  1. That’s how I am also looking at it John, I think the only way a dealer can get out of the legal implications is to sell the car as scrap and even that could now be difficult as all scrap cars are now required to go to a registered recycle centre.
  2. Didn’t think there was such a thing as a “Sold as seen” vehicle from a motor dealer due to consumer rights and you basically have a 6 month window from purchase should any problems occur. https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights Just double check everything works, every switch, button and function. Get them to do a Hybrid Health Check if not already done. If you are concerned about the lack of warranty use some of the money you save to buy one later. Finally check the new MOT for advisories and is there a FLSH?
  3. Apparently reversing lights are now checked as part of the test and brake fluid must be clear in the reservoir.
  4. Have a read from our USA cousins. https://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/66946-ls400-how-to-fix-the-cigarette-lighter/

    Mk4 ls400

6K with scabby alloy wheels and 3 months MOT on the ticket, maybe immaculate is only in the eyes of the dealer!
  6. Spotted series IV green LS400 in the Aldi car park in Ashbourne, Derbys last week. Private plate beginning A11. Are you one of us?
  7. There are 2 varients on the LS430 front exhaust system, type A has a catalytic converter fitted and type B a normal exhaust box which would suggest a missing 3rd cat would not cause any MOT problems if constructing a replacement.
  8. I also bought a new set of NGK iridium plugs but struggled to get the plug leads off even though the leads and plugs were replaced around six years ago and I put the dielectric grease on the plug caps. With them being deep in the cylinder head I was worried about breaking the leads or damaging them with excess tugging so job abandoned for now. Tutorial below covers plugs and leads but just skip the lead bits. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ignition/sparkplugs.html
  9. Bembo and Mintex seem popular for aftermarket but don’t dismiss OEM parts as these are often sold by Lexus dealers at a good discount. Lexus Birmingham usually have a selection on ebay or give them a ring and haggle.
  10. It looks very well attached so it should Klingon, not my personal taste but must be a phaser you’re going through.
  11. Give me a few minutes to work it out but logically captain I can see no reason for it not to be achievable.
  12. Based on a 2016 model year IS200T the ball joint is not available as a separate item and is integrated into the UCA, part number is 48630-59065, price is about right I’m afraid for Lexus UK.
  13. Oops so it is, got so used to belts I forget.
  14. I have mentioned this quite a few times but there are 2 micro filters, one on each bank which supply the oil to the VVTI system. If these filters get partially blocked oil flow to the VVTI system will be reduced possibly giving problems like you have. The filters are around $6.00 US each from dealers and fairly easy to replace on a DIY basis part number for both is 15678-46020 based on a LHD US specification model.
  15. I like this post, proper diagnostics carried out first to point you in the right direction then good old fashioned fault finding techniques with a multimeter to pin point the problem and wire wobbling to confirm the diagnosis. Good to see these days 🙂 Can you imagine the Lexus dealership method....”Multiple transmission faults...needs a new transmission....sit down for the cost Sir”
  16. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Looks very nice and very low mileage, just keep up with the services and it will be fine, cam belt should have been done by now?
  17. After multiple potholes appeared on my estate roads I emailed the local authority giving details of where they were located and included a map. I told them they had a duty of care to ensure the roads were maintained in a safe condition and gave them notice that if repairs were not carried out within a reasonable time ( I stated 2 weeks) I would hold them totally liable for any damage to my vehicle as a result of these potholes. They were all repaired within a week!
  18. As Maurice says the glass is clipped onto the back frame at the bottom and hooked on the top mounts, a yellow duster fed behind the bottom section coming out the sides usually releases the bottom clips with a sharp tug then lift the bottom of the mirror and pull out and up to release the top hooks. If however the replacement mirror has been stuck directly to the frame behind it may be wise to heat the mirror with a hair dryer for a short while to soften the adhesive to minimise damage.
  19. I used this website to make mine, printed on photo paper and then laminated. http://www.galaxygraphics.co.uk/flash/japanese_plate.php
  20. Has your mechanic backed the adjuster off? There should be a rubber bung on the hub facing part of the disc, removing this will allow access to the shoe adjusting mechanism which is located at the 6 o’clock position behind the drum. It is a cog wheel which once located can be flicked around to back off the shoes with a screwdriver through the hole where the bung was. In other words turn the drum until the bung is at the six o’clock position, remove the bung, shine a torch through the whole to locate the cog and flick the adjuster cog to loosen off the shoes from the drum, if the drum tightens up flick the adjuster the other way.
  21. Most parts are the same apart from specific Toyota branded items like the badges and grille, if you need any specific parts send me a PM and I can give you the part numbers and rough cost.
  22. The brake pipes running along the back axle are a common corrosion failure on MOTs, or a flexihose.
  23. Is this any good, apparently the only Lexus manual Haynes do, may also be available as a paid for download. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Toyota-Highlander-RX-330-Automotive-Repair/dp/1563928604
