    Help

Hi Teresa and welcome to the LOC. Seems a little strange that both headlights have failed at the same time as the ballasts and bulbs are generally long lasting and reliable. Have you had the battery supply to the ballasts checked as this sound more like it is missing with both headlights affected, unfortunately I don't have the electrical wiring diagrams for the GS300 but would be looking at fuses, connections and the headlight switch itself before splashing out on expensive OEM ballasts.
  2. Here's the thread from the US LOC http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/62520-how-to-adjust-headlights/
  3. Be interesting to know what is actually involved.I've seen the write up of the guy (may be the same one) who completely strips down the battery pack and tests each cell. Apparently performance fall of is due to the reaction of different metals between the cells and connection straps. Not much of a warranty with 6 months/6000 miles considering the packs tend to last years when new.
  4. Sounds like a good one, it could be the tyre pressures are slightly low causing the steering to feel heavy, tyres low on tread. You can normally turn the steering wheel with one finger on PAS cars. It will have a 6 month warranty under the SOGA so if everything else checks out you should be fine, most Lexus dealers do a free health check so may be an idea to get it in there soon after purchase.
  5. Move the seat to the fully foward position and you should be able to access the 2 rear fixing bolts and remove them, then move the seat to the fully back position and you should be able to see the 2 front mounting positions, these may have covers or carpet over them which will have to be pulled back to expose the fixing bolts. Disconnect all the wiring looms to the seat underneath, be aware that the seat will have a side airbag so disconnect the battery negative terminal and leave for at least 10 minutes to discharge the back up system for the airbag or it may go off unexpectedly! These seats are heavy so get assistance to remove it from the car, protect the sills from scrapes during removal. If you would like a copy of the exploded diagrams feel free to PM me ypur email address.
  6. Sounds like wheel bearings, remove brake pads then spin the wheels and listen for roughness,if you touch the coil spring and spin the wheel you should be able to feel the vibration. Try and wobble the wheel top to botom and side to side with it off the ground to check for bearing play.
  7. I run a JDM import model and as John mentions you are limited on insurance companies that deal with them, cost is around the same as UK spec models but mainstream insurers don't touch them. Never had a problem with spares, I use Toyodiy for the part number and then cross reference the number to UK spec, did have a Toyota dealer try to add a surcharge once for import parts but never been there since. Speedo conversion, IIRC it is not a legal requirement to have it converted to MPH for an MOT it just has to work but conversion is generally a 4 wire black box hardwired into the speed sensor. The speedo will only have one set of figures on it unlike UK spec which have both KMH/MPH but once converted a MPH sticker is put over the KMH. JDM cars are generally limited to 180 KPH (112 MPH). Bear in mind you will probably need a rear fog light conversion done as these are not required in Japan.
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I would check your vehicle handbook regarding the operation of the heated seats,it may be that they only operate when the petrol engine is runiing as the seat heaters draw a lot of battery current which the hybrid system is unlikely to be able to supply.
  9. Hello and welcome to the LOC. This can happen when the battery is disconnected ( the "Check VSC" light may also appear on the dash display). The system usually resets itself after the car has been driven for a while so the ABS light should then go off. Regarding OBDII code readers there have been problems with communications on the LS400 so not all will successfully work. There is another way of obtaining fault codes by shorting out the Tc and E1 connections in the diagnostic socket and reading the TCCS code on the dash display which can then be converted to OBDII codes.
  10. A lady walks into a Lexus dealership. She browses around, then spots the perfect car and walks over to inspect it. As she bends to feel the fine leather upholstery, a loud fart escapes her. Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed her little accident and hopes a sales person doesn't pop up right now. As she turns back, there standing next to her, is a salesman. "Good day, Madame. How may we help you today?" Very uncomfortably she asks, "Sir, what is the price of this lovely vehicle?" He answers, "Madame, if you farted just touching it, you are going to s**t yourself when you hear the price.",!!
  11. You can get upgraded bulbs from the likes of Philips and Osram, I fitted some in my works van and it has made a great improvement. Problem with HID is the original light units are not suited so dazzle is an issue, if you could buy a set of projector headlight units that would be the best solution but not the cheapest.
  12. Hello and welcome to the LOC. As mentioned above feel free to post up prospective buys and we will give adviice and what to look for, I think there is a buying guide somewhere on the forums which may prove useful.
  13. IIRC you can adjust the pedal travel, I'll have a look in the manual when I get more time.
  14. Have you accidentally changed your notification preferences? You want to see how many I get as a mod :)
  15. Also check all the brake flexible pipes, they can bulge out under pressure but look OK. Does the pedal become harder to press and stay right at the top when you pump it with the engine off and then drop slightly under your foot if you then start the engine? Your problem can also be caused by low fluid in one of the dual brake circuits so check that the reservoir is full in both front and rear sections.
  16. Nice write up :) Fortunately my LS has a stainless steel system with the exception of the Y pipe.
  17. Just sold my 1997 series IV should have added another 2 grand to the price :)
  18. Weather forecast! Why does the engine have a Toyota emblem - is it a Celsior essentially? If so, Why didn't Celsior have its own Badge? It is a Celsior so the engine is badged as a Toyota, mine is the same. Strange that it has the 2 piece headlight units, the Celsior has a single integrated units with the yellow fog sections unless it was just the 93-94 models.
  19. Apparently the thick nylon strimmer cord is good for the unblocking job, not the standard stuff but heavy duty type used on the petrol models. Below is the diagram for the RX moonroof it appears there is only 1 drain for the front and back both of which are on the passenger side.
  20. By strange co-incidence Car mechanics magazine are doing a best buy feature this month for dash cams. Best budget buy is the Trancend Drivepro 100 at £64.00 with the RAC 05 at £149.99 taking top place.
  21. Even Will.i.am seemed impressed with the NX in the TV ad :)
  22. Hi Maurice, good to see you on here, I'm pretty good at the moment thanks hope you're the same. Thanks for the heads up, I've managed to drill out the remaining studs but still need to extract the remaining 1mm without damaging the threads,if it all goes TU I'll give Lordy a call.
  23. Black paint is a pig when it comes to keeping it clean, swirl marks, may be worse with a deeper black?
