  1. I remember in the early 70s when I worked at Rediffusion we had Ford Escort vans and the company had their own fuel supply of 2 star petrol. Any slight incline and the engines pinked like anything, we used to pull the choke out on hills to try and richen the mixture.
  2. Got to be worth a look and not too far from you Qamar up the M6.
  3. According to the list from Lexus the 100k service as described below is £645.00 but what it means by "longer service items" I am unsure whether this includes the cambelt and water pump kit. FULL + 100Our most comprehensive service, with the additional 100,000 mile replacement of longer service interval items.
  4. Could be the alternator loading up, have you tried removing the serpentine belt and running the engine without it to see if the noise has gone, you will obviously get the alternator charge light coming on during this.
  5. New post here, albeit a different Lexus model but with a leaking shock absorber being replaced under warranty. Another case to use in your battle.
  6. Given that one has failed, that the others are sure to follow and the recent posts on the forums of "misting" shock absorbers it may be a good idea to extend your warranty given that Lexus charge £595.00 each for them fitted.
  7. Mine is also a series II albeit a JDM import. I notice with mine that on the rare occasion it doesn't completely fire up and stalls on the 1st attempt it does hesitate on recranking but is then fine after that. You do hear quite a few mechanical sounding operations going on when you turn the ignition on from cold which I assume are to set things like the IACV for cold starting.
  8. Hello Andrew and welcome to the LOC. I understand that Lexus UK provide a 12 year corrosion warranty but certain conditions have to be met for this to apply, I would either check these in your warranty booklet if provided or contact your local dealer. Regarding recalls again your local Lexus dealer would be able to provide this informatIon, bear in mind they may ask for proof of ownership so take the V5C and some photo ID with you. Also check the price of the cambelt replacement, Lexus offer a discounted service arrangement for cars over 5 years old and are quoting £295.00 for your cambelt change. http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/#ServicingYourLexus
  9. Could be due to having 15" wheels fitted, looks like the driver's floor mat is for a LHD model, front offside bumper damaged.
  10. Euro 4 compliance wasn't started until 2005 so a 2000 LS400 cannot be included, the government website suggests contacting the vehicle manufacturer to see if it does meet the later requirements. The engine is very clean mine even at 22 years old still passes an MOT based on an LS430 test with stricter emissions every year with ease and that's without manufacturer fiddled figures! It's just another stealth tax at the end of the day to make up for the shortfall in council tax revenue.
  11. Hello and welcome to the LOC. According to the link below the switch is located under the steering column. Regarding the cam belt it is not easy to determine if it has been replaced simply by looking although with a new belt it should be fairly obvious as all of the timing markings and writing on the belt should be clear and not worn off. You would have to remove an upper belt cover to access the top of the belt on the cam pulley. Cam belts rarely break due to wear it is the other components involved that tend to fail ( idlers, tensioner and water pump) which results in the belt breaking, slipping teeth or riding of the pulleys so you have to assume these parts were either checked and confirmed serviceable or preferably replaced with the belt but this is something you cannot check without a complete strip down of the covers. If the garage has provided a years warranty I would expect the job has been done to a high standard so wouldn't be unduly concerned.
  12. OK now back in the UK. Looking through the manual it seems that there are 2 fuses for the front and rear seats. Both fuses are located in the under dash fuse box, one is a 30A shown as 30A PWR on the picture below. The other common fuse is located in the engine bay fuse box labelled FR S/HTR 15A bottom row on the lower picture. If you need a copy of the diagram PM your email and I will scan the manual pages for you.
  13. According to the specifications below 214ft/lbs http://www.skf.com/binary/79-66360/457377.pdf
  14. As long as the plate meets the required legislation I think the backplate size is a personal choice, I have the square Japanese plate on the rear and can have the smaller oblong plate on the front as it is an import but it has the standard UK spec one fitted.
  15. If you need one making I can do you one. http://www.evansweb.info/2009/11/23/ls400-ride-height-sensor-repair/
  16. Hi Tom, If you can give me a few days I will take a look in the electrical manual and see if I can suggest a common cause for your problem. BTW welcome to the LOC.
  17. Looking at auction prices today I bet you wish you still had that A40.
  18. Very nice, mine had 62,000 Kms when purchased in 2006 and cost me £3750.00 so prices are on the up for a low mileage prestine example.
  19. You have to remember that these cars are based on the Japanese climate which in general is a lot hotter than we have in the UK. Leather seats in Japan will certainly be hot if the car is left outside whereas cloth seats will not be to the same extent, JDM cars also have not sunroof again reducing the heat transfer to the vehicle interior.
  20. Probably a greek thing, you have to go and see it yourself....wave your arms around....drink a strong small coffee with the owner and if you win at Backgammon you get the car for €5000.00
  21. £100.00.....mmmm Lexus dealers do know how to charge and no I don't know the part number for the required special tool shown below.
