  1. Sounds a bit dangerous with a delay like that and "the way they are designed" makes me smile. Drive by wire...give me a cable any day. My money is on a software problem. If it happened on a Boeing or Airbus it would be straight back to the gate!
  2. Welcome to the world of Lexus and the LOC. Looks stunning in that colour but a pig to keep clean perhaps, keep an eye on the wheels not sure about the newer models but paint peeling and corrosion was an issue previously.
  3. Just noticed that, may be a good idea to contact them before ordering to confirm.
  4. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I think it is usually the gas struts that fail, the link below is a company well recommended by other members. http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/is
  5. The mirror glass should be bonded to a plastic backplate with all the wiring attached for the heating and dimming functions, the exploded diagram shows very little. New replacements from Lexus are around £220.00 ( even from Amayama Japan they are £150.00 plus shipping)
  6. JDM models had an option of leather or cloth seats, I can't see a sunroof either another JDM quirk.
  7. Yes all pre October 94 engines were non interference, the engine power output was upped on the series III 95-97 models so compression was increased and valve clearance decreased resulting in interference engines.
  8. It's a series II 1993-1994 Toyota Celsior with the range topping C-F pack so rear comfort controls, massaging rear seats and sat nav. Should also be on air suspension as it looks like there is the additional height control switch near the transmission selector. Engine should be Toyota badged with no EGR fitted and another give away is no external radio aerial.
  9. Have you read the ECU for stored fault codes?
  10. Cheers John I am enlightened Probably explains the cost! I saw something about lash adjuster and quite wrongly assumed it was something to do with the chain tensioner....ooops! So basically the only maintainance required is regular oil changes of the correct specification to keep them running sweet. For my error I will accept 20 lashes with a shoe lace and stick to my shims in the V8.
  11. More like the A series engine on these as the valve clearance appears to be mechanically adjustable going from the part description and the lack of a pressurised oil feed. I hope they don't wear out being priced at £70.00 each! Look at the part commencing 13750 on the exploded diagram described as "Adjuster- Valve Assy"
  12. Technology gone mad....a Headlight ECU! What happened to a switch and relay, another basic function made more complicated and it would appear more unreliable.
  13. I found this company that specialises in brake pipes, mag be worth giving them a call and they should be able to correctly identify which ones are needed for a Lexus http://www.automec.co.uk/collections/brass-fittings
  14. That sounds correct as the licence is valid for 10 years, the entitlement expiry should be his 70th Birthday.
  15. Are you near the coast? Seen some rough SC430s underneath, a member bought one and it was virtually unrepairable due to corrosion.
  16. The early LS400s did not have the engine cover fitted it only became standard on the 95 on models however it could be retrofitted to the earlier ones with an additional bracket and a couple of dome nuts. Unlike the modern cars it does only cover the engine top and not the whole engine Bay Area so still allowing good access for level checking.
  17. You need to pull the ECU fuse to reset the system or the code would remain stored.
  18. Not done it myself but going by other Lexus models there should be enough loom length to allow it to be pulled forwards and out.
  19. This job is going to cost me £60.00 on my LS400 at my local body shop. I would find a decent smart repairer locally unless you fancy a drive to Derbyshire.
  20. Just be very careful removing the mirror glass, it pulls off from 2 lugs either side at the bottom and then lifts off 2 hooks at the top. A cloth slid behind at the bottom and coming out the sides spreads the load when pulling the bottoms lugs out.
  21. Sorry shouldn't laugh but when it fell off and you could still hear the car roaring off into the distance it was funny. Well done for locating it. The second clip contains some swearing which may offend some members, if you are likely to be please mute the sound.
