  1. They offer little if any protection, hitting a kerb generally results in the removal of a chunk of rubber from the tyre at that point just before the alloy also contacts the kerb. By the time you feel that kerb the damage is done.
  2. Not sure if this will help, the sensor itself is not shown but it looks like the valve and a fitting kit are available separately?
  3. I would think very carefully before you start breaking into circuits and adding non OEM devices, the standard fit alarm immobiliser should provide adequate theft protection. With modern car electronics and Can bus you could end up in a mess if the circuit you modify supplies another essential ECU. If you do need additional theft protection consider a steering wheel lock or wheel clamp both of which are quick and easy to fit and remove plus a visible deterrent.
  4. I must have been lucky, when I bought my Celsior back in 2006 the seller ran a guest house in Blackpool but did grey imports as a side business ( his own car was a Nissan GT-r ). Good purchase as the car is still going strong 14 years later with just the usual problems sorted ( climate control display, starter motor contacts).
  5. Had the car been converted from air suspension or were the dampers conventional from factory? Mine has springs but TEMS dampers so the damping is electronically controlled, no problems yet but new replacements are likely to be expensive if still available.
  6. It cost me around £100.00 for the kit including colour matching. Labour wise probably 10 hours per seat but the first one took longer. You get an airbrush with the kit which is useless along with the 1 can of propellant, I already had a compressor so bought a mini spray gun.
  7. Just be careful with US sellers’ they are normally LHD versions which will not fit without some serious cross wiring, I know a RHD version is available for the 1990-1994 models ( also 5 times the cost!) but not sure about later ones.
  8. I would just order them from Lexus for what they cost new. Check that second part number again as it is showing as something else assuming it’s the part shown below you need.
  9. Grab yourself a “ trim removal tool kit” from the likes of ebay, various plastic tools to fit most clips and without causing any damage.
  10. The end wings on that trim have metal sandwiched in the plastic so can be reshaped to lie flatter. Double sticky sided tape or those foam “Prit Pads” can also be used to stick it down.
  11. Could I have the jelly worm please provided there’s not too much carpet fluff on it 😀
  12. Thanks again for all the helpful information, when I get the chance ( work permitting) I will follow it up and report back.
  13. Thank you for your responses, both the laptop and desktop are secondhand but both have a fresh install of windows 10. The pictures below show both specs. I did try and connect the laptop via Lan but the port light does not come on the router to indicate connection and the laptop fails to connect.
  14. Just for a change I’m asking a question instead of answering one. I generally use an iPad for my computer without any problems but recently decided, having seen the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, to buy a decent spec PC in order to run it. I also purchased a Windows laptop secondhand. Both are running Windows 10 but it is awful! Internet is so slow compared with Apple and it is impossible to download any programmes as the wi-fi randomly drops out. I had pre ordered the Flight Simulator but fortunately cancelled it and was refunded. Is it just me or is anyone else struggling with dial up internet speeds on windows?
  15. I did mine recently and my tip is to get a short piece of rubber hose which fits over the nipple connection of the plug, lower the plug in and twist the rubber hose to start the threading as this prevents possible cross threading. Pull off the hose and use a plug socket with a torque wrench to fully tighten.
  16. “The best Lexus LS400 ever !” Volume 4, just like those CDs “ The best rock album ever 3” I must admit “Old Baz” does turn his cars over repeatedly, I once asked him how his insurance company keeps up with him. He does seem to make an effort though on repairs and presentation.

    Alloys

In general Lexus wheels ( with the exception of the CT200h and LS600h) use the same wheel pattern which is 5 stud PCD 114.3, centre bore 60.1 and an offset around 45. There are also many Japanese makes that use the same, for example Mazda RX7/8 wheels will fit. Also be aware that OEM wheels tend to use what I call sleeved nuts and aftermarket tend to use tapered wheel nuts, it is very important that the correct type are used or damage could occur to the wheels or even result in loss of a wheel! There are websites which give listings of compatible wheels.
  18. Did it get serviced using Toyota Type IV transmission fluid or an “equivalent”?
  19. You can buy them new but at around €1200.00 for the 2 outer units only that’s a lot of money. There are some used ones on ebay.com but the prices plus shipping are still high. There are also some aftermarket replacements again from the USA but they may not ship to Europe and also may not meet the EU certification required. With the car being a JDM model Toyota Celsior) you may also have the single piece headlight/fog light, European models tend to have 2 separate parts held in a frame. If yours look like these ( picture below ) they were never made in LHD fitting as the Japanese drive on the left.
  20. You beat me to it Colin, I was just thinking the same, the timing marks only align once every 2 engine revolutions. Also ignore the marks on the belt they are only there to help initial installation of the belt, the new one should align both belt markings and timing marks wise. This link may also help you. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/engine/timingbelt.html
  21. It sounds like you got the car you wanted and at the time of purchase you were also happy with the price. For the price you paid, condition and the mileage I would have been happy. Does it have a full Service History? Post up a few pictures for us to see please.
  22. It looks like you remove the 2 recessed screws at the top of the surround then pull the bottom which is clipped in, be gentle as replacement is around £140.00! Once the front bezel is loose disconnect any wiring to it and remove, there are normally 4 instrument cluster retaining bolts usually 10mm which should release the cluster enough to get the electrical connectors out. I would normally suggest disconnecting the battery before doing anything like this but being a hybrid things may be different. I don’t think there is any legal requirement to change to MPH, the mileage on mine has been stated in KMs a few times on the MOT even though it was converted at import.
