  1. You are completely correct Malc...Japanese models don’t have all this emissions rubbish on them as there is no requirement in Japan. Apparently the lack of this gives me another 1-2 BHP as well 😀.
  2. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Under 100k with service history for pocket money.....good find and buy. Feel free to post up some pictures...we all like to see bargains.
  3. IIRC if you want to put a numberplate on retention the vehicle must have a current MOT.
  4. Unless things have changed you cannot have the new number plates made without the authorisation document from the DVLA. The plate maker will need to see the document and record details from it ( this is to help prevent cloning of vehicles) before the plates can be given to you.
  5. This is for the earlier LS but may help with a flush or partial fluid change. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/transmission/ The transmission fluid doesn’t just do the hydraulic functions inside the transmission but also provides critical cooling and lubrication. It is therefore very important to ensure the fluid is fresh and of the correct type specification (Toyota TypeIV). If the fluid is past its best it can cause gumming up of the valves and shift solenoids.
  6. What with this and my coin holder failing after 25 years I’m seriously considering selling mine before something more serious goes wrong like the tyres wearing out 😀
  7. I bought mine off ebay when I was 50, cost me £85.00 plus another £10.00 towards the paperwork....it was a lot easier to transfer then too with local walk in DVLA offices which have all since closed. Also have some authentic looking Japanese showplates and how about my latest rear numberplate.
  8. Didn’t know they still made that stuff, I have a pump action can in the garage that belonged to my Dad. I remember when you could get a shot at the pumps.
  9. The wobble test is not always conclusive for a worn wheel bearing it may be the bearing has dried out so rough running will make a noise. Tyres are another possibility but given the quality and make it makes it doubtful. I notice you are also in Derbyshire, I have a spare set of Lexus wheels and tyres if you wanted to try them on yours to see if it sorts your problem.
  10. I used to insure mine with either A-Plan or Performance Direct for around £300.00 a year fully comp but now use a classic car insurer (Footman James) as it is my 2nd car and does very little mileage.
  11. Looks very nice but I can’t understand why when you had the rest done you didn’t include the bonnet, roof and boot lid. Surely the additional cost would have been worth the complete job?
  12. When I bought a battery from Lexus Derby I was sat in the showroom with the complimentary coffee and biscuits looking out of the car park only to see the parts guy who was dealing with me walk over to the Toyota dealership on the other side and walk back.......with my battery!
  13. I’m not very good with computers however I know about photo shops......I always take my films there for developing and printing.😀
  14. Blimey...they’ve gone up a good bit they used to be around the £60-70 mark. I’m pretty sure the warranty on the Toyota/Lexus one was longer than a year when I purchased one a few years back. Personally I would go for the Halfords one with the extended warranty but having said that have you seen these? Just make sure the terminal positions are correct before ordering. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xlexus+ls400+battery.TRS0&_nkw=lexus+ls400+battery&_sacat=0
  15. They’re not to bad new from Lexus although why some are around £10.00 and others £30.00 I don’t know. Pick your colour from the list.
  16. Never tried a £2.00 coin in there, if you could send me any spare ones I’m happy to try them and report back 😀
  17. The only thing I found in mine Malc was a few Japanese Yen under the rear seat, exchange rate at the time meant they were worth 32p. 😀
  18. Been looking at a dashcam for some time but there’s always other priorities when it comes to spending money. This week however I heard an advert on the radio for LIDL car accessories which looking at their website revealed a Nextbase 112 Dashcam on offer at mere £29.99 with an RRP of £49.99. This was at 12.00 on Sunday and although doubtful there would be any left I drove to my local store and managed to get one.....winner! Fitted the kit in my van as this is what I drive the most then....here comes the Lexus bit....I then fitted another power supply for it in the LS400. Removed the interior light cluster and mirror and found there was space above to install the power supply which I decided to tap off the supply for the interior light but then realised it needs to be a switched 12 volt supply so the camera only operates when the ignition is switched on. I reconfigured the light so the interior and driver’s side map lights come on together then used the manual map light switch to supply the power so I now had a switchable supply. So now all I have to do is move the camera and mount between vehicles and connect the USB lead for power in either. It’s only the base dashcam but has good features including a shock sensor which records if the car is bumped also already had a 32gb memory card so no further expense.
  19. I noticed the coin tray was open today and found it didn’t latch when pushed back in. Pulled it completely out and discovered the plastic latch has broken so the hooked end was missing hence the problem. Fortunately the broken piece was still there sitting in the aperture. Not going to find one of these easily so took it to pieces, araldited the broken part back on and then plastic welded with a couple of bits of stiff wire to reinforce. Put it all back together, refitted and hey presto fixed .....hopefully this will now last another 25 years!
  20. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I also owned a GS300 for a while albeit a 1999 model year, certainly different to the LS400 I still have. I was torn between the 2 at one time but the LS400 won when I had an instant buyer for the GS.
  21. Seriously thinking of coming to this, would there be room for my 1994 Toyota Celsior on a display stand?
  22. Can I just add if buying from an independent most Lexus dealers will provide a free vehicle health check which would show up any potential problems and associated costs.
