So very true Phil, it started off as way of selling a few bits from your shed. It then turned into an outlet for businesses particularly for counterfeit goods from a certain asian country. The costs of selling rocketed, negative feedback for buyers was removed and reports go unactioned. It’s no wonder they are now having to advertise on TV and radio for new business. It would appear that Dodgy Dudley has now realised that anyone can now access the MOT history of a car and is now offering a complete under seal of the car to prevent further corrosion, no doubt a tin of Tetra seal and a brush will be found in the boot or a nice handwritten receipt for £40.00 will be shown to prove the job has been done.

Not bad generally but past MOTs a bit iffy considering a FTSH regarding worn out tyres and brake pads. Also failed once on major corrosion which is fine if it was repaired correctly. Oil warning light on is worrying! Radio not working is unusual but could be a fuse or the back lighting fault which is an easy fix Open to offers but nearer to £1200.00 than £1500.00.

You haven’t mentioned if the car has any service history but as Chris mentions start with the easiest options, one of these is the air filter, has it been checked?

So a Lexus dealer with every piece of Toyota diagnostic equipment and “Special Tool” in their tool cabinet have gone from a faulty high pressure fuel pump failure to a fuel rail failure to the immobiliser ECU failure and it took them 8 weeks and a call to Japan to get this far. Add to this that most of the official Service manuals have diagnostic flowcharts and even mine at 26 years old has a link to power the fuel pump bypassing the safety systems for testing. It would by now have passed my “fixed by” date and I would be asking some serious competency questions and getting that transporter booked. Pretty pleased mine only needs a reshaped paper clip and a service manual for diagnostics.

If you are losing coolant constantly and there are no obvious external leaks it has to be going somewhere internally. There have now been many cases of the engine coolant mixing with the transmission fluid due to a defective radiator intercooler. Given this problem I would get the problem investigated ASAP before you also possibly end up with a failed transmission. Also as previously mentioned if your car was purchased from a dealer you have Consumer Rights regarding defects within the first 6 months.

Mine is insured “agreed value” at £3000.00 at the moment but looking to increase this at renewal time. Collecting evidence of values at the moment to justify it. Going into the body shop at the end of November ( fully booked until then!) to have the crazed lacquer roof done and wheels refurbished. £400.00 for the roof and £320.00 for the wheels.I was waiting until the MOT to commit but passed again so investing in it now.

I find mine does it at start up when it been stood a day or so, large cloud of white smoke then fine a few seconds after. I think the fluid collects in the vacuum pipes then gets sucked into the engine and burnt. Parts have been ordered so should be with me before the weekend so I will then do mine first.

I have found a fix for the troublesome power steering idle up valve which when faulty causes the fluid to be sucked into the intake, burnt in the engine and produces white smoke from the exhaust. I have ordered the parts to repair the valve as mine has begun to show the failure symptoms and if successful I will update the post.

I’m no expert on DMFs and obviously not looking at your car it’s just an opinion of the possible cause. Have a read at the links from this google search. “Symptoms of a worn dual mass flywheel”
-
Top of the suspect list would be the DMF usually worn or broken springs, not sure if you can replace with a solid one.

Hi Rona and welcome to the LOC. Nice choice...is this your first Lexus?

I used to go to Lexus Derby to buy mainly filters, coolant and transmission fluid, nice to sit down in reception and enjoy a complimentary coffee and biscuits plus a look at the lastest new car offerings. Also used to get invited to all the promotion and model launch events ( champagne now not coffee 😀) but then the invites stopped coming. I guess they eventually sussed that I was never going to buy a new car from them even though my 1994 car was a good indication of Lexus build quality and reliability parked at the dealership.

Sure, here you go, I think not supplying any business details means they are not correct. Another point with ebay classifieds is that they are effectively sold “outside of ebay” and therefore “Buyer Protection” is not in place. So if you buy the car, get 200 yards up the road and the rear subframe drops off you cannot file a claim with ebay.

These days I would be worried pulling any fuse especially on a hybrid, you pull a fuse to check it put it back and when you come to start the car the displays comes up with “Hybrid System Malfunction consult dealer” 😀 The only things I have to do with a battery disconnect is retune to Radio Derby, turn the bass up and reset the clock.
