  1. Just had the front and rear bumpers repaired on my LS in 2 tone paint, rear cost me £70.00 front £150.00 paid by the third party. Front picture is post repair and rear pre repair. Wouldn't have thought yours would be more than £450.00 even in Hampshire where beer is around £5.00 a pint
  2. O2 sensors are only accurate when they are hot and once the engine has fully warmed up the heat from the exhaust gasses is sufficient but obviously this is not the case on a cold engine. To ensure the sensor begins to operate as soon as possible they contain a engine ECU controlled heater element which ensures a fast warm up which is switched off when the engine has warmed up and the exhaust gas temperature provides and maintains the heat. A common failure on the sensor is due to this heater element failing which in turn flags up a heater related fault code.
  3. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Nice choice of model and colour, looks very clean.
  4. The IS engine is a straight six cylinder so only one O2 sensor is used, hence bank 2 not being used. You also say the sensor is working well....how have you confirmed this?..the only way to confirm switching is to use an oscilloscope to check the sensor output waveform for correct amplitude, duty cycle and frequency. also confirm the heater supply is present. If you have access to real time diagnostics you should be able to see the fuel trim figures. Main causes of failed cats are an over rich fuel mixture allowing unburnt fuel to enter the cat and a misfire which will do the same. Is the ignition servicing up to date with air filter and spark plugs? Coil packs often fail on this engine so check all six are functioning correctly but they normally flag up a code if failure is detected. Nearly forgot....welcome to the LOC.
  5. Looks like it is water cooled and mounted on the engine block.
  6. My 1999 LS is doing the same with no tilt or telescope, ECU power supplies all check out so looks like another stripdown.
  7. A bit of information here on a flying LS400 engine, unfortunately the pictures have been removed. http://www.avcom.co.za/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=68623 A bit more reading here. https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&channel=ipad_bm&biw=1024&bih=672&ei=UkI8WPuFEIfCgAb5mZQg&q=faa+toyota+engine+approval&oq=faa+toyota+engine+approval&gs_l=mobile-gws-serp.3...21051.34686.0.35055.45.45.0.1.1.0.538.5952.15j27j1j5-2.45.0....0...1c.1.64.mobile-gws-serp..20.16.2072...0j41j0i67k1j0i10k1j30i10k1j33i21k1j33i22i29i30k1.VvqJT8Vuy Time to get that rubber dingi out and some angle iron me thinks.
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC. It is certainly a one off I think, not sure what I think but looks like a top class job.
  9. Hello Thomas and welcome to the LOC. Car looks very nice, what jobs need doing on it?
  10. The main difference as I mentioned is Lexus will replace the complete hub ( "transmission gone Sir, that will be £7000.00 to replace") where as an indie will probably just replace the bearing in the original hub. Quality Japanese bearings are available and anyone with a suitable press can do the job at a fraction of the cost of a new hub. I have done both my idler and tensioner bearings on my LS using basic hand tools for around £15.00 for both bearings with zero "spanner" cost or I could have bought new pulleys for around £100.00. Probably looking £60.00 for the bearing and seals and a couple of hours labour at your indie's rate.
  11. Lexus will only replace the complete hub costing around £400.00 plus a couple of hours labour....my guess is £650-700 including the wash and vacuum.
  12. Assuming front callipers I can only see one part number for the bush fitted to the top slide pin part number 47769-50010. Part numbers for the top and bottom pins are different Top 47715-22070 Bottom 47715-52190
  13. Air suspension on Lexus cars is nothing new, the import model I had was on air and a 1994 model. According to the service records during it's lifetime it had the 2 rear struts replaced with new OEM replacements but not at the same time. All the height sensors and pump were original and the suspension worked fine Other manufacturers had hydraulic systems like Citroen and even BL had the likes of Hydrogas. Given the above my thoughts turn to build quality of the parts fitted to newer models, if an air suspension components can last 22 years why do we now have problems with them failing in half this time or less in some cases. Another consideration is the present state of the roads... potholes will break conventional springs so it must be assumed that air suspension units are also subjected to the same abuse possibly resulting in premature failure. As for the foray into diesel engines I believe this was purely a commercial attempt by Lexus to meet the market demands at the time when diesel was made out to be the future of combustion engines.

  15. It could be a changeover model, mine is an import and according to specification should have a passenger airbag but doesn't. I did suspect it may be an import but according to the checks carried out it isn't. Did you also realise your postcode comes up on the Autotrader link giving away your personal location, I tend to put in a public building like Buckingham Palace for the postcode.
  16. Just having a look on what's on offer on Fleabay. This one made me smile when described as having an "immaculate interior" and then you look at the pictures of the front footwell and rear footwell. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-Ls400-Long-MOT-/322329086040?hash=item4b0c4f8858:g:mG0AAOSwNRdYAVy4 At the other end of the scale this one looks a lot better. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS400-Rare-DHP-Retro-JDM-Classic-1UZ-FE-/182360611172?hash=item2a758a1964:g:0DEAAOSwux5YMfzo
  17. Hello Jeff and welcome to the LOC. You missed out reliability another good reason to buy a Lexus, just got to get used to the silent running mode of the hybrid, wait until you get behind shoppers walking in a supermarket car park totally unaware that you are creeping up behind them.
  18. Here's my theory. Assuming the transmission has an intercooler radiator ( engine coolant radiator with an inbuilt transmission cooler) maybe the transmission fluid flow is greater and gets hotter quicker using the paddle shift. This would heat up the engine coolant quicker resulting in a faster heater operation. There again perhaps the extra physical effort in using the paddle shift makes you feel warmer
  19. You need to buy the CT200h model fitted with Duracell batteries....they last up to 10 times longer than "ordinary" hybrid batteries
  20. Give them a good overnight soak with WD40, you can also buy a special ring spanner with a gap in it to slip over the pipe onto the union. May also be worth replacing the flexible hoses with braided while you're in there.
  21. A common option in a hot Japanese climate, cool in summer and warm in winter. No sunroof again due to climate. Also on air suspension so may be the range topping C-F package but expensive if things go wrong!
