual cranking power type. May be worth having the 12 Volt battery checked especially if it is the original.
  17. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Irrespective of the present mileage I understand the cam belt replacement on the LS430 is 100,000 or 10 years whichever comes 1st so this would be now due based on age. Lexus dealers tend to offer fixed price deals on the belt but also bear in mind this is generally just for the belt and would not include other items recommended to be changed at the same time like the idlers, tensioner and water pump. With the car having covered such a low mileage in the last 3 years other problems may arise with sticking brake calipers and if left outdoors rust issues so check everything carefully. If you would like us to comment further feel free to post up a link if available of the car in question.
  18. Looking at the 2nd to last picture and comparing it to the exploded parts diagram this is the AC condensor drain point so it would appear to be as previously mentioned just AC water.
  19. Isn't there a Formula 1 Patronas team? If so I would say the oils must be pretty good, not used them personally I tend to use Castrol Magnatec fully synthetic 5w-30 bought for stock when on sale at Halfrauds.
  20. I had the same problem trying to remove the battery tray, sheared 2 of the fixing bolts but due to the position it is fairly easy to drill out the remains and then retap the threads for new bolts this time applying some grease to them.
  21. If that's the state of the interior I wouldn't like to know how the service recommendations have been followed. Considering this is a dealer sale the presentation is disgusting, having said that they seem to only valet the cars once they are sold these days from my months of looking for a Maseratti Cambrio Corsa. Delaer T+Cs look interesting with no returns accepted obviously unaware of the SOGA.
  22. I would think it is located somewhere around the drivers side dash area, the ignition lock sensor only appears to have a fairly short loom connector to the amplifier section so this would point to all the remote section being local to this. I looked on Toyodiy but the exact location is not shown.
  23. Sorry to see you go,thanks for all your support over the years, just because you are moving to BMW doesn't mean you can't remain a member of the LOC, just don't ask about BMW problems if they should arise I aint got a clue about them :)
  24. Years ago I remember Mini Coopers could be fitted with a gearbox with straight cut gears and these were noisy in comparison to a standard box, perhap Lexus do the same. Wouldn't hurt to replace the gearbox oil I guess.
