  1. I have a spare 17" spacesaver wheel and tyre free if it is any use to you and you can collect from Derbyshire, came from a 97 LS400.
  2. In Cyprus at the moment so took a look at the available Lexus cars over here for sale, all RHD here of course. Found this 1998 model with a claimed 17,000 KMs on it, only one picture but looks nice as I doubt rust is a problem over here unless on the coast. Ten times the price I paid for my 1999 albeit with 134,000 miles on the clock, would have been better had the euro not dropped so much to its present rate against the pound. Most of the taxis here are stretch Mercedes with the double row back seats. http://sellbuycar.com/lexus/ls/lexus-ls-1998-cyprus-2010
  3. If the gear knob is the same colour as the seats and you can provide a sample of the leather from under a seat you can get a small bottle of leather dye for around £10.00 from a company in Ireland called Dynamix.
  4. Mounted on the rear engine bulkhead is the heater valve, this may have a cover fitted but there is a rubber water pipe entering from the bottom and one from the side, the vavle controls the flow of hot water from the engine to the heater. The operation is mechanical with a control cable from a servo motor opening and closing the valve dependant on the heater temperature settings. Check to ensure this valve operates when hot and cold settings are selected, the cable c,an be removed and the valve operated manually to confirm either the valve itself is at fault or the control system.
  5. It depends on how much you trust your independent, do they work regularly on Lexus cars, do they have a good reputation, how does the cost compare to Lexus themselves. Have a look at the link below which gives details of fixed price servicing on Lexus with higher discounts for older models, it may work out cheaper than you think. Also consider becoming a gold LOC member which gives additional discounts at some dealers including I think Edgeware. http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/#Introduction
  6. Another thing to check is the bonnet lock alarm switch, lift the bonnet and then make sure the electrical connector on the lock is secure, also make sure the boot lock connections are good as all of these are connected to the alarm system. If the system thinks the boot or bonnet are open the alarm will sound.
  7. You need to at least partially remove the front driver's side wheel arch liner, removing the wheel first will help. Liner is held in with screws and clips.
  8. Alarm sounder should be located behind the driver's side wheel arch liner to the left of the wheel quite high up
  9. The shock absorber sure will have a warranty on it, make me wonder if it was actually replaced or just cleaned up! Not sure about the VVTI pipe, there are oil filters on each bank costing less than £5.00 each so I would assume there is a gasket of some sort involved on the pipework, unfortunately it isn't clear on the exploded diagram.
  10. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Had a look on Toyodiy for you and the following part numbers come up 48530-49595 RH and 48540-49325 LH they are priced at €140.00 but this seems quite cheap for OEM Lexus but may be worth giving your local dealer a ring.
  11. Wow a 1999 Lexus LS400 with only 6600 miles, are you thinking of selling it? If I were leaving the car for long periods of time without use I would invest in a Smart Charger which you basically can leave plugged in all the time to maintain full charge in the battery without damaging it. Some also allow connection with the car electrics still connected avoiding the resets normally required if the battery is disconnected. At 3 years old and little use the battery could be passed it's use by date also.
  12. Came across this today, I can't even remember seeing it before and then had to think what it was. Must have been in a Lexus goody bag as it has Lexus.co.uk on the rear. This is not just an M+S shopping trolley token it's a Lexus shopping trolley token.
  13. More info, one of the ignitors will have an extra wire on the plug connector, either a plain black wire or a black wire with a white stripe on the later models, this is your tacho pulse feed wire.
  14. I also have the TV cabinet but only one twin socket behind it. I use a quality 8 way surge protector to supply the TV, PVR etc which given the low current consumption of the connected appliances creates no problems.
  15. Cut a hole in the floor as shown below, for the sports model buy a decent pair of trainers.
  16. Tacho signal originates from one of the ignitors, these are stacked together under a black plastic cover mounted on the driver's side inner wing.
  17. The earlier models had a tendency to stick at zero but a thump on the dash normally sets them off again but not the series 3. It could be the cluster itself, a loose connector plug at the rear or the tacho signal is missing. I think the signal is supplied from one of the coil packs but don't have a wiring diagram, if anyone has I would be happy to trace the tacho signal.
  18. They only make them for 1st and 2nd generation (up to 2005) at the moment. http://www.superflex.co.uk/products.php?cat=495
  19. There was a post recently regarding replacement bulbs and yes there are cheaper alternatives but still good quality. I can't find the post at the moment but other members will no doubt point you in the right direction.
  20. Hi Paul and welcome to the LOC. I found this video which may help, the delicate bit is removing the glass I find feeding a yellow duster in behind the mirror at the bottom then joining it together at the front and tugging it releases the bottom clips and minimises the chances of breaking the glass. Once it is loose pull it forward from the bottom and lift it slightly to release from the 2 top fixings.
  21. Hello Bernie and welcome to the LOC, You normally have to remove the carpet trim to access the rear of the cluster as it does bolt in from behind. I have the exploded diagram but it only shows the position of the nuts which are fairly obvious as you have a new cluster to refer to. This may help http://www.lexomans.com/manguide-743.html
  22. Hi Adam and welcome to the LOC, You don't mention your model year, there is one on ebay for the later models and some cut it to shape yourself rubber strip which looks tacky I think. It may be worth having the bumper section repainted rather than try and cover it. I know a good paintshop nearby if you are interested. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-Rear-Cargo-and-Bumper-Protector-cover-guard-sill-for-Lexus-IS200-IS250IS300-/252397829346
