  1. I quite like how one of the selling points is the “Full size DHP wheel with OEM tyre” I wouldn’t like to fit a 25 year old tyre even as a get me home spare. No mention of service history? Does look clean although I wouldn’t spend nearly 12K buying it.
  2. Have a look for a custom exhaust supplier in your area, I’ve seen quotes for cat back stainless steel systems for a fifth of your lower quote. Or take a look on the link below for systems and parts. https://tinyurl.com/49k5uzfd
  3. I once worked for a utilities company and they “Self insured” all their vehicles, plenty of perks with the job including a generous pension but no we didn’t get cheap car insurance as one of them 😀
  4. I doubt all six coils have failed simultaneously, following Jon’s advice you need to confirm the coils are feeding back a signal to the engine ECU. The only way to confirm this is with an oscilloscope and look at the waveform. Jon also mentioned the “grounds” or earth wires, there should be 2, one from the battery negative to the chassis/body and another to the engine block. Regarding wiring diagrams you can access the Toyota technical site for a fee (even one day is enough) to download the information or sometimes get CD ROM copies from the likes of eBay.
  5. Deleting the codes will not sort the problem, all the codes are related to each ignition coil. You really need the wiring diagrams and at least a multimeter to check the circuits. You have reconnected the Crank Position Sensor located near the crank pulley?

    Hi

Hi and welcome back to the LOC Alan, Feel free to tell us more about the GS450h, I was invited to the launch of this at Lexus Derby (doesn’t happen anymore) and seem to remember they were trying to demonstrate the size of the boot using golf clubs 😀. A few pictures would be good too.
  7. Does it stop flashing when you insert the key? If it doesn’t there is a procedure to reset.
  8. I have 2 suggestions Engine coolant temperature sensor, if this is faulty it could be telling the ECU the engine is cold even when warmed up so could result in over fuelling increasing CO levels due to unburnt fuel Engine ECU capacitor problem this can cause numerous running problems but no CEL codes.
  9. Hello Robert and welcome to the LOC, could you provide a few more details regarding the car? Current mileage and service history? Has the transmission fluid ever been changed (drain and refill) ? Is the fluid level correct? The fault code would help, could you ask the mechanic what it was? Given that the transmission fluid temperature is critical for obtaining the correct level and the transmission already has a fault I would begin by draining and refilling a few times with the correct fluid (Toyota WS) used in the Aisin A760E six speed transmissions. There is a specific procedure involved for doing this which I can email if required.
  10. According to the parts diagram there is just a 5W cap less bulb fitted? 81610F BULB(FOR CLEARANCE LAMP) 99132-12050 12V 5W 2 € 3.29 81615D
  11. Have you also checked your footwell carpets for damp, blocked sunroof drains can cause water to enter the car, stagnate then smell.
  12. It looks a very clean well looked after example with no rust on the doors or window delaminating. Have you had the wheels refurbished as they look very good too.
  13. I think we are talking about the job on a SC430 Malc, V8 engine. Andy I would haggle price down a grand to cover the cost 😀
  14. I’m a little confused here, is the quote for an IS300h or the SC430? Given the year mentioned is 2003 I would say the latter. I know prices have gone up but we are in the rip off UK! I would get myself an Aisin kit and find a good independent with 3UZ experience to fit it all. Just to compare here is a US price! If you say £500.00 for the kit here and 6 hours labour @ £600.00 it’s nowhere near the dealer quote.
  15. I would completely agree with Ikea on the possible causes and would also add to check the scuttle panel plastic cover has drain holes usually around where the wiper spindles are located. If these get clogged the water tends to overflow into the nearby air intakes into the cabin filter housing. Also be careful when replacing the cabin filter as the flap settings sometimes need to be set in a certain position to avoid damage to the mechanism.
  16. Is that a JDM import? Just looking at the shape of the front numberplate. Found this but going back 11 years, not much interest at the time https://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?536670-Diamond-Cut-Lexus-GS300-Sport-Borbet-TTE-Staggered-Wheels
  17. Then for the dud one to return to the spares shelf ready to retail as a mark 2 version.
  18. Ask them to find you a car with the same colour, specifications, prior condition, mileage and history as yours for the money being offered.
  19. Great result Paul 😀 it does make me wonder if Lexus are indeed aware of this fault and the replacement you bought is a modified/ upgraded unit particularly given the 2 suffix maybe indicating version 2. A pity the car is now 10 years old otherwise you could have used the Consumer Rights Act up to 6 years old.
  20. As soon as I saw the words I knew who this was! https://tinyurl.com/53ur4ya5
  21. I’ve moved your post to the ISF section Ray 😀
  22. Interesting article on electric vehicles linked below 😀 https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/07/the-milk-float-was-the-first-truly-successful-last-mile-delivery-ev/ By strange coincidence Linas I have actually driven one, a mate of mine was a “milkman” in the late 1970s and I often used to drive it around the estate for him. If you also consider the bottles were all recycled and the propulsion method used then we sure went backwards before coming forwards again on EVs and recycling.
  23. Hi Ryan and welcome to the LOC. If you bought from a car dealer take it back for repair under your consumer rights. As Vlad mentions read the postings in the section mentioned. Read the diagnostic codes for any potential causes, even if the EML is not lit there may be codes stored.
  24. Good to hear you have looked at both and you have done your research. As you mention these cars are now getting on a bit and obviously you’re not going to get a concours example unless you want to pay stupid amounts of money and even that’s no guarantee. You’ve done the right thing by walking away and waiting, that “good” one will eventually appear and it shows you have a mature head on your shoulders. It was only a few years ago that importing your own from Japan was another option but prices have now gone through the roof (particularly shipping costs). Add in the duty, VAT and UK registration costs and you’re easily into a five figure sum. Another thing to now consider are the supply of spare parts for the older models as they are becoming NLA on a daily basis. Regarding the suspect LSD it does make you wonder if someone has fitted a standard IS200 one! Good luck with you continuing search, take your time as it will eventually turn up 😀
  25. No problem, other members are always happy to offer help and advice. The job is very DIYable with just a few basic tools, there is a Youtube link below. The main thing is making sure that bonnet/hood is fully and securely held up before removing the struts, the weight if if fell down could cause serious injury!
