  1. The Shim Kit, Anti Squeal, Front part number 04945-22152 is available from Lexus but not price is listed. If Halfords have given you the quote you mention get them to do it for you as the kit alone will be more from Lexus. The picture below shows the kit components, they are normally stainless steel plates.

  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC. The most common area for brake pipe corrosion is the rear side to side pipes. If you could confirm which pipes you need I would be happy to give you the specifications, diagrams and Lexus part numbers.

  5. When I got my full licence back in 1977 it cost £5.00 and covered you until you were 70. This was until they had to introduce photo card licences when it cost you to change and also renew it.
  6. Not sure if this has been mentioned previously but you can now check your own driver's licence for expiry dates, entitlements and endorsements. Should you need to provide these details to a 3rd party (car hire companies, job applications) you can also request a code so they can also access them for a short period of time.   7. I'm having my front bumper repaired and then completely resprayed after a minor shunt for £150.00 including the 2 tone paint and a bit of rash on the rear for £60.00.
  8. You think side windows are a problem.....try one of these then add in a cold and dark start. Mind you the engines warm up pretty quickly.
  9. Hello, Don't worry about the timing belt, it has a chain so just make sure there is no excessive rattle from it on a cold start. Check the service history as oil changes are critical on chain driven engines. Listen for any unusual/knocks bangs from the suspension indicating worn bushes/joints. Check the brakes for seized callipers. Try every button and check every adjustment to make sure it works. You can check the MOT history with just the numberplate and make, useful for seeing if any advisories were issued and you can ensure the mileage matches the MOTs. Obtain a HPI or similar check to ensure not stolen, accident damaged or has outstanding finance on it. If you are not confident in making checks take someone who knows the cars. If you are buying from a dealer you have greater consumer rights than from a private sale. If you want to post up a link we would be happy to comment good or bad.
  10. Did the temperature gauge not rise before the incident or was it a sudden explosive coolant loss from the radiator? You also mentioned both the EML and Trac off lights came on before the engine cut out, how far did you continue to drive from this happening, the reason I ask is that had you stopped immediately and investigated the problem you may have perhaps prevented further secondary damage to the engine.

  14. Lexus do not list the bearing just the complete hub at around £300.00 so there would be no need to start pressing bearings out just bolt up the complate unit. If you can wait just over a week Amayama have them available for £135.00 plus shipping ( possibly plus UK VAT). I have assumed that it is a front bearing failure for the above information to be correct. By some strange coincidence the seller you mention on ebay has OEM Lexus ones (but no part numbers quoted) and OEM quality ones for significantly less claiming they are fitted with branded bearings.
  15. That's better than the usual senario of silently driving behind pedestrians walking on the roadway in supermarket car parks who are totally unaware of your stealth. On a more serious note there should be no electrical burning smells in the boot, sounds like something is loose or arcing ask Lexus to perform a visual check.
  16. Sorry for the delay in replying I missed your new post. The screen is a mesh in the bottom of the reservoir, if you remove the filler cap and shine a light in there you should be able to see it and determine its state. A rebuild kit is available for the pump and contains all the required seals and gaskets with the exception of the main bearing although this part rarely fails. Part number is 04446-30172 priced around £30.00. If you don't fancy doing the rebuild yourself perhaps you could buy the kit and get a local garage remove,repair and refit the pump. Before doing anything more have another go at bleeding the system, it can take some time to get all the air out, place some old glossy magazines under the tyres when doing it, takes less effort and saves scrubbing your tyres.
  17. I agree with Sharpor regarding professional diagnosis although it doesn't have to Lexus who perform it, perhaps you have a nearby specialist? Boost pressure sensors can fail, intercooler pipework can split, variable vane type turbocharger actuators can stick as well as other causes linked to fueling and exhaust gases.

There was also a topic some time ago where the owner had the same problem and even after Lexus had replaced the heating elements under warranty the fault was still present, from what I remember the cause was eventually traced to a faulty relay. Try as Peter suggests first and if the problem persists I will try and find the thread concerned.
  19. I watched a programme last night on BBC4 regarding the competition back in 1936 when two types of television systems were tested in London. The first was a mechanical spinning disc system and the second used electronic cameras. The latter system won and became the UK accepted standard which subsequently developed into colour TV in the late 60s. Unfortunately when it comes to DAB the spinning wheel was chosen!

  21. But you can raise the suspension on yours Chris to help with the getting in and out. Must admit I did also own an XM but the 2 litre, cost me £80.00 and a further £100 for the MOT and 2 spheres. Fully galvanised body so no rust. Ran fine for the 10 months I had it then part chopped it for £400.00 against a Rover 820 which is also becoming a classic.

  23. First question is have you refilled the reservoir to the correct level with the correct fluid and bled the air out of the system? Second one is which hose blew off, was it the return pipe to the reservoir? There is a filter screen in the reservoir that will cause excess pressure build up if clogged. There is also another filter on the rack which can have the same effect.
  24. These intermittent problems with high tech systems I think personally are as a result of the forced changeover from lead based solder to lead free replacements. The solder joints produced by lead free are poor in comparison to lead solder and hence an increased failure rate of equipment. The fact that leaded solder is still used in military applications and I understand aerospace says it all really.
