  1. I bought my 1994 Celsior for £3750.00 back in 2006 with 38,000 miles ( converted from 62,000 kim’s ) and still haven’t got to 100k yet.
  2. Hello Lisa and welcome to the LOC. Having owned my LS400 for over 13 years now I have occasionally thought about buying a newer model but like you I have never had a major problem with the car, it keeps passing the MOT and spends most of its time in the garage so I can’t justify buying another to do the same. The front leather seats need attention so I will spend some money getting these done knowing the rest of the car is solid and reliable. At the end of the day it’s going to be your personal decision but I’m sticking with mine.
  3. Mine has had a flat battery twice and a broken rear spring in 13 years....if anything else goes wrong it’s gone 😀
  4. I’ve just spent 20 minutes on the parts database and cannot find that part! The only thing I can suggest is to remove the part and see if there is a part number stamped on it, these are normally 5 + 5 digits, if you can provide the number I can look up the part for you.
  5. I looked at your profile and it says you have an IS200 so I put up that model, here is the LS400 diagram, the sensor is located under the plastic ignition wire bridge slightly back and to the left of the ignition coil.
  6. It sounds like the EGR valve has jammed fully open, are you also getting plumes or smoke out of the exhaust. Did the guy who did the cleaning check the valve solenoid operation? I would be going back to the place that did the cleaning and ask them to sort it out properly this time or refund you the cost.
  7. I may still have some capacitor kits left over from some rebuilds and kit supplies for some members a few years ago, I will have a look over the weekend and let you know. Just done a same day turn around on a 1994 climate control LCD for another member yesterday, already refitted and working fine.
  8. It’s more common I think for the UCA ball joint to fail especially so with the general condition of UK roads!
  9. A bit like my OEM Celsior floor mats, twice as heavy as Lexus ones and they bleat when you put your feet down on them 😀
  10. I’ve been very lucky with mine. Replaced both front LBJs with OEM Lexus parts in 2010 at a cost of £120.00 the pair, had the passenger side UCA fail after dropping into a huge pothole and managed to find an brand new OEM one on ebay for £125.00 compared to Lexus price of £513.00! Replaced both rear springs with KYBs after one broke for around £90.00, even after 25 years the TEMS dampers/shock absorbers are still serviceable. Just gained another years ticket with no advisories and with the mileage I now do ( less than 2K a year) I still can’t justify replacing it.
  11. When looking for some front LBJs a few years ago the Blueprint ones were more expensive than OEM Lexus. But worth comparing prices in general as they do seem to be of reasonable quality and sponsor quite a few magazine car repair projects.
  12. Yes also had the droopy heat shield, managed to repair with a large washer.
  13. Since I first got mine it has always had a squeak when going over speed humps but only when the engine is cold from overnight, if I come back over them a couple of miles later no squeak. It’s all OEM suspension but does have TEMS.
  14. Mine’s been in for its MOT today, last year one advisory for corroded brake pipe covered in grease so said to garage if the pipe needs doing fit it and then test. Car was delivered back an hour later with a pass and the same advisory. I think corrosion advisories are very subjective, one tester’s advisory is another’s straight pass, surface rust is just that so not affecting structural integrity. Most of the suspension and chassis components on these cars are built to tank standards.
  15. I’ve never really understood these “sealed for life transmissions” but assume it is based on the expected life of the car not mileage. The transmission fluid must deteriorate constantly heating up and cooling down plus what about all the debris collected in the fluid. Ok there are magnets in the sump for magnetic particles and a filter but there are the same on the engine but these are not sealed for life.
  16. Hello Kevin and welcome to the LOC. I was going to suggest the linkage has come off but you have now sorted it.
  17. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Sorry don’t know about the headlight type v trim levels but auto levelling and headlight washers are compulsory for HID units.
  18. Assuming yours is post 07/2003 with the six speed it’s coming up as a H1.
  19. Have look to see if there is any wiring loom and connector behind.
  20. I agree looks like a 2.5mm jack plug for audio, maybe it was tucked behind the dash and the tech thought it was still in use so left it accessible. Wonder if he got into the passenger side and wondered where the steering was was 😀
