  1. If you remove the oil filler cap with the engine running is there excessive blow back from the filler hole? Also what mileage do you have on the car?
  2. Are there no Engine Management warning lights on, reading the codes would be a good first move. The symptoms would describe a sticking EGR valve (loss of power and plumes of grey smoke) and with what you mention it would seem the service regime is a little vague given the internal state of the engineand so would be looking at an immediate oil and filter change. Also check the 2 breather pipes they can clog up or collapse.
  3. Most if not all of the Aisin transmissions fitted to Lexus vehicles will not shift into higher gears until the transmission fluid has reached normal operating temperature, there is even a transmission coolant temperature sensor fitted to ensure this happens. The reason is to avoid damage to the transmission.
  4. I’ll have to check to be sure but I think snow mode makes the car pull off in 2nd gear not first?
  5. Fortunately I only have to use mine occasionally so it will be kept in the garage until it clears away but if yours is a daily driver it may be worth getting some winter tyres on it but the best thing to do is avoid driving if at all possible.
  6. I needed to get into my garage and being a bit tight decided to back the LS out to give me more space, even with just a little snow and a cold engine tick over it still wanted to go sideways back into the garage.
  7. Nice result, lovely looking car.
  8. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I only joined the LOC after I bought my imported LS400..... fortunately I got a good one to start with and spend more time on here giving advice than needing it but still learn something new every day..
  9. Given that my JDM LS400 is now 23 years old and therefore "old hat" technology compared with today's it has one useful function on the remote door opening....a physical on-off switch so you can disable the remote key fob operation so even if thieves have the required scanning technology, find the correct code the car will remain locked as the system is switched off. There must be a reason why they provided this function, perhaps the Lexus crystal ball revealed all about the future.
  10. I have the Ignition Cylinder Lock set with transmitter housing and cut key listed at around £650.00, personally I would be looking for a breaker on Ebay for the lock and key, buy 2 new shear bolts then swop the electronic gizmos in the keys over. Any half decent independent garage should be able to do the work in a couple of hours. The rest of the work can wait a while if you have a decent length MOT left and you can still see clearly enough out of the delaminates windows (or find a couple of secondhand ones in good condition).
  11. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I'll move your post to the newly formed ISF forum where responses will flow in at a rate nearly as fast as the car itself.
  12. "Image coming soon" They need to get a move on for tomorrow, be nice to see some pictures of it.
  13. It would be interesting to see the service history on this car particularly oil and filter changes, cam chain wear and stretch is commonly due to a poor service regime and/or incorrect oil use. Another expense is a worn chain will also damage the spockets so more expense.
  14. Having done this job myself I can personally vouch it is an absolute nightmare taking around 8 hours of back breaking effort. The problem is the solenoid and the contacts wearing out giving intermittent starting. The pictures show the components involved and the wear due to electrical arcing.
  15. The complete light is available as a part (81730-53020) for a 2010 model driver's side. Priced around £70.00
  16. It sounds like this is easier to programme, a Flight Management Computer.
  17. A very good point, every 36,000 miles or 3 years is a good guide. I have noticed that the colour of new brake fluid is almost clear and after a period of time it has a yellow tinge possibly caused by absorbing moisture which reduces it's boiling point and it's efficiency.
  18. There is a Lexus special tool for removing the power steering fluid from the reservoir.....it's called a "Turkey Baster" currently on sale at Matalan for £2.00 including VAT and LOC Gold member discount, other outlets are available. https://www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2663103_c000/turkey-baster-28cm-multi?gclid=CjwKCAiA9f7QBRBpEiwApLGUigYlwTeQpVrO5qLlpORfPXw1_xmiK02pmEARgGQPl7hko4zps4AzARoCNcQQAvD_BwE Stick it in the reservoir, squeeze the bulb to suck up the fluid until you cannot get any more out then top up with fresh fluid (Dextron ATF I believe). Repeat over a couple of weeks until fluid is clean and the same colour as it comes out of the bottle.
  19. If you sit in the car and then lock the doors with the key fob do they all lock? From your description the auto lock system is trying to lock all the doors at 20 MPH but if one of the doors fails to lock the system cycles 4 times before leaving the doors unlocked....the usual cause is a faulty actuator motor in the door which fails to lock, in your case probably the driver's door.
  20. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Rarely do the parking brake shoes need replacing, generally a good clean, roughing up and adjustment restores the efficiency but if they do need replacing the part number is 46530-50020.
  21. New price alert, the price has gone up again and now the discount has reduced to 7%, I always thought there were consumer laws that meant a product had to be on sale at a particular price for a certain period of time before they could claim a "was" price and "now" price, this place operates like the Footsie top 100 share prices.
