  1. You have legal rights having purchased the car from a trader.
  2. Nice to see a UK independent business producing a quality replacement.
  3. If it hasn’t happened since I wouldn’t worry, it could have been the cold weather causing a bush to tighten up a little more than normal or a suspension spring twisting, like I said if the car still drives fine and is level all around don’t worry unduly.
  4. They are only around £7.00 each from Lexus so little point in shopping around.
  5. I think Mike (Bluesman) replaced the ones on his car and may therefore have a source. Another component worth changing and often missed are the Oil Control Valve Filters priced around a fiver each 15678-46010.
  6. It’s not a pleasant job to do, cheap for the repair parts but back breaking in all other respects.
  7. So what would they have done if the tyres were already off and you simply took the rims in to have the new tyres fitted?
  8. Loss of power and plumes of white smoke sounds like the EGR valve is sticking, has this been cleaned recently as it is a straightforward DIY job?
  9. For the disc retaining screws I find that one of those cheap, hit it on the end with a hammer type, of impact screwdrivers normal gets them to move provided you select the best fitting bit and ensure you have selected the correct direction of the tool. The calliper carrier bolts are very tight but having an air powered impact gun makes the job a lot easier, I bought mine from Aldi I think complete with a good selection of impact sockets for around £25.00.
  10. Mine’s been stuck at the airport hotel for a fortnight but flying back later today so will be able to blow the cobwebs out of the old V8 on the way home.
  11. I offered mine but being slightly modified and Toyota badged not heard back, I remember a few years ago there was an immaculate 1992 Black LS400 used by Lexus for another launch, pretty sure it was owned by an LOC member too. It was and here it is
  12. It would appear the seller has missed a zero off the asking price, had it been a buy it now I would have clicked to buy at £1050.00 and had some fun.
  13. Sounds like a trip to the dealer, there is nothing related in the “Customisation” options,do you still have warranty on the car?
  14. Hello Jay and welcome to the LOC. As Rayaans has mentioned all the information regarding servicing is available on the following link, included in the service is a written hybrid health check. Regarding the hybrid battery these are generally reliable but should a problem occur there are now companies who will rebuild them at a fraction of the cost of a new replacement. Just ensure the car has a full service history and check the previous MOT history on the government website. https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/ Good luck with your search.
  15. Just check the paint code....if it is U239 Plutonium Dark Blue avoid it.
  16. It’s not easy with a DIY import, lots of paperwork obviously including english translation of Japanese documents like the deresgistration certificate. You also have to insure the car using just the chassis number and then take it for the MOT (not sure about type approval as I think this has changed from the old system). The cost of UK registration with the DVSA and of course new number plates. I bought mine with all this done, the price paid at £3750.00 was probably double the initial sale price in Japan but having now owned it for 11 years it was still a bargain and hopefully still has yet more years of use in it. Another thing to be wary of with JDM imports is irradiated and previously flooded vehicles from the Tsunami hit regions.
  17. Agreed, you leave a car outside in damp conditions and the discs go rusty OK the rust is removed as soon as the brakes are applied but this reduces disc thickness eventually requiring replacement, being cosseted in Japan and garage kept since in the UK mine is still on the original discs all round with virtually no wear lip. As regards service history I will post up my Japanese ones when I return home next year, certainly make good reading.
  18. There are still plenty of good examples out there to buy but now mainly in Japan but these cars are generally well maintained ( my own car was a Japanese company director’s car) and you have to pay for transportation and UK registration but these can still be good bargains. Have a look at the listings on the link below bearing in mind we are talking kilometers not miles, especially the 50,000 mile equivalent 1992 model at $1700.00 (remember the similar one on ebay for £7500.00!) https://www.tradecarview.com/used_car/toyota/celsior/
  19. A Japanese Toyota badged Celsior (Lexus LS430). The Lexus brand was only used in Japan since 2006.
  20. The brand name “Lexus” was not used in Japan until quite recently and all models were Toyota badged “Celsior” including the LS430 models. Air suspension was also an option I believe on all Celsiors from launch in 1989, the 1994 Celsior I had until recently was on air suspension and even had Sat Nav. Additionally the Celsior models had 4 levels of specification A,B,C and C-F the latter being the top model with reclining and massage rear seats and rear entertainment console including a Walkman cassette player in the rear armrest.
  21. I think you can have a “smoke test” done at a garage, this device produces smoke that is then pumped through the engine intake, any induction leaks are then easily spotted if the smoke comes out in that area. Another method would be live data monitoring using the correct diagnostic equipment.
  22. Mine is a 1994 model now at around 90,000 miles and during my owner ship since 2006 ( the initial 12 being in Japan) I have replaced one front UCA damaged by a UK pot hole, both front lower ball joints and recently both rear springs after the passenger side broke whilst stood in a hotel car park. I have never had an advisory for any other suspension component. Perhaps mine is a little biased in that it spent its early life in a salt free kinder climate and on average covers less than 3000 miles a year but shows the suspension can last a long time if driven gently and road conditions are taken into account. Mine also receives a yearly underbody and wheel arch wash after every winter and is kept garaged but not heated. I have also seen some right nails even newer models so each one needs to be fully accessed before a potential purchase is made, I always remember a 2000 year Celsior being offered by a dealer, not only was it absolutely filthy inside with moss growing on the roof lines but you could not see the air suspension components due to the layer of mud in the arches. When questioned the dealer was selling it for a golfing mate of his, I asked if he used it as a buggy on the course to which he replied “Tou obviously know more about cars than I do” As I walked away I gave a wry smile and said...Yes I probably do and good luck selling it because it won’t be me doing so.
