  1. Sorry to hear you are leaving the Lexus brand but I can't blame you, I purchased my imported LS400 10 years ago and also joined the LOC afterwards but in contrast I have never had a major problem with it in all that time and it was 12 years old when I bought it albeit with a mere 38,000 miles on the clock. Where are you going from here, german marques I'm guessing? There's always the IS250 a Lexus without major problems
  2. There needs to be something to measure the rate of airflow and its temperature into the engine and it's either a MAF or MAP sensor. http://my.is/forums/f221/cleaning-maf-sensor-diy-394837/
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC. A 200NX and now a GS430 at 24, I wouldn't like your insurance premiums but a good choice of Lexus, I do like the 3rd gen GS.
  4. Good point, I missed that. As others have said go to Toyota/Lexus I was quoted £86.00 recently and I think they carry a 4 year guarantee.
  5. Certainly a big improvement on the non VVTI engines and with petrol under a pound a litre it's good all round :)
  6. The LS range and I assume the same applies to the LS600h use what I call "sleeved" wheel nuts so part of the nut actually fits inside the hole in the wheel, other makes including aftermarket wheels use "tapered" nuts so just make sure you get the correct type.
  7. The most common cause on any modern engine with longer than normal cranking times and poor running is the CPS ( Crank Position Sensor). These become temperature sensitive and either fail completely so the engine won't start at all or give out a reduced amplitude or distorted signal confusing the ECU which in turn doesn't know where the piston positions are and therefore when to inject fuel and when to fire the spark plugs. When the engine has been stood and completely cold (i.e when the problem is liable to happen) get yourself armed with a hairdryer and direct the heat towards the sensor ( next to the crank pulley) warm up the area for a minute then see if the car then starts normally, if it does this would confirm the sensor is faulty. Another possible cause is the MAF ( Mass Air Flow) sensor located on the air intake, try disconnecting this at the wiring plug/socket and see if starting and running is improved ( the engine will go into open loop mode using default fuel and timing settings ) The EML may illuminate but should go out once the MAF is reconnected and the engine restarted. Finally you could get OBDII diagnostics connected and check the live data which may show up the problem as it is happening.
  8. Hi Pete,

After a frank discussion with Mike ( Bluesman) we have agreed he did over react to your comments and should not have taken the action he did regarding your account without first consulting the rest of the moderation team.

As such I have reinstated your posting rights, I hope this one off incident will not put you off posing on the LOC in future and welcome back.

    Kind regards,

    Steve

  9. Malc I discovered this the other day which may be worth checking, there should be a microswitch on the main bonnet lock which activates the alarm when set if someone tries to open the bonnet to disconnect the battery. The position of the lock means it is subjected to water and dirt ingress which could cause the problem you're having, there is a plug and socket on the latch for the sensor switch.
  10. The 1st one is adequate the second one may throw the engine out of the car :) Either is fine just make sure it will fit in the battery compartment and the battery connection leads reach without straining, remember the earth terminal needs to face the passenger side on Lexus.
  11. Daw these a while ago. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160798360231?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  12. Oooooh I can now post without quoting Mike's post looks like things are getting better, I was also getting more notifiications than before but this seems to have ceased. I get enough as a mod as it is :) I have now sorted the aereil with a new mast installed, replaced a blown stop light and numberplate bulb and also replaced the broken main bonnet lock, when I bought the car it was missing but found in the boot well rusted with a broken spring. I replaced it with one off m blue 1994 Celsior (now being broken) but this did not have the microswitch for the alarm but apart from this was a direct fit. Managed to polish half before it got dark and now it has rained! Now waiting for the cam belt kit and waterpump plus still have to sort out the brake warning light and washer bottle level light. Transmission fluid looks bad so need 10 litres of type IV, brake fluid also needs replacing. Interior now vacuumed and mats washed so now needs leather cleaning and treated. Managed to flatten the battery with the doors being open all day but has responded to a smart charge I hope. Still work in progress so further updates and pictures to follow.
  13. Weird things happening here, I click on reply to this topic and I get to quote on the 2nd post and pictures no longer appear in the post just a link which seems to go anywhere. Press return and it jumps down 2 lines, perhaps get sorted as the new system kicks in. Anyway I'm hand polishing and sorry about the picture.
  14. It's no good just clearing the fault codes as if the problem is still present they will only come back. What are the codes? Post them up and then we can take a look for you and advise, changing parts without a proper investigation is the most expensive way to fix a car.
  15. Not sure I like this new forum format, I posted a picture of the new LS and it doesn't appear as a picture now just a link?

Guess we'll get used to it the US LOC has had it for a while now

  16. Having recently sold my series IV LS400 I have now gone and purchased another one, this was advertised on Gumtree and was fairly local to me near Sheffield so I went to take a look. It's a 1999 model with 134,000 miles on the clock with a full black leather interior, few bits need doing, electric aeriel fixed today with a new insert, driver's door mirror has been glued in position, brake warning light is on along with the washer level warning light. CD cartridge is missing ( does anyone have a spare?) but has bluetooth fitted. Cambelt is ready so will be doing the full kit with parts ordered from the USA. Pretty clean all round but needs a good valet and polish. MOT until end of July. Bought it before it went to Dudley and it gained a FLSH and new cambelt to become indeed a very nice example :) The ad photos weren't great so here is the best of them, I'll post some post valet ones up over the weekend (if the weather holds fine). New Lexus New Lexus
  17. Kalispera, welcome to the LOC. It looks like it is located under the driver's seat and carpet, the link below is a video which should help you find the plug and how to test the sensor.
  18. I think it should be driven north until it gets to Dudley where it can gain a FLSH, a new cambelt, £500.00 on the price and then it would be described as "Very nice indeed" :) Seriously, the gold badges are OEM Lexus and are apparently 24CT gold plated.
  19. Either the radiator or some members have fitted a stand alone transmission cooler and plugged the pipes on the radiator, not much in it price wise apparently.
  20. I thought it was only British Leyland that stored their unsold cars in a field for 2 years :)
  21. The Aisin transmissions used in Lexus cars are very well protected against possible damage, there is a temperature sensor unit for the transmission oil which via the ECU limits the full scope of the gearbox until the fluid is up to its normal working temperature. During this time the hydraulic pressure is held at a reduced level protecting the seals, probably the cause of your concerns and the transmission will not go into top gear. Nothing to worry about just Japanese self preservation :) If you fancy a bit of light reading (114 pages) feel free.
  22. I've just ordered a complete timing belt kit including waterpump and all seals and gaskets from the USA for less than half the UK price and this included delivery and pre paid customs charges.
  23. Another genuine Lexus part being counterfeited by the Chinese perhaps :)
