  1. Hello and welcome to the LOC. The bigest cause of poor fuel consumption is a defective temperature sender unit, on thE LS400 there are 2 one for the gauge and another for the ECU. With the work carried out thIs may have been disconnected and not plugged back in or the plug damaged, the sensor is located under the front spark plug wire tray. What is the engine idle speed when fully warmed up?
  2. For the full V8 growl remove the back boxes and replace with just tailpipes
  3. Liitle point going back to the dealer you bought it from so I would go direct to Lexus, also never heard of this happening before, sounds like a severe lack of hinge lubrication something that should be done every service but is rarely applied.
  4. There are some right morons driving on the roads these days with absolutely no respect for other people's property, a friend at work had her BMW hit while parked over the weekend to the extent it may be written off and the guilty party drove off. Fortunately 2 neighbours witnessed the incident and along with CCTV the registration was obtained and this is now in the hands of the police.
  5. If the area where the corrosion is easily accessible you may be able to find a local company which deals with commercial air compressor installations who will probably have the correct unions and pipe to replace just that section which your own mechanic should be able to fit (similar to brake pipe fitting). Then get some thick grease on the remaining pipework to ward of further corrosion problems
  6. I recently had mine done, a local locksmith supplied the key case, blade, transferred the guts over and cut the blade. Worked first time and cost me £20.00 all in.
  7. Hello Andrew and welcome to the LOC. It could well be the battery low in the key fob, have you tried the spare? The batteries are only a couple of quid so I would replace at the first chance you get, you don't want to find yourself stranded if the old battery fails completely plus it will either prove or disprove your theory. Another bleep cause is a partially open sunroof so check that too.
  8. Hello and welcome the LOC. Have you tried another fob ( assuming you have one)? And does the central remote locking still work? Not familier with your model year but to reset on the later models you have to insert the key, turn it to the ignition position, leave it for a least 6 minutes, remove it then finally reinsert it into the lock barrel.
  9. I would assume that is the upper control arm ball joint dust cover, you have to replace the complete arm as the boots are not available alone. As the joint is still intact I would leave it for now but look out for a replacement arm, you can get the cheap and nasty chinese made ones which have a dubious quality and lifespan or go for OEM which are around £500.00 each. I found a new genuine Lexus arm for mine a few years ago for £120.00 so worth scanning the likes of ebay occasionally. All in all a good result with the MOT for you, timing belt going on mine today.
  10. Wooh! That made up for the cheap cambelt job, did the price also include the tensioner and idler pulleys?
  11. Just from that one picture it looks like you have found the best one in the country,I always say I would never get another as nice as what I already have but that would have seriously tempted me.
  12. Many thanks Graham the cart arrived yesterday, not loaded it up yet with tunes but will at the weekend.
  13. Could you take a picture of it?
  14. Before you go to the expense of buying a replacement sensor check the wiring loom to them as this has a habit of getting chewed up by the serpentine/fan belt if is not correctly refitted after work has been carried out like a cambelt change.
  15. After 10 years of ownership I have finally got fed up with my LS400 and gone to the other side. OK not really this is my new works van, still trying to get the steering wheel to automatically adjust when I put the key in though.
  16. Cheers for that Graham, I'd forgot all about it, another weekend off that I've had to work this time mid Wales coast! Yet again timing belt is next weekend. Purely a coincidence but a mate called around today with his LS400 so I tried his cart in mine to see if the changer worked and all good.
  17. That's a rare car to find even more so with that mileage, any more detailed pictures particularly the interior?
  18. Print it off and keep a copy, could be interesting when the car is 4 years old and you need to make a claim.
  19. Check the brake caliper slide pins they can cause knocking when they dry out from lack of grease.
  20. Hello and welcome to the LOC. To check the engine mountings get someone to rev the engine whIle you look and see if there is excessive side to side movement, the engine shouldn't move at all. Transmission mount will need to be checked visually. Also check the steering rack mounting bushes. Could also be a misfire is the servicing up to date?
  21. Sorry I never saw this post until now or I would have tried to help. A common problem with the ECU are the capacitors failing causing all sorts of strange problems, have a look on www.clublexus.com under the LS400 section and you will find all the infomation to repair the ECU. Seems strange how the +B supply was missing at the test port, this is not ECU controlled. https://www.google.co.uk/search?sclient=tablet-gws&client=safari&channel=ipad_bm&site=&source=hp&q=1994+lexus+ls400+fuel+pump+wiring&oq=1994+lexus+ls400+fuel+pump+wiring&gs_l=tablet-gws.3..0i22i30l2.5127.22140.0.23012.33.22.0.11.11.0.471.4163.1j15j3j1j2.22.0....0...1c.1.64.tablet-gws..0.31.3629.HWkH4aQ0j2s#imgrc=xLQ7PW3MGZCK1M%3A
  22. Sorry but when I saw the topic title I couldn't resist. The main thing that nobody else has mentioned is remember to breathe when doing the job.
  23. When I got my 1999 LS400 the only key was broken to the point the blade was about to part company from the casing so I had a new one supplied, cut and the guts swapped over. Putting it in the ignition I noticed the security light remained flashing and of course although the engine turned over it wouldn't start. Thankfully this had happened before and some kind member of the LOC had posted up the solution, insert the key turn to ACC and leave for 6 minutes. I did this but the light still continued to flash, I removed the key despairing of ever having the car run again, a little later I reinserted the key and lo and behold the light went out and the car started. So the missed line was to remove and reinsert the key after 6 minutes.
  24. Thanks very much Graham address PM'd. I was in Dunvegan over last weekend working for SSE are you actually on Skye?
  25. Having looked at the exploded diagram parts list although the element is shown as a separate part it is not available as such but comes complete with a new seat base priced around 2 grand !!! Can't find a relay on the diagrams but if you can locate it in the car by listening for the click and let me know the location I'll look it up for you. I can't believe 20 years on from the series III LS400 that there are still problems with heated seats, maybe an option to find a scrapper and buy the seat, strip it down and use the parts to repair yours unless you get a matched one in the same condition.
