It may have been superceded but not showing on the database I have access to, the same part id fitted to the later GS range and the LS430. There was a post recently regarding a clunking after replacing a spring on an LS which was the result of tightening one of the bolts with the car still raised off the ground instead of doing it with the wheels back on the ground, caused some sort of misalignment so maybe worth checking.

Hello and welcome to the LOC. Have you run a fault code read as this may show up codes which may help diagnose the problem as the possible causes are numerous including coil packs, injectors and CPS or other sensor issues.

What is it with this site and uploading photos upside down when it is the correct way up in my gallery? -

By the sound of it you are highly competent with car repairs but did the new strut come with a new top reinforcement ring or did you take it off the old strut and swop it over to the new one?

Hello and welcome to the LOC. What a fantastic first post, thank you for taking the time and effort in providing such a detailed report which may prove invaluble to other members with the same issues. May I ask what trade you are in, I would presume automotive? For those like me that have never heard of the test device here is a picture, still non the wiser in my case.

Factory Amplifier "missing" on 2001 IS200
steve2006 replied to Sirrus's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Hello and welcome to the LOC. As you mention it is usually located on the left side of the glovebox but some US forums mention the trunk/boot. Some better informed IS owners will no doubt clarify. -
Even if the EML isn't on there may be fault codes stored so have them read before doing anything else, thermally affected causes could be the CTS, CPS, and as you mention a coil pack. Did you check the electrical connection plugs on the coils, they tend to become brittle with age causing poor connections.

Hello and welcome to the LOC. Main thing is a good preferably Lexus service history, mileage not a problem with this in general. There is an oil filter which feeds the VVTI system which is very often overlooked and causes problems when clogged, cheap to replace and takes minutes DIY. They are a heavy car so check suspension and listen for knocks, brake caliper slider pins seize but normally respond to regreasing unless stuck in completely. I think the braking system on the MK1 is conventional servo unlike the troublesome later model which had a pump system. There are a lot of toys in these cars so press every button and make sure it does what it should. Parts are expensive but a lot cheaper from the USA or amayama even with the carriage and VAT. Feel free to post up links for potential buys and we will comment both good and bad.

£15 charge for courtesy car insurance??
steve2006 replied to kevmo's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Perhaps asking the dealer to explain the charge would confirm the excess waiver, no doubt your own car will be returned washed and vacuumed free of charge. -
I can't remember the number but there is a road from Stoke to Leek that seems to have a speed camera every mile of so, I don't tend to speed but you could easily lose your licence on there in minutes.

Hello and welcome to both of you. That's one very nice looking LS430.

AHB and LDA not working when cold.
steve2006 replied to ToreOe's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
That does look like a poor design, the camera either needs to be hermetically sealed or heated to prevent the problem, how come Toyota have a solution for their vehicles but not Lexus, I wouldn't be surprised if the system is the same but being Lexus it may need to be ECU controlled :) I can see the headline now "Lexus driver charged after flashing other motorists" I have the auto headlight system on my LS400 but tend not to use it, as you enter a dual lane tunnel in lane 2 the headlights come on, the 38 tonne lorry thinks you've flashed him out. Err no thanks. -
Is 220d oil leak from timing chain cover
steve2006 replied to Asheen1's topic in Engine & Transmission
Hello and welcome to the LOC. As mentioned in the previous post if you purchased the car from a motor dealer this should be covered under warranty ( a dealer cannot sell a car as sold as seen or trade sale to get out of their legal obligations). Must have been a short MOT on it? It depends where the leak is coming from, a cover gasket is around £15.00 but if the problem is a leaking crank seal or camshaft seal the labour cost will mount up. -
The leak could have happened at any time but it seems very coincidental that it has done so within days of a recommended service. If as you say it was working perfectly OK before the service was done it may have something to do with that but proving it is going to be difficult as the condenser could have gone at any time ( it's a bit like checking your tyre pressures and getting a puncture the next day ). If the A/C service has been done correctly there should have been a print out of the gas levels before and after which should show the system was working before. I certainly wouldn't accept the quoted repair price for a condenser replacement, as mentioned by Madfish 25% of it is more realistic. Nearly forgot, welcome to the LOC.

Exhaust Tip Missing

I hope no one is offering these tips for sale on the forum who is not a gold member, I will assume these are being given away with the exception of postage costs :) -
I have the LS400 which does around 18-25 MPG but what does surprise me is that my new Mercedes Sprinter van only does around 30 MPG and this is driving carefully, I always thought these amazing frugal diesels did 50-60 MPG.

Hello and welcome to the LOC. A good refurb will cost around £50.00 a wheel and some companies will loan you a set of wheels while the job is being done. Never seen steel wheels for a Lexus but the same stud pattern is used by other Japanese makes so may be available but do you really want steel wheels and plastic trims on a Lexus? You could try the likes of ebay for a decent secondhand set of alloys but bear in mind if they are just rims there will be costs involved fitting either your own or new tyres.

LV write off!?!
steve2006 replied to GEN's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
OK here is my story. My Celsior was involved in an accident which was not my fault, the other party admitted liabilty at the scene to 2 police officers so no going back there. My insurer decided that the claim would be handled by a "Claims Management Company" who duly took the car away to an "Approved Repairer"and provided me with a similar specification loan car.... a Volkswagen Polo! Sure enough the car was "written off" I was then contacted directly by the 3rd party insurer who initially offered me £1600.00 which was upped to £2000.00 during the phone call and I was allowed to retain the salvage for free, in addition to this they also paid more cash if I returned the "hire car" no problem for me with an insulting Polo diesel on the drive unused. So I basically sacked the Claims Management company (Ambulance Chasers) told the hire company to collect the car and the approved repairers to return the car to me, they were reluctant but had no choice. I took the car to a local bodyshop who repaired the car for £600.00 and I took a nice holiday in the Dominican Republic. It was my insurance company who refused to reinsure the car unless it was cat C'd otherwise it would have not been recorded.
