I am Looking to buy a older Lexus any recommendations
steve2006 replied to Kalpesh's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Funnily enough I still remember the launch evening at Lexus Derby for the GS450h when one of the invitees suggested they try to fit the Lexus branded golf trolley and clubs in the boot. That was a viral YouTube moment missed 😀 -
Hi Matt and welcome to the LOC. Amayama are listing at just under £200.00 shipped other than that it’s finding a good used one from a write off and I think they are model specific.

Common problem read the link below regarding the earth connections. Please make sure you disconnect the battery and wait at least 10 minutes when disconnecting or reconnecting any yellow airbag plugs! -
Hi Jayne and welcome to the LOC. If you need any help just ask, there is a dedicated forum section for Lexus cars for sale. When you have the car’s details we can sort this for you so don’t fret 😀

Thumping noise from boot area
steve2006 replied to chrisphet's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
You need a garage that has a ramp with “shuffle plates” the car is driven on and the plates shake the car while all the suspension components are checked for play. In your case the noise in the boot should also show up. -
Just remembered it’s Saturday, Dan’s not in the office today 😀

Sell it, or breaking and scrap it? - IS200 Sport
steve2006 replied to killakrust's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Hi Justin and welcome to the LOC. Given the age of the car, the rust issues, the damage and obsolete parts I think you are down to scrapping or breaking. If you have the space, time and patience break it then get the shell collected or get it collected complete for scrap. As cars age the demand for spare parts tends to decrease as there are fewer cars requiring parts, wheels normally go first if in good condition with legal tyres but if that’s all you sell you now have a shell on bricks making it more difficult to remove. If someone wants the engine are you happy to remove it for them not to turn up? -
Buying an imported Lexus RX 270 In the UK?
steve2006 replied to ColSeven's topic in Lexus General Maintenance
Hi Col and welcome to the LOC. Starting with the easier answers yes the engine is a 4 cylinder in line and does have a timing chain along with a double overhead cam. Engine type is 1ARFE. There are very few if any in the UK as these were produced mainly for the Russian and Chinese market. Pricing is difficult taking into account all the possible variables but looking on Japanese auction sites normally gives a good indication. Buying at a Japanese auction bear in mind you won’t actually see the car until it arrives at the UK port but they are usually very honest with their descriptions. It is usually easier to get an agent to handle everything unless you fancy filling in a mountain of paperwork. Most imports are subject to customs duty at 5% and then VAT on the total cost of the vehicle including shipping plus registration, MOT and insurance. Regarding insurance you will have to find a specialist as mainstream companies won’t touch them and it may be an idea to get some quotes before committing any further. I own a JDM import (my second) but being a Toyota Celsior it is 95% the same as. Lexus LS430 so most parts are freely available. In your case I would imagine again that most parts will be the same as a UK spec RX of the same year and any non standard parts can generally be obtain from Amayama.com The cost of importing a JDM car has significantly increased over the last few years now approaching the point where it is becoming unviable so think carefully if a UK spec option would be better. Have a read of the link below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_RX- 1 reply

Excellent result finally, regarding the reason(s) for dropping the claim could you not obtain this information under the Freedom of Information Act? I understood that if any company holds personal information about you then you are entitled to see such information on request?

Caliper problem?
steve2006 replied to Masiv44's topic in RX 300 / RX 350h / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h+ / RX 500h Club
You may find this hard to believe but unless specifically requested the slide pins are generally not removed and re-greased during a dealer brake service. This often results in the Lexus seized calliper problem which I strongly suspect is the cause here. The only specific parts of a brake calliper alone that can seize are the pistons and the pad slides as these are the only moving parts in it, the only other moving parts are the slide pins…. the usual cause. I have never heard of any 4 pot callipers seizing up the reason probably being that these do not have slide pins. Do you have any other symptoms like juddering brakes or pulling to one side? -
The picture should help, the wiper arms have a U shaped fitting at the ends so if you push the blade in the direction of the arrow this will disengage the arm from the blade. Then lift the arm up slightly to fully disengage. As I have already mentioned put a towel between the blade and windscreen, if you let go of the spring loaded arm it could break the screen. Once detached lower the arm slowly onto the towel.

Engine won't start
steve2006 replied to Mike Carter's topic in Lexus RC Owners Club / RC 200t / RC 300h Club
Hi Mike and welcome to the LOC. Phil’s logic with the auxiliary battery is spot on, there have been multiple reported cases with Lexus vehicles having weird electrical problems when the battery is failing and “the dash lit up like a Christmas tree” comment. I don’t understand what is going off with the dealer diagnosis, “engine” or “transmission” is extremely vague. Do you know what checks they have performed e.g. basic battery tests, hybrid battery levels and a full diagnostic code read. Admittedly diagnosis of some faults is difficult but with the correct equipment, multimeter, oscilloscope, Techstream, experience and a sharp pair of eyes certainly possible and fully expected from a dealer. I would by now be looking for immediate answers and escalation. -
Mileage looks good and genuine, MOT history also good, looks like one owner neglected tyres in 2017 but no advisory repeats which indicates repairs were carried out. Just put the reg number in https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history You may be able to obtain a part service history from Lexus too. Buying on FB marketplace I would also check all the paperwork very meticulously.

I checked on Toyodiy for the part number for the 1993-1994 model year but did also notice that Amayama listed this as a 1990-1992 part. AFAIK the rear glass would be the same as the main changes from the series 1 and II were front brakes going to 2 pot, bigger wheels from 15” to 16” and various other mainly cosmetic changes. That said obviously you need to be sure the rear screen is correct so I will look into this further for you.
