Yep they sure do, there should be a thermostatic switch located on or near the radiator which kicks the fans in when the engine temperature rises above a set level. You can short it out to see if the fans then kick in.

It was I who did the repair for Paul, I charged him £30.00 which included the repair and fully tracked/insured return. If anyone else requires this service I would be happy to do the same for fellow LOC members.

Shame but there you go, re reading the posts I would have 1st checked the thermostat and then waterpump. Car is normal temperature for 10 minutes as engine warms up, if the stat pr wp are faulty the engine will then overheat which in turn due to the heat transfer will take out the coil packs.

Went to view the car this afternoon as arranged. A young lady came out, handed me the keys and said take it around the block and have a look around it,ring the door bell when you're done. "I don't know if you know anything about these cars" I replied "That's mine parked behind" "Oh another Lexus, I didn't see that, my partner tends to change cars every 6 months and this is the best one we have ever had but with child number 4 on the way we now need something a little bigger". The car is pretty clean with as described a few scuffs on the rear bumper and scratches on the paintwork, interior is very tidy, all seats good, wheels are 17" with newish budget tyres fitted. Engine bay is tidy with all fluids except the oil level correct ( oil was at the very bottom of the dipstick when checked but oil was clean and fresh) and the ATF was a clear cherry red. Engine starts immediately on turn of the key and is nice and quiet. Only rust I noticed was around a 6" long area under the upper windscreen rubber, the paint hadn't broken but you could feel the lift of paint and see it was pushing the seal away from the body. Rear wheel arches were surprisingly clear of any mud/crud build up. A few fixing screws missing from the under engine cover (haven't we all) There was something dripping from under the transmission area driver's side but could have been AC condensate or a dribble from the exhaust flange joint (no noticeable blow) All discs are new with no wear edges present, both front UCAs have been replaced albeit with aftermarket ones. Boot was clean and tidy,even the toolbox torch was still in there wrapped in cellophane, full size spare with what may be the original unused Dunlop tyre. Needs a good exterior detailing and some quality wax/polish to fully bring out the shine. Didn't drive it as not sure re insurance. Price is now up to 3.3K so may make what he wants, had I not got my 1994 I would have seriously considered it.

This new MOT look up is proving very useful, at one time you could only access this information if you had the paperwork related to the car you wished to check. Regarding advisories when I had mine MOTd for the 1st time in 2006 there were advisories for "scored front discs" and "perished front brake hoses" but these have not been flagged since although never replaced so I put it down to an over zealous tester creating work. Being local I am going to view the Nottingham car later this afternoon, I will report back in due course.

No leads Roy,they are coil over plug.

As above get the fault codes read before doing anything else, guessing is the most expensive way to diagnose a fault. Did you fit the correct type of plugs?

It's all done. Couldn't get it back into the garage until today so another years running at least. The pipe must have been very weak as after I took a look at it and waggled it there was a pool of brake fluid all over the garage floor when I next went in there so the pipe was certainly shot.

Lexus themselves seem quite competitive on battery prices plus you'll get the correctly rated replacement and there's one in Leicester :)

Lexus do supply the telescopic aeriel as a spare part but it's around £60.00 part number 86337-50141

Hello Sharon and welcome to the LOC. The 1st gen LS430 wasn't released until 2001 so do you have this year or a 1999 LS400? Things to check are the ride height sensors and the rods that connect them to the suspension, the rear one on the passenger side tends to snap causing ride height issues. They can be tight, an overnight spray of WD40 and a good wrench me thinks.

All your other questions seem to have been answered but regarding the ABS you need to check the reluctor/toothed rings behind each hub and carefully clean between the teeth with....a toothbrush. Also check the ABS sensors mounted on each hub for grit pickup, they are magnetic so tend to attact magnetic particles so clean any off.

What utter tosh, a programme based on Storage wars me thinks. 6 people described as car dealers most who appear to have no idea of cars or dealing. Buyer "Has the cambelt been replaced?" Dealer "I don't know" Buyer "Does it burn oil?" Dealer "I don't know" "John has just bought a Vauxhall Zafira for £975.00" No mention of the "out" price i.e. commisiion and fees. You read it wrong "Immaculate example of the usual Lexus wheel corrsion problem" With the low fuel light glowing at least it doesn't say "comes with a full tank of petrol" At least it has an MOT, mine doesn't

MOT ran out on 05/10/2015 whilst I was on holiday so got it booked in for today. Failed on rear brake pipe from one side to the other excessive corrosion, didn't see it on my pre-mot inspection as well tooked away. There is a connector block where 2 pipes meet on the offside one from the front and then this goes on to the nearside rear brakes, sure is rusty where there is no plastic covering on the pipe. Booked back for the work to be done next Tusday so no Lexus until then,quoted £40-50 + VAT so for that price not worth the frustration,dirty hands and scraped knuckles attempting the job myself. Lexus actually list the pipe as hose number 9 for around £30.00 which of course is preshaped but it would have been the end of the month before it was delivered to Lexus Derby. Somewhat surprised it has only lasted 21 years :) No advisories either.

Lexus parts list doesn't show a seal as such, picture would help me find you the part from the exploded diagram.

Looks reasonable to me,Blueprint hoses are around £22.00 each on Amazon for some reason there are no stainless steel braided hoses showing for the 95-97 LS400. Mine's also in for the MOT in the morning.
