  1. All that power for less than 40 MPH and it probably does gallons to the mile not that those who buy one will care about that 😀 An ideal craft for the Norfolk Broads.
  2. The reason why the LS400s never suffered the same fate as the LS430 is because they had separate engine coolant radiators and transmission coolers so they could never mix the 2 fluids. Cost was a minor factor in the LS400 production whilst it did become an issue in the LS430 onwards which ended up with a combined and therefore cheaper option.
  3. It does seem a bit weird but maybe designed that way, anything mentioned in the handbook? I would ask the dealer on the next service or jump into one in the showroom and see if it does the same. At least no one can say they didn’t see your brake lights 😀
  4. These are on my Celsior, done by a local paint shop. Anthracite I think.
  5. Hi Jeremy and welcome to the LOC 😀
  6. Is it merely a coincidence that these thefts have been discussed for years on this forum but on the very same day the BBC cover the subject a law firm then issues a statement inviting “compensation” claims? Didn’t something similar happen after the VAG emission scandal? Personally I can’t wait to see the TV advertisement “Where there’s blame there’s a claim” and “Our people are waiting to take your call”
  7. You beat me to it Dom 😀
  8. Hi Christine and welcome to the LOC. There is a remote key fob function that will do this I.e. wind down all your windows and open the sun roof. IIRC ( check this in your owner’s handbook) you need to press and hold the unlock button. I wonder if you accidentally pushed the button as you walked away and put the keys in your pocket or bag? The other option is did you try and open the car from a distance on your return and pressed the unlock button several times or for a longer press than normal? Obviously keep an eye on it.
  9. I remember ( just) having very similar symptoms on my old 1994 Celsior which went away after replacing the LBJs which had play in the ball joints. It may be worth checking these with a pry bar for excessive play.
  10. Just curious, why is it called the “School Run”? We have “Rush hour” but not “Work Run”. Interesting that the word run is included, I myself walked to school as the car as then was only just invented but only ran if I was late. The early years regular exercise also appears to have helped my fitness in my later years too.
  11. Hi Phil, Good to see you’re still watching. Can you remember which pads are on at the moment? Reason I ask is I have millimetres to spare in the garage getting the Celsior in and the door fully closed, I put a couple of wooden blocks on the floor in front of the tyres to avoid hitting the end wall. I have to creep very slowly but at such a low speed the brakes are either on or off accompanied with a “ grunching” sound when released and a sudden lurch forward. In other words I can’t touch the blocks smoothly. After a bit of digging this appears to be a common issue with modern brake pads so I was wondering if another make would make a difference. The car is till running great with 3 advisory free MOTs since I bought it from you although I did have to spend £16.00 on it last week for a split passenger side wiper blade which by coincidence were also Bosch branded. Still not clocked up 100K 😀
  12. Hi Igor and welcome to the LOC 😀 It sits nice on those wheels and great find with that mileage. Keep us up to date on your first Japanese project, getting another set of headlights shouldn’t be too difficult from a rear ended breaker.
  13. No the ECU is coded to the car so provided you put the same one back it will reset.
  14. According to the definition of a vehicle “Hardware Component” this would suggest a modified ECU.
  15. The thing is with the capacitors in the ECU over time they do become thermally sensitive and their internal resistance increases (ESR). Greater resistance results in more heat so the capacitors then begin to swell up. Their construction is foil, paper and liquid all sealed inside by a rubber bung where the leads emerge, due to internal pressure build up the seal eventually ruptures resulting in a leak of the liquid (electrolyte) which being corrosive then attacks the copper print on the board and the capacitance continues to fall below its nominal value (i.e. it doesn’t do its job anymore). This could explain why everything seems OK when cold but when warmed up the problems start due to heat also building up inside the ECU. Another issue is “dry joints” on the soldering again due to heating and cooling over the years. If you want me to take a look at it for you P.M me, I’m a retired electronics tech and have repaired quite a few ECUs for other members.
  16. You’re going to need a service manual for the electrical system, I found this https://tinyurl.com/ydktky5n I would think there is a single cause for all the non functioning items but without a diagram it’s difficult to pin point.
  17. Hi James and welcome to the LOC. That was a good find with such low mileage. Similar story with me, Rover 213, 216 EFi, 820, 825 then to Lexus or in my case JDM Lexus badged as Toyotas. I owned a 1994 Celsior (LS400) for 16 years and presently own a 2004 Celsior (LS430).
  18. Just looking at front brake pads for my 2004 Celsior which are the same as the LS430 so first checked on LPD who have them at £78.35 plus £6.95 shipping ( I thought LOC members got free shipping?). Next Amayama but they are coming through at £81.68 plus £35.17 shipping then add 20% VAT to the total. Given the more frequent “No Longer Available” and the increase in prices particularly shipping costs I wonder if Amayama was the place to go for cheaper OEM Lexus parts.
  19. Hi Steve and welcome to the LOC. Let’s have some pictures please, we like pictures 😀
  20. There is a slight drop, leave it overnight and then recheck, if there is a crack in the core it could open up more when the coolant is hot.
  21. It does sound like one of the vent control actuators trying to change position but it’s got stuck mid position. Have you replaced your pollen filter recently?
  22. Shaun messaged me and I have replied, my money is on the radiator leaking engine coolant into the transmission.
  23. Hello Kirsty and welcome to the LOC. Are these the parts your Son needs circled in the picture? If yes I can give you the part numbers from Lexus which will cost around £50.00 or a cheaper option would be to find a breaker ( eBay) and get the parts used.
  24. She has been going on about it for years Len along with “bingo wings” and a “tummy tuck” It’s when I tell her you can’t improve on perfection like a Lexus that she hits me!
