  1. Hi John and welcome to the LOC. It sounds like you only have the valet key not the master key hence why it won’t open the boot. New keys can only be programmed from a master key which is probably why even Lexus could not programme another key. If the key you have starts the car and it’s only locking/unlocking it doesn’t do I would fit an aftermarket remote locking system or face many thousands for new keys and ECU from Lexus. Of course never lose the only key you have. Just out of interest was this a recent purchase?
  2. I may be completely wrong but given the recent tyre change it looks like the jack has gone through the rotten sill. It’s not just a case of slapping a plate over it will need cutting back to good metal in 3 dimensions and rebuilding multiple layers resulting in a couple of days work with a mig welder and fabrication. Assuming the flywheel is OK there is a good offer on fleabay at the moment for the Aisin clutch kit at£150.00 just add half a day’s labour on top for fitting. If it’s a free car consider it .....if not walk on by. Have a look at this video to get an idea of the work required. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1QRLVT8Cafc
  3. The value is agreed between myself and the insurance company, I have mine insured for £5500.00 this year as prices appear to be on the up (looking at similar models on sale at Japanese auction sites it would now cost me over £10K to buy, import and register a similar model year and mileage). So if the car is ever written off I will receive the “agreed value” not a couple of hundred market valuation. In addition to this I also have a zero salvage deduction which effectively means I also get to keep the car and do as I please with it. The total cost is around £180.00 fully comprehensive with a £350.00 excess and an annual 3000 mileage limit ( proof is not required but if a claim was to be made they check the MOT history to make sure, mine was around 500 miles between tests last year).I seem to remember the glass excess has now increased to £80.00.
  4. Cat C on average will halve the value of a car. Mine was Cat C around 8 years ago due to front end damage but I had it professionally repaired, VIC and MOTd and hung onto it ever since. The insurers have never asked the question and it is now insured agreed value.
  5. Easiest way to determine if it’s the cluster or sender unit is to remove the connection to the sender on the tank and ground it...this should produce a full tank indication on the cluster. If it doesn’t you either have a broken wire between the sender and cluster or a faulty cluster.
  6. Hello Andrew and welcome to the LOC. Could you elaborate a little on the tailgate problem?
  7. It’s not the 5th injector throwing fuel in when it shouldn’t be is it? What’s the EGR valve looking like?
  8. Get some 22” wheels and max out that LS600h air suspension Jonathan, the ride would be rubbish but the height would be great 😀
  9. I’ve also taken a look at the “Navigation” manual with over 400 pages and couldn’t find anything either. I would give your dealer a call.
  10. When you replace it make sure you thoroughly clean the boot lip where the seal fits and apply a thin bead of silicon sealant around the lip. Lexus price below and part numbers below
  11. Hi Dave and welcome to the LOC. I only have the factory electrical manual for the 98-2000 model unfortunately but found this for the 1991 model. https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&sxsrf=ALeKk01kHYkExRln94Ls5P6kc5HqsviB-A%3A1614022578853&source=hp&ei=sgc0YNPvMcirtQbahaOwCA&q=Lexus+ls400+cluster+pin+out&oq=Lexus+ls400+cluster+pin+out&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBADMgcIIRAKEKABOgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOg4ILhCxAxCDARDHARCjAjoICAAQsQMQgwE6CwguELEDEMcBEKMCOgUIABCxAzoICC4QsQMQgwE6BQguELEDOgIILjoCCAA6BQgAEMkDOgcIIxDJAxAnOgYIABAWEB46BQghEKABOggIIRAWEB0QHjoECCEQFVDVJViZmQFgyqIBaAFwAHgBgAHCA4gB5ziSAQowLjIuMTcuNi4ymAEAoAEBsAEP&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#imgrc=VD7kWhFODNCs-M
  12. Blimey it looks like you need my gas flange grips, it may be worth trying to warm the filter up with a hair dryer..this should soften the rubber seal and allow it to release. Probably didn’t smear the seal with fresh oil and more than hand tightened when fitted!
  13. I read about this some time ago and an oil manufacturer said the same for higher mileage engines but did suggest 10W-40 only.
  14. Did the engine have the same problems in the Avensis?
  15. Mine has a couple of daft fails, one was due to the fact the tester couldn’t find the retrofitted rear fog light switch once even though he does the test every year. Japanese imports Phil...generally so clean you could tip the car on its roof and eat your dinner off the underside 😀
  16. No problem, always glad to help fellow members. I have full access to Toyota databases so if you need part numbers just let me know.
  17. I’ve used them once and had no problems at all, the parts come from either Japan or the UAE. The estimated delivery time is provided on the website when you select the part you need but is generally within a couple of weeks, if the parcel does get stopped for customs you can make payment online by card with delivery a few days later. If you look at my examples the sensor is 2-5 of March the brake cover 7-16 March. Paying by credit card gives you full protection over £100.00 should something go wrong.
  18. Is this any good for you? There are also some video tutorials. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-3rd-gen-2001-2006/757395-diy-the-step-by-step-telescopic-steering-write-up.html
  19. A new sensor is listed around £300.00 from Lexus however Amayama do the same for around £130.00 but be aware of possible import taxes and fees adding another £30.00 odd onto the total. Rockauto also do aftermarket replacements but they are as expensive as OEM from Amayama. They also do the brake shields for £12.00.
  20. I’ve never seen a completely “clean” MOT history before....never failed and not one advisory!
  21. Prices are on the up! Modern classics now! IIRC There are 4 series of LS400 and 2 marks Mark 1 Series I 1989-1992 UCF-10 Mark 1 Series II 1993-1994 UCF-10 Mark 2 Series III 1995-1997 UCF-20 Mark 2 Series IV 1998-2000 ( there are a few late 1997 models about) VVTI
  22. I have a JDM import bought back in 2006 with 62,000Km certified, still hasn’t hit 100,000 miles. No rust anywhere and still going strong. Recently been looking myself to import but prices have recently gone through the roof, even more so when you add in the shipping/insurance, import duty and VAT then the hassle of registration, MOT ( it will need a rear fog light conversion please don’t stick one under the rear bumper integrate it into the rear cluster). Fortunately I avoided all that as I bought the car in the UK. They do have some quirks, along with Japanese controls look for the “Flare Tube” under the passenger foot well and hopefully the complete lack of any EGR system which is not required in Japan.
  23. Have you seen this one with 2 year warranty ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEXUS-RX-400h-MK2-HYBRID-MANUAL-AUTOMATIC-RADIATOR-2005-2008-2-YEAR-WARRANTY/162179193486?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item25c2a21a8e:g:sToAAOSwGihfagMY
  24. I have a secondhand set for a 1990-1994 model .😀
