Hello and welcome to the LOC. Great posts on your route to Lexus ownership. I drove a Honda Jazz automatic around in Cyprus for 3 weeks last December, did the job, only cost me €27.00 to refill the tank but not a Lexus

It may be worth finding a local hydraulic pipe company locally and see if they can repair the pipe with new hose and unions. example http://www.mendahose.co.uk/ Another common fail is the transmission cooler pipe located at the front of the car so subjected to corrosion. On other models successfully repaired with a length of 10mm copper pipe suitably bent to shape.

No head cannot be skimmed, if you take a look at the link below you will see a post from Ormi who is also a member on here and a qualified Toyota technician confirming this. http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/126153-22-d4d-t3x-head-gasket-dilemma/

Difference is nearly £100.00 as one is plus VAT and the other including. £140.00 still seems excessive for the repair, does this include them removing and refitting the mirror and the associated risk of breaking the glass? You may also find the broken piece inside the housing as I would assume it was pushed through which would make the repair easier.

Did you know about temporary shift range?
steve2006 replied to Flytvr's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Pre-select transmissions are nothing new, they have been used on rear engined buses for 40 odd years. For those members concerned with the safe operation of this newly discovered electronic wizardry there is off road training help available. -
It seems that euro spec models have been fitted with both types but USA spec with only one (the pressure cap version 16400-50260) The exploded diagram shows both types for RHD models and there are 2 different part numbers Up to 06/2001 16400-50270. Post 06/2001 16400-50271. Are there no places left in the UK that actually repair or rebuild radiators any more as all the component parts seems to be freely available to do so.

Hello and welcome to the LOC. Are you saying the key blade isn't working in the door lock, not sure if the IS has a lock in the passenger door as well and if so have you tried this, does it open the boot lock? I think that in order to programme a new key you need the original master key to enable the clone, also if the key blade is wrong on the damaged key you will have problems. If you have break down cover I would see if they could come out and open the car for you or if not see if a local auto locksmith can help gain entry and perhaps reprogrammed and cut your replacement key.

This instant cancellation of cover after an accident is not new and it is slowly creeping in to policy "Terms and Conditions" across the board and of course another legal scam so read the small print before taking out any new policy. In this particular case you will end up with around £600-800 minus your policy excess, minus the increased cost of a new yearly insurance policy. Personally I would obtain the salvage ( btw what category write off is it?) which should be 10% of the write off value and then get it repaired with secondhand parts using a decent local body shop. I got my salvage returned for free having dealt directly with the 3rd party insurers.

Hello and welcome back to the LOC. Have you checked the 120A alternator fuse link located within the engine bay fuse box, this is not the normal plug in type blade fuse but a screw terminal device with a clear plastic cover on top. Also check the fuses labelled ALT-S (7.5A), ECU-IG (10A) and GAUGE (10A) as all these are associated with the charging system. If you would like a copy of the OEM manual diagram section send me a PM.

Recall for airbag
steve2006 replied to ahmedali44's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
Are there no time constraints on these recalls particularly if there are safety issues? Personally I think the delays stem from Toyota Japan who limit the amount of Lexus dealers throughout the world to a point where there are insufficient service ramps and qualified technicians to do these jobs within a reasonable time. -
LS 400 Aerial
steve2006 replied to shanra's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Surprised it cannot be fixed as it is generally just the mast drive that fails. Perhaps an idea to obtain a worker from a breaker or you will lose some of the functionality of the original plus the added problems of adapting the wiring to suit an aftermarket unit. -
I don't use the automatic headlight function on my 22 year old LS400 as the last thing I need is to be on a multi lane road enter a tunnel and then have my headlights come on automatically. The driver in lane one then assumes I have flashed him out and pulls out in front of me. Lets be honest it takes no effort to pull and push the stalk manually thereby maintaining full and safe control of your vehicle rather than rely on what are basically gimmicks.

Does anyone tow a caravan with an is220d?
steve2006 replied to J m's topic in Modifications & Tuning
I found this http://www.caravantalk.co.uk/community/topic/33363-anybody-towing-with-a-lexus-is220d/ A company called PF Jones does the towbars. https://www.pfjones.co.uk/tow-bars/tow-bars-for-lexus/lexus-is-220-towbars.html -

Hello and welcome to the LOC To quote from the MOT manual "The hazard warning light "tell tale" may be a separate light or same as the indicator "tell tale" However it must be a flashing light" In other words the flashing indicator lights ( both sides normally flash on hazard) are acceptable and there is no requirement to have an additional flashing light actually on the switch itself. There is also no mention or therefore a requirement for the hazard warning switch to be illuminated when the exterior vehicle lights are switched on. Section 1.4 of the link below https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/518634/mot-inspection-manual-for-class-3-4-5-and-7-vehicles.pdf If your vehicle has been failed on these points appeal.

I cannot find the exact same colours as you mention but the diagram below was easily found on a google search and shows the plug pinout numbers which should help.

I remember years ago some petrol stations (Mobil for sure) had commercial oil extractor pumps for DIY use, I never used one so unsure if you had to buy the replacement oil from the petrol station (expensive) or you could bring your own but the machine stored your old oil meaning no disposal problems. As previously mentioned you still have to generally get under the car to replace the oil filter so perhaps conventional methods are better seeing as you still need to do this if using an extractor plus you can check for any leaks from the sump area at the same time.
