  1. The process involved is long, requires very accurate measurements in microns and is expensive, provided the engine doesn't sound like a mark 3 Ford Escort I wouldn't be worried just keep on top of oil changes with decent quality being used.
  2. Hello and welcome to the LOC. As you mention solenoids by their nature can buzz when active due to the coil being energised, it may be an idea to make sure it is fully pulled in and there isn't something connected to it that is preventing this like a sticky actuator arm.
  3. The 95-97 LS400 uses the Aisin A340 4 speed transmission, the series IV uses the Aisin A650 5 speed transmission, the filter you have is therefore likely to be unsuitable for a 95 model year. http://blog.lexus.co.uk/lexus-gearbox-transmissions/
  4. If you can open the car with your other key there is a way to open the boot electrically, let me know if you get the doors open and I will provide full details on how to open the boot.
  5. I would be looking to remove the passenger side kick panel below the dash normally held by a few screws and clips then have a good look up there with a torch to see if it can be accessed from there. Or ...ash tray, top heater vents and radio out and go in from there?
  6. My money is still on the VSV being the culprit, never heard of a worn wheel bearing cause an ABS sensor fault.
  7. I stand corrected, I wasn't aware of the LX450, is this a V8 engine?
  8. The IS220d and 200d were the only diesel Lexus models ever produced and ceased production many years ago never to return. It appears to be a failed exercise into competing with the likes of the german manufacturers.
  9. Easy to spot, the series I and II (1989-October 1994) models have a gear selector that only moves forwards and backwards in a straight line, the series III and IV models have the "gated" shift lever that has a zig zag pattern coming down from park. Series I and II style so non interference engines, engine number begins with UCF10 or UCF-11 Series III and IV style so interference engines, engine number will begin with UCF-20 or 21, the series IV has the VVTI engine.
  10. All UCF-10 engines were non interference up to October 1994, after which the series III onwards were interference.
  11. Plenty of great information and friendly members as you will be aware on here, thank you for supporting the club by upgrading to gold. Be sure to make use of the gold membership benefits.
  12. I was once beaten off the line at traffic lights by an SC430 but being another Lexus I didn't mind
  13. They should be a standard Lexus tool, I have one around from an LS400 if of any use to you.
  14. I was thinking the exact same thing, until I saw the exploded diagram I wasn't sure they had them on this model or 4 piston callipers, my money is on bone dry slider pins!
  15. Hello and welcome to the LOC. If you find a few which interest you feel free to post up the links for members comments good or bad, if you are planning on spending 7k it may be worth getting an inspection done before committing unless the owner is happy to get a Lexus condition report done before purchase. A comprehensive service history is a must particularly the Hybrid Health Check.
  16. I needed an UCA a few years ago, Lexus RRP was nearly £500.00, the same part from Nippon was £120.00 was genuine in original factory wrapping so yes I can vouch for them.
  17. Many years ago (20 plus) I was involved in a similar accident local to me when I was on a roundabout in the left lane intending to take the 2nd exit i.e.straight on. A HGV driver in the outer lane made the same approach but then decided to take the first exit onto the M1. After the initial collision I was then forced to take the slip road not the M1 or be crushed by the trailer, both stopped on the slip road hard shoulder, called the police and details were taken. The insurance tried a 50/50 blame on me but I told them where to go, eventually my excess was recovered from the other party. Stick to your guns and do not admit any liability for this one.
  18. There have been issues in the past with code reads on Lexus vehicles, I know some will connect and pretty sure another member will have the information as to which ones. When was the last time the plugs were changed?
  19. Where does it mention the TEMS set up, I can't find anything mentioned about it. TEMS also doesn't mean the car is on air suspension, mine has it and is on coilovers. At £130.00 plus £20.00 shipping for a well worn driver's seat (certainly not immaculate) I wish them luck selling it.
  20. Just watched an advertisement for Audi promoting their "Virtual Dashboard" where it appears completely black until the ignition is turned on and then the clocks appear to float. Uncanningly similar to the first LS400 model that appeared in 1989.... Vorsprung durch years behind springs to mind.
  21. Hello and welcome to the LOC
  22. Do these cars "adapt" to the driving style of the driver? My theory suggests that the previous owner may have driven the car let's say in a sporty fashion, the ECU then adopts this mode. You as a new owner drive in a more sedate fashion so the car needs time to adjust, you could always have the engine ECU reset to default mode and then see if the MPG improves based on your driving style. Another thing to have checked is if the engine is reaching its fully warmed up state.
