  1. Are they variable vane turbochargers on these?
  2. Possibly the pad retaining pins and anti rattle plate, this is available as a kit from Lexus part number 04948-0W010. Price around £30.00 a side.
  3. I took a look on the engine exploded diagram but it didn't show the location but the filter is a canister type mounted horizontally on the lower part of the block. Part numbers are 04152-31080 for the filter and 90301-79006 for the sealing ring/gasket expect to pay around £15.00 for both. You don't state your model year so the above is based on a 2009 UK specification model.
  4. These Mintex discs and pads are well respected for their quality, add in the fitting at a good independent a SS custom exhaust, 2 tyres and the oil leak I would estimate around £1200 all in. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-IS250-IS220D-IS200D-IS250C-BRAKE-DISC-CROSS-DRILLED-BRAKE-PAD-FRONT-REAR-/321839899102?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item4aef2721de:g:-Z8AAOSwDNdV13HC
  5. Sorry my Maserati experience only extends to the 4200 Cambriocorsa models and I have seen both good and bad the worst being at a dealers with 2 straight pipes coming out the rear instead of having the back boxes at over £1000.00 for the pair. Clutches last 15-20K and replacement is a £1500.00 job. Nice Ferrari V8 fitted though. All I can advise is make sure it has a full service history, take someone with you who knows about these cars, have a look on owners forums for known problems and get a full AA inspection done if you decide to go ahead with a purchase. Initially I thought a "dry sump" meant it had run out of oil. Also have some trousers made with special pockets....they will need to be very deep.
  6. Nice project. In the early 80s I had the same model and colour Cressida as a company car, the 1600 engine put a con rod through the block. The boss wasn't happy when he discovered the cause was a lack of oil and I was downgraded to a secondhand Toyota Starlet. Some years later I bought a Datsun 180B estate, the engine ran like a sewing machine when at this time the Ford Pinto engines needed new camshafts every 40,000 miles.
  7. No Ken Bruce on Saturdays......Popmaster maybe not. I phoned him today with the quotes and he said he was happy to meet up to make the payment so confident he will stump up, told him I was happy to make the payment then give him the invoice when he settles up. Also rang the paint guy who looked at it, he couldn't remember seeing it earlier this week and still waiting for the callback.....must have been on the cellulose fumes!
  8. These were fitted to the rims I bought recently and have good reviews. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Uniroyal/Rainsport-3.htm
  9. Having parked in a rather busy car park at the local B&M bargains store last weekend we were walking back towards the car when my other half mentioned that a white Mercedes was reversing towards my car. Unfortunately it managed to hit my nearside front bumper resulting in the damage shown in the picture. The driver did to his credit stop, get out and gave me his details saying he was very sorry and would pay for the repair. I got a couple of quotes and rang him today and he has agreed to pay the lower quote of £150.00 from my local bodyshop. I did question the fact that the Mercedes had reversing sensors and wing mirrors and still hit me, seems to be a common problem for him as he had recently had the rear nearside wheelarch and rear nearside door repaired after further separate incidents. At least it was done by a nice honest driver local who will pay up. Coincidentally it was a BMW that caused the last damage, German cars don't like us.
  10. Could be a good sign, IIRC the alarm system has a built in back up battery so even if you disconnect the main car battery the thing remains alive until the back up depletes. Given the time you left the battery disconnected it will have fully discharged and then rebooted to its correct mode so no more false alarms hopefully. Thanks for coming back with the update, all useful information.
  11. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I let one of my LS400s go for an engine donor project a while ago, it should be in a Vauxhall Viva hopefully by now! Feel free to post up your Cressida pictures with the V8 sat in there, you didn't go for the manual transmission conversion then? Not too familiar with the series III GS300 engine oil problem but if you find one around my area I would be happy to take an initial look for you and report back.
  12. Cyclists apparently have the same problem.
  13. Recheck all the passwork requirements very carefully as they normally have to have upper and lowercase letters, numbers and a symbol to be accepted plus a minimum amount of these. As for the iPad I know exactly how you feel and mine is one year old!
  14. Just passed another MOT so at least another year for the Lexus. It was mentioned but not listed on advisories that both the front Lower Ball Joint rubber covers are perished this is somewhat surprising as both these were replaced back in August 2010 with genuine Lexus parts which means they have only lasted 6 years and the originals ran for 12 which questions the quality of OEM Lexus parts. Unlike some german marques the emission figures are genuine with CO and HC readings at zero, pretty good for a 22 year old car.
  15. Is "agreed value" only available on some classic policies and not from mainstream insurers?
  16. Hello and welcome to the LOC. A 52 year plate, take it that it's a private one? Looks very nice. Where did you take the picture, looks like a country park, that drive around Loch Lomand used to scare me in a Transit van with water pouring all over the road and solid stone walls inches away.
  17. Hello and welcome to the LOC. No one else has so I will ask...did you buy the car privately or from a dealer?
  18. With the impending switch off of the FM band in the UK approaching I have noticed recently that reception is not as good as it was. I do wonder if this is being done to encourage people to switch to DAB? Anyway considering the above it may be a good idea to buy and fit a DAB receiver in your cars.
  19. There have been cases of the UCA hitting the inner wing if the car is extremely lowered, have you also checked the UCA and LBJ for excess play in the balljoints? Also make sure the upper strut cushion is fitted.
  20. It would appear to be UK specification, a JDM would be badged Toyota at that time the same as mine and JDM models don't have EGR which is clearly visible in the engine bay shot. The mats are OEM Lexus not Toyota see the difference in the picture. It may have been a one off demonstrator or customer specified air suspension when new, either way the first I have seen with this specification and Lexus badged.
  21. He is back on ebay with another LS400! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-LEXUS-LS400-MK4-V8-1-OWNER-115K-MILES-FSH-FULL-MOT-SUPERB-DRIVE-2300-/302099426179?hash=item4656876b83:g:dTQAAOSwCGVX-7d-
  22. I wondered when this was going to be discovered, not only are there locating pegs but there are also plastic inserts in the holes which need to be removed and then the holes need to be filled. The paint job cost alone makes it uneconomical to remove the badges.
  23. It is on air suspension, there are 3 switches on the centre console one of which is the ride height switch and the top hat front strut covers give it away. Car mats are OEM type.
