  1. Those of us with JDM imports now tend to hold onto them, there’s nothing new being made these days to compare to them.
  2. After the rust treatment solution perhaps mask off the belt contact areas and then spray Hammerite rather than brush it on to avoid excess build up. While you have the tensioner and idler pulleys off replace the bearings, they only cost a few pounds for decent replacements and take a few minutes to do. I would also give that green gilled earth wire a good examination and clean to prevent any potential faults in the future. Don’t forget the tensioner bolt is reverse threaded.
  3. Good information, yep rears are a bit of a pain with having to remove the seat and rear parcel shelf to gain access to the top mounting nuts.
  4. Wow, looks like you caught it just in time! Do they still have the drain tap on the bottom or is that something else that disappeared on later models?
  5. That’s not Sainsbury’s at Ripley is it, I don’t go often enough to be sure from the picture?
  6. Cancellation terms and conditions should be clearly stated within your insurance documents and do vary between companies. Section 11 suggests you will have to continue with your monthly payments and they will refund the unused period pro rata. https://www.lloydsbank.com/assets/media/pdfs/insurance/car/comprehensive-policy-document.pdf
  7. It’s easy to do your own diagnostics on the older models Stuart, all you need is a bent paper clip and follow the instructions on the link. There are 2 knock sensors one on each bank which give codes 52/53/55. Not sure about accessing via the EGR valve aperture but it’s very tight in there. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html
  8. You’re very brave parking in a supermarket car park, even more so next to the trolley store. 😀
  9. Just had a closer look at mine and may have hit the buffers. the inner seat rail on the LS is attached to the transmission tunnel not the floor.
  10. Hello Dave and welcome to the LOC. There are some shocking prices when it comes to Lexus parts so the warranty is a good idea especially when you get more than the premium back on one claim. Does the extended warranty also give you breakdown cover? I need a couple of seat base replacement covers on mine, a 1994 Lexus LS400 variant.... £1495.00 each ....they’ll rot on the shelf before I pay those prices.
  11. Jumped forums today 😀 I have a 1994 Toyota Celsior JDM import aka Lexus LS400 which has tatty front passenger seats and despite contacting several repair companies I am no nearer a solution. I have located a set of seats from a late model GS300 (2004) in good condition and a good colour match but I don’t know if they will fit to the existing mountings in mine. Could someone get me some measurements of the seat runners mounting holes front to rear and side to side to see if this conversion is feasible, the actual width of the seat base side to side would also help. Thank you, Steve.
  12. Lexus have disc brakes all around with an independent parking brake so the parking brake remains on with the vehicle in Park. For safety reasons use a suitable trolley jack and axle stands not the scissor jack. A wheel chock is normally located in the boot toolkit.
  13. I’ve filled mine up twice since the lockdown and covered some amazing mileage, the battery was a bit flat the other day but a quick charge sorted things out so it now starts on the button. I also did all the service maintenance, cleaned it and checked all the tyre pressures. I also ran it through all the height positions. The grass hasn’t looked this good for years. 😀
  14. That’s very informative Clare, welcome to the LOC, is there anything we can help you with regarding Lexus vehicles?
  15. I watched a “Wheeler Dealers” type programme the other week and the guys had a set of 4 callipers rebuilt and repainted, they cleaned them, shot blasted them, removed all the casting marks then repainted them before fitting new pistons and seals. The cost however was £750.00.....you could have bought new I think at that price even from Lexus!
  16. It is cheap I’ve been quoted £320 for all 4 wheels and it’s done over 4 days, mine are a “Mirror finish.” The guy does all my paintwork and told me that the wheels are first sprayed black then a translucent silver is sprayed on top of that to produce the finish.
  17. Please provide a drawing of the scene of the accident 😀
  18. Surprised to see that, they are normally removed before shipping for obvious reasons. If your LS does ever break down you can be totally JDM and set it off behind the car 😀
  19. It’s exactly the same with mine.....we do have a flare tube though 😀
  20. I already own a JDM imported vehicle which was already converted to MPH before purchase, there are companies which can carry this out or you can buy the electronic unit for DIY installation. Below is an example http://www.ncs-systems.com/car-electronics/import-vehicle-interfaces.html If not already fitted you will also need a rear fog light retro fitted, some simply add one below the rear bumper which looks naff or integrate it into the rear lights, it will of course require the wiring and a tell tale switch fitting on the dash. Just make sure you have owned the car for over 6 months in HK to avoid import taxes and VAT. I’m assuming you have already organised collection from the port, MOT, insurance and the other paperwork. Finally welcome to the LOC. 😀
  21. Not sure if this helps but gives the dimensions of the terminal removal tool.
  22. Ooops! I don’t have the Lexus electrical workshop manual for the series III LS400, you can buy the plug and contact inserts but given the present situation even with part numbers this would be difficult. I would get one out of a breaker as it’s not a common purchase. Just make sure the seller cuts the loom long so you can splice the wiring. Best method is solder and heat shrink.
