Hi John and welcome to the LOC. It sounds like you only have the valet key not the master key hence why it won’t open the boot. New keys can only be programmed from a master key which is probably why even Lexus could not programme another key. If the key you have starts the car and it’s only locking/unlocking it doesn’t do I would fit an aftermarket remote locking system or face many thousands for new keys and ECU from Lexus. Of course never lose the only key you have. Just out of interest was this a recent purchase?

Severe sill rust. Still worth the purchase?
steve2006 replied to IS200 roz's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
I may be completely wrong but given the recent tyre change it looks like the jack has gone through the rotten sill. It’s not just a case of slapping a plate over it will need cutting back to good metal in 3 dimensions and rebuilding multiple layers resulting in a couple of days work with a mig welder and fabrication. Assuming the flywheel is OK there is a good offer on fleabay at the moment for the Aisin clutch kit at£150.00 just add half a day’s labour on top for fitting. If it’s a free car consider it .....if not walk on by. Have a look at this video to get an idea of the work required. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1QRLVT8Cafc -
The value is agreed between myself and the insurance company, I have mine insured for £5500.00 this year as prices appear to be on the up (looking at similar models on sale at Japanese auction sites it would now cost me over £10K to buy, import and register a similar model year and mileage). So if the car is ever written off I will receive the “agreed value” not a couple of hundred market valuation. In addition to this I also have a zero salvage deduction which effectively means I also get to keep the car and do as I please with it. The total cost is around £180.00 fully comprehensive with a £350.00 excess and an annual 3000 mileage limit ( proof is not required but if a claim was to be made they check the MOT history to make sure, mine was around 500 miles between tests last year).I seem to remember the glass excess has now increased to £80.00.

I’ve also taken a look at the “Navigation” manual with over 400 pages and couldn’t find anything either. I would give your dealer a call. -
Hi Dave and welcome to the LOC. I only have the factory electrical manual for the 98-2000 model unfortunately but found this for the 1991 model. https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&sxsrf=ALeKk01kHYkExRln94Ls5P6kc5HqsviB-A%3A1614022578853&source=hp&ei=sgc0YNPvMcirtQbahaOwCA&q=Lexus+ls400+cluster+pin+out&oq=Lexus+ls400+cluster+pin+out&gs_lcp=ChFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocBADMgcIIRAKEKABOgcIIxDqAhAnOgQIIxAnOg4ILhCxAxCDARDHARCjAjoICAAQsQMQgwE6CwguELEDEMcBEKMCOgUIABCxAzoICC4QsQMQgwE6BQguELEDOgIILjoCCAA6BQgAEMkDOgcIIxDJAxAnOgYIABAWEB46BQghEKABOggIIRAWEB0QHjoECCEQFVDVJViZmQFgyqIBaAFwAHgBgAHCA4gB5ziSAQowLjIuMTcuNi4ymAEAoAEBsAEP&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#imgrc=VD7kWhFODNCs-M

I read about this some time ago and an oil manufacturer said the same for higher mileage engines but did suggest 10W-40 only.

Did the engine have the same problems in the Avensis?

I’ve used them once and had no problems at all, the parts come from either Japan or the UAE. The estimated delivery time is provided on the website when you select the part you need but is generally within a couple of weeks, if the parcel does get stopped for customs you can make payment online by card with delivery a few days later. If you look at my examples the sensor is 2-5 of March the brake cover 7-16 March. Paying by credit card gives you full protection over £100.00 should something go wrong. -

A new sensor is listed around £300.00 from Lexus however Amayama do the same for around £130.00 but be aware of possible import taxes and fees adding another £30.00 odd onto the total. Rockauto also do aftermarket replacements but they are as expensive as OEM from Amayama. They also do the brake shields for £12.00. -
I have a JDM import bought back in 2006 with 62,000Km certified, still hasn’t hit 100,000 miles. No rust anywhere and still going strong. Recently been looking myself to import but prices have recently gone through the roof, even more so when you add in the shipping/insurance, import duty and VAT then the hassle of registration, MOT ( it will need a rear fog light conversion please don’t stick one under the rear bumper integrate it into the rear cluster). Fortunately I avoided all that as I bought the car in the UK. They do have some quirks, along with Japanese controls look for the “Flare Tube” under the passenger foot well and hopefully the complete lack of any EGR system which is not required in Japan.
