Hello and welcome to the LOC Omotayo. As far as I know the Lexus ES was never sold in the UK but below is a link found by searching google explaining the differences between the years you mention. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_ES

The fact that the council claim to have an inspection regime in place is no defence. Let’s put the shoe on the other foot. You are driving along and you see a police car behind you (OK rare I know) requesting you pull over. You pull over and the officer checks your tyres and finds 2 are below the legal limit and one has a dangerous bulge in the inner sidewall. Can you imagine the response if you then turned around and said “My tyres are checked 12 times a year, the last inspection was 28 days ago and the next is due in 4 days so it’s not my fault this has happened inbetween”

Yep, sounds like the right plan, fill the system, start the engine, heater on full, check and top as required, fit pressure cap, check gauge, check for any leaks and then check again regularly over the next week. Toyota long life red coolant either premixed or concentrate with distilled water. The concentrate is cheaper and if you have a dehumidifier use the collected water from that.

Intake air control valve actuator, a £60.00 part involving major surgery to fit it due to it’s buried location under the manifold. Another piece of EGR related emission control gadgetry that tends to fail on a regular basis and as you are already aware costs a fortune to replace.

Different seller but they do cream https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leather-Colour-Restorer-balm-Dye-Faded-Worn-Leather-Sofa-Chair-Repair-15ml/383416822081?var=651849318818&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item59456c6941:g:7Q0AAOSweMJeQtEH&enc=AQAEAAACcIQvEcHUrT7nmUC3yY5qbPyaBN1nJEDYW8MyypsJPgXKpYSzz9%2FsG0TJDO4uQ4aUXALILItvroc%2BmPFB%2FoNUsBvKQWkgdktzQHOqb3%2BEFVNg0eiKgoVFKwit0NHg6rpjQ83R02SKQCFbeQ5uH%2Ff6Sz4gFBfEb3%2B1FoFlCoJv11Abe8UTvVNfwiLZ1ZLThQypPrME4sprowENTucwhVYocsDEFokJDGh5AvwVa0Apr%2BWCSPt2fYw4KQ7B06oTLmwMnYW03EPlH9BK0PfzNyE5LOoiaYZGWyNce8uX5%2FMyAgTDiX2PhTqDUeorwI%2Ff8QC1BZU03GC%2Fq4DL0p8OtFGjUkimoJKeenMxDz%2F1F8ixDMPKwcbQj3QiTmV3h3L1vN5XbZJTdqUsi5deLqZZ7LcAJK7q75OevgI3Ik9%2Fbl1kqlNdqHeb1N93Y2TXEXqpXn07fq83FdAS%2BqhX%2BszeaqODOfh4k4hhsmQW8QmfufT4rlAOtjCCn1sALCNV6UMmND0U3dQ69xzAleXSAfIALcq2OihsKQwkqics828XepvxvzqdpnYc2in4I01%2BuVrXNrFVEfVTpit7Pei1CQeMnLNwK41dElVIXe1Sba2hLkKnrXW2UuKs00Swy%2B6pdZ%2FQvXZOrldFy4TxXT03Qu4yOEyoT%2BpY9O98Ge%2BNmuXqW2l3z4IRSI%2FfJhBz4cwbvQzRP2EH6Nftb%2Fr%2B4AviHf%2BZvNkxsSSb3HoHlznteIrrcjjt5dCf%2FYj5NadW%2B8DwIScZIbuSLRjhuTbIC70yAZoVGZ0jsXvnmqhAv4pZ1AqegGDzaGjUVJ5%2FTWC9nh%2BB9b0MrCNHdw%3D%3D&checksum=383416822081626dab2e555149f58d59bfed8b9aacf1

Hello and welcome to the LOC. Lots of things to discover some of which take years to find, had a guy the other day who after owing an LS400 for years had just discovered the mini pull down sun visor above the rear view mirror. Thinking the engine has stalled you’ll get used to 😀

It’s section 3 you need to follow, mark around the striker plate them move it in a couple of mm towards the seats, pre marking with the pen allows you to see how far it has moved for reference. Retighten the bolts and see if the door has closed up enough. It’s a bit of a trial and error job.

There will be in the factory manual, you can access all of the Lexus manuals on a pay per view basis ( one day is only a few pounds compared to £200-300 for the paper copy). Unfortunately I don’t have the link but another member will hopefully chip in with that. If it is the the trailing edge of the door not aligned (lock end) you can adjust the striker plate on the door pillar by slackening off the securing bolts under the covers. I would suggest using a washable ink sharpie pen to mark the outline of the original position so you can see where it has moved to after adjustment.

Sto molto bene 😀 Seems like a lot of money to me, obviously a wheel refurb company but sold needing refurbishment and all new tyres, heading towards a grand to get them right. -
Well here’s something different. Has any member ever been involved in the initial development of Concorde, from the drawing board design, modelling or wind tunnel testing or know anyone involved? I understand most of this was done by BAE at Filton but despite the www I cannot find a piece of specific information I am in need of.

Cheers Steve, not seen it happen this session yet.

What do my spark plugs tell me about my car (with pic)
steve2006 replied to PeterTorbet's topic in Engine & Transmission
Now look what you’ve done, been sitting in my garage for a few months and now I keep seeing them, looks like the next project after the seats now 😀 -
It seems to be happening on all browsers, I use Safari and MS Edge. Not had any ads pop up. I’ll let Steve know.

Hi Stuart, Yes it does open the boot with the engine running, mine has always been like that so fitting the kit made no difference. They all have an integrated relay, regarding location all I can tell you is that it is located somewhere around or maybe in the under dash fuse board on the driver’s side. When I pulled the remote lever in the car I could hear it click. Like most systems in a Lexus the circuit is completed by grounding to chassis, in the case of the boot switch 12 volts is present on one side of the remote boot switch and the other terminal is connected to earth ( battery negative). When you pull the lever the switch contacts close completing the circuit. Current then flows through the relay whose contacts also close completing the circuit to the boot opening actuator.

What do my spark plugs tell me about my car (with pic)

Two different makes of plugs won’t help, “chocolate brown” were always the key words for correct colour of the tips if the mixture was correct so looking OK there. The oily one looks more like blow by than spark plug tube gasket failure probably under torqued. To refit the spark plugs get a piece of rubber tubing that fits snugly over the electrode nipple ( also make sure these are tight), lower the plug into the engine then twist the rubber hose to get the thread started. This will prevent the possibility of cross threading as you have more feel when turning the plug in. Finally nip them up to the correct torque. A smear of dielectric grease on the top of the plugs will assist plug lead removal in the future but iridium are usually good for up to 100,000 miles. -
I initially thought it was an ipad glitch but it’s the same on my windows laptop. I am looking at a page on the LOC and occasionally the page will scroll up and then back down to to where it was? Anyone else seeing this?

There should be some stainless steel inserts that fit into the carrier and then the pad edges fit into, make sure these are greased up while you have it in the garage.

It looks like Big Redd are in the process of producing a complete calliper fixing kit containing all the required parts, including the pad end inserts. It may be worth contacting them to see when they will be available. They will certainly be cheaper than Lexus for the complete kit.
