  1. Wait until the new part is fitted, sounds like the tracking has been done without ensuring the steering wheel was dead centred in the past so the track rod ends will be uneven lengths after adjustment.
  2. According to the factory manual the quantity should be 33.6 oz for the 1994 model LS400. Other figures are for compressor pag oil REFRIGERANT OIL & R-134a REFRIGERANT CAPACITY Application (1) Oil Ounces Refrigerant Ounces ES300 (2)(3) 4.8 28.2-31.7 GS300 (2)(3) 4.1 28.2-31.7 LS400 (2) 2.8-3.5 33.6 SC300 & SC400 (2)(3) 4.8 28.2-31.7 (1) Total system capacity, unless otherwise noted. (2) Compressor refrigerant oil capacity. (3) Use DENSO/ND-Oil 8 refrigerant oil.
  3. That was a long trip Rick Hampshire to Dumfries ?
  4. When you say they have stopped working do you mean the remote locking isn't working or they fail to be recognised by the security system and the car won't start? As above 1st port of call is replacement batteries.
  5. The windscreens are all bonded so no rubber seal involved, has the car had a replacement windscreen that you know of? If so it may be a poor bond in that area. Also bear in mind the climate control may be directing outside air into the car at this time of the year so direction flaps may be in different positions increasing the airflow noise through the vents and pipework, try turning the climate control completely off and see if the noise goes with it.
  6. I think they also have an "Ioniser" fitted too which produces negative ions essential for that feel good experience whilst driving ( totally unnecessary with a Lexus of course). The negative ions also assist with saving fuel by arranging the petrol molecules in their correct sequence for burning....ok I made that bit up :)
  7. An hours work for the backlight problem, 55 minutes of dismantling/reassembly and 5 minutes of resoldering the chip resistors.
  8. As far as I am aware there is no one rebuilding these struts in the UK, there is a company in the USA Arnott who did recon the earlier LS400 air struts but unsure if they do the 460 ones. You have 2 choices really either find a good secondhand replacement from a breaker or bite the bullet and buy a new OEM one ( just make sure you're sitting down when you make the call to Lexus!). There have also been reported cases of the height sensors failing so check these before committing to a new strut. Some members have converted from air to springs on the LS430 but not heard of the same on a 460 but you could be the 1st. Having just looked at Toyodiy.com the new strut price is around 1300 euros but I also saw that the South African and Australian LS460s are fitted with conventional springs and dampers so it could be possible to convert to these from air. Not specifically for the 460 but maybe worth a call to find out bearing in mind the whole kit would probably work out cheaper than 1 air strut. http://www.strutmasters.com/products/2000-2006-lexus-ls430-4-wheel-air-suspension-conversion-kit-td14f/
  9. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I had a 1999 GS300 as a stand in when my LS400 was being repaired, still miss it now but the body shop guy bought it off me so still see it around.
  10. Look svery nice, there's nothing more satisfying than cleaning and polishing a car, I find it quite relaxing from my normal job and there's no risk of being electrocuted!
  11. Firstly with a fully warmed up engine the tick over speed should be 850 RPM +/- 50 so 500 is too low, the idle speed is controlled by the IACV ( Idle Air Control Valve) which have been known to stick and cause the problems you have however I would as a 1st action clean the TB ( Throttle Body) as this can also effect idle speed as they get gummed up and if it can't fully close will keep the revs up. Never has a case but also check the throttle cable just incase it is sticking. TB clean proceedure below http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/throttlebody.html
  12. A picture would be helpful here I think :)
  13. Hello and welcome to the LOC. To clarify is this problem affecting both headlights and both main and dipped beam? Lexus tend to switch circuits on/off by the earth connection to compete the circuit so it may be worth checking the relevent earthing points for the lighting circuits.
  14. I think Phil has just posted the last 3 letters of the registration number to protect the owner's identity so the plate would be **** VAR The * representing the prefix letter and the 3 numbers.
  15. Made me smile when it mentions retail value is £7K, scrap value is obviously a lot less. The 3 (go the whole hog and call it 4) dampers alone virtually write the car off. I can see this one going around the block a few times before disappearing to the breakers yard.
  16. Thanks for sharing, I haven't seen it before, as they say at a particular supermarket "Every Little Helps"
  17. Spotted this on the bay and thought it was worth a click, looked promising until I read the albeit honest description and motor car/parts feedback, concluded it was a complete shed being sold by yet another dealer in hiding. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-LEXUS-LS430-AUTO-BRONZE-LPG-GAS-LS460-/221844869982?hash=item33a6fc135e
  18. It certainly was for the Japanese Domestic Market to reduce the heat inside the car when stood in the warmer climate of Japan so may have been available as an optional non extra for other countries.
  19. Hello and welcome to the LOC, it's a pleasure to have a serving member of our British Armed Forces as a member of the club. From the information I have the beam pattern on RHD models is flat with only a dip down cutoff on the beam pattern to the extreme offside ( to avoid blinding oncoming drivers).
  20. Sounds like a totally unloved and abused example when the parts required to fix the brakes are in the boot. Questions how long it's been driven with defective brakes nevermind the rest of the servicing requirements. What does a cheap OBDII scanner cost these days? A £5.00 app on a smart phone? No can't be bothered so sell it with the light on or having discovered it's something nasty don't mention it. Choice of fixing it on the driveway and then hoping it passes an MOT or have it transported for around £1.50 a mile from Cambridge. It's a no from me.
  21. I found EBC Ultimax the worst for squealing and brake dust and this is on OEM discs.
  22. I'll take a look at my 1998 LS400 over the weekend and come back with a "how to" Mike. It tells you how to check the switch in the workshop manual but not how to access it
