  1. Yesterday the new Central Locking system got fitted so today, having now got most of the parts, it was back to sorting the windscreen washer problem. I joined the 2 washer nozzle pipes together using one of the 4mm Y pieces easy enough. As previously mentioned the car has both a wash and rinse reservoir and one uses a 4mm pipe the other 6mm so I fitted an in-line plastic reducer on the 6mm so we’re all 4mm now. Another Y piece connected the 2 reservoir pipes together and an additional short piece of pipe connected the 2 Y pieces together. I wasn’t sure if I needed some non return valves, I did order some but failed to notice that they were being sent from China with May/June delivery date but it all seems OK without them with instant water flow when demanded and no apparent back flow between the reservoirs. If I do get problems I’ll fit them on arrival. Adjusted the nozzles for aim with a fine needle and working well. I managed to break the clips that fasten the sound deadening to the bonnet which needs to be partially removed to get to the plumbing but ordered 10 replacements from flea bay for a couple of pounds and fitted fine.
  2. I can open the boot with the engine running on mine but it is an import so as usual could differ from Lexus branded models of the same year. Just got to get the boot lid to fully open now and I have an Air Brake/Speed Brake like a Boeing 😀
  3. The lock/unlock function is “piggy backed” onto the door switch so you still retain the original switch function i.e. you can still lock/unlock the doors with the switch or the key in the lock. The remote boot opening is a bonus as it never had it a standard. The transmission is fine, you’ll get used to my sense of humour 😀
  4. I purchased the Hawk one suggested by Howard which arrived within a couple of days and seems to be of a reasonable quality. They do supply an installation guide booklet and a model specific sheet but this only gives the wire colour and rough location so a bit of metering is required. Fitting involves removing the driver’s side lower dash, the heating ducting and the sill trim. Took me around 4 hours due to having to confirm the wiring and routing the wiring, the indicator flasher wires were too short to reach to the Hazard Warning switch so had to be extended but the rest were fine. This particular unit has the facility to remote open the boot (although the symbol on the fob is for sound mute on a TV) .The early LS400s with a single button key fob did not have this feature so this is a nice addition. The instructions say a relay is required but this is already fitted OEM so it was just a case of wiring to the boot release switch. Simply hold the fob button for 3 seconds to pop the boot. Another thing I have found is that all the doors unlock automatically when the ignition is turned off, this will save the other half from opening the window every time we stop and get out. The fourth button when pressed makes the indicator flash 3 times to assist vehicle location. Considering Lexus want around £500.00 for the chip and 3 keys I am pretty pleased with my £20.00 system which does more. I have noticed that since fitting when you select D the car goes backwards and when selecting R it goes forwards, I am however now getting used to this and I’ve put a label on the wood shifter panel like with the alien spaceship in Independence Day. Oooops. 😀
  5. Just had one of these but I will suggest it again.....insert key into ignition, turn to ignition and leave for 8 minutes, remove key, reinsert key then see if engine now starts. This process resets the immobiliser on earlier cars so it may work on yours, there again the number of fault codes may mean it doesn’t. If it doesn’t I would have the ECU rig tested.
  6. Quick tip....when you push the pistons back to accommodate the new pads release the calliper bleed nipple to prevent pushing the fluid back down the lines to the master cylinder.
  7. Hello and welcome to the LOC. If your handy with a Multimeter and reading diagrams you should be good to go. I’ve worked in electronics/electrics all my working life and still love a challenge.
  8. Unfortunately the link was to a 3rd party website which the LOC have no control over, if you google 3S-GE pinout ot wiring diagram there are many links which should help you.
  9. I agree, the only political topics to be discussed on the LOC should be right wing, left wing and the bonnet in the centre. As such I have locked this post.
  10. What car is the transmission fitted to? Initial checks would be the shift linkages and selector switch.
  11. Boot lid wiring issues only affected early LS400 models between 1990-1994. Transmission diagnostic codes first job, possible shift solenoid issues.
  12. Check for power i.e. 12 Volts on the two fuses on the top right of the picture. I’d love to get my meter out on this fault.
  13. If possible the colour of the brake fluid is checked on an MOT, if it looks “old” this can result in an advisory on the test. Not a problem as such just replace the fluid but if you are selling the car it may put off potential purchasers’ who check the MOT history and think poor maintenance regime .......move on.
  14. Hello Jon and welcome to the LOC. Looks like you’ve had a good search for previous posts, could you explain in a bit more detail what your problem is as the previous post is 11 years old now.
  15. Hi James and welcome to the LOC. For some reason I cannot view your video file, probably an ipad thing as there have been 10 other downloads. Have you checked your disc shields as they sometimes get bent when replacing the discs and end up catching them.
  16. Hello Rob and welcome to the LOC. V8 conversions have been done before including super and turbocharging, do you already have an engine? The early models had thicker and stronger con rods but the later ones were VVTI. You can basically buy everything to do it off the shelf but it’s cheaper if you can fabricate things like engine mounts.
  17. Hello Jacob and welcome to the LOC. Pretty sure someone in the IS-F section will know your car....let the modifications begin 😀
  18. Thank you, the link gives the address as Sandbach Cheshire, do you mean the one in Mickleover, Derby?
  19. If you need to remove the arm from the drive spindle easily I found a small ball joint splitter works well. Slacken the nut but don’t completely remove it to protect the threads, place the splitter under the wiper arm and gently tighten the bolt onto the loosened nut to break the taper off the splines.
  20. Turn key back, remove, re-insert, immob light should then go out, then try starting.
