  1. “Down....hold it down.....up slowly....down....slowly.....up......hold it....in...out...shake it all about, OK you go and make the tea I’ll manage” 😀
  2. Parking or even waiting on the zig zag lines at a crossing is 3 points and a fine not that I’ve ever heard of a conviction for doing so but see plenty doing it.
  3. Stealth approach mode given whoever fitted it didn’t want to be seen doing so. Obviously risk accessed that it would be safer crouching in a live traffic lane than rather than fitting it from the other side on the pavement! Just wondering if there are any warning notices visible to the driver or if they didn’t notice the clamp before trying to drive off.
  4. Certainly not Phil, this is on the 1994 which has been throwing white smoke now for a while on a cold start, hopefully now sorted and confirmed when I crank it over later today. All I’ve had to do on Celsior 2 is replace the number plate LEDs as they were flickering and the driver’s side light bulb. I can’t find anything else to do to it 😀
  5. Well it’s fitted so time will now tell. Fitting it was a complete PITA, Lexus design seems to dictate removal of more parts just to get to the faulty one. To get a spanner on the valve the high pressure banjo connection needs removing but even after modifying a 17mm ring spanner there is insufficient space to get the downwards facing bolt out. So working from underneath it was, the alternator now blocks access to the valve so that has to come out. Two nuts, one bolt and another electrical connector and then “ lower it out from underneath” except there are numerous hard lines and the ARB preventing this. I eventually had to drain the radiator, remove the thermostat to radiator bottom hose and unbolt the viscous fan reservoir just to squeeze it out from the top. Finally got access to the valve, unscrewed it and got a tray under to catch the fluid now escaping, pipes off, valve out. It was so shot the piston literally fell out of the housing! Reassembly was a lot quicker but still a good 3 hour job.
  6. I saw this a couple of days ago, the ECU hanging out and the fact that it has been opened immediately rang alarm bells. “Runs as smooth as silk” until it revs up! ”a consistent team of mechanics look after her” but not this time. It sounds like they’ve given up this time. If it were cheap maybe but already at £770.00 plus sorting the issues out, if you’re not local transporter costs at £1.50 a mile .....no thanks.
  7. There is a core charge but even losing that, adding shipping and VAT these work out cheaper plus delivery is usually just a few days. Or UK Bigg Red will refurb the old units for you.
  8. Take it in for the recalls....it usually results in a valet and free fuel top up for your trouble 😀
  9. Tell us more about this event, where and when. I know Car Mechanics Magazine used to do a £500.00 banger run every year. I’m pretty sure members would be happy to sponsor you for charity
  10. Hi and welcome to the LOC. The ML sound systems seem to have reliability problems compared with other available system such as Pioneer so you’re probably better off without.
  11. Hi Garry and welcome to the LOC. I’ve never had one fitted to my LS400 as they are factory stainless as standard. Stainless steel tends to be noisier than mild due to the material used, I’ve seen custom “cat back” systems on ebay for around £400.00 for other Lexus V8 models but no idea on quality or location. Pretty sure other members will chip in with more info.
  12. Although the scrapyard one is also listed for your car? Possibly a non nav type?
  13. Hemel...Hemel Hempstead John 😀
  14. Hi Allan and welcome to the LOC. Not come across this problem before, could you more specific where the leak is coming from i.e casing gasket or drive shaft oil seals ? Personally I’m not in favour of these “potions” they may swell the seals and stop the leak but for long term reliability the cause needs investigating and the part replaced.
  15. Or in your case David “Compare the Colour” any advance on the choice for the V5c yet?
  16. With insurance there are 3 “excesses”........compulsory excess, voluntary excess and excess prices! Apparently you can now insure your insurance excess by paying an additional premium on your insurance, this is known as car insurance premium excess protection premium gold standard cover. I wonder if this is also subject to the IPT or insurance tax as I call it. ” Quote me Happy” used to be the slogan for Norwich Union, now Aviva I think, I rang them once for a quote...it wasn’t pleasant they even tried to add my Mrs onto the policy in an attempt to reduce the premium despite me telling them she has never had a licence never mind driven a car. The eventually quote was triple my usual amount, I put the phone down and muttered “Quote me Wappy” Apparently LV do good insurance but only for green cars.
  17. If the replacement amplifier sorts the problem I would love to take a look at the faulty one, if the fault can be found and fixed for a reasonable cost it would help a lot of members.
  18. It was new car number plates for me, back in 1967 on the way to Skegness or Mablethorpe looking for plates ending in F.
  19. So Peter Jones has offered all the money for 20% of the company but that other guy profiteroles has also offered 80% of the money for 15% of the company, all the other dragons have said they’ll take me out. Just wish I could find my way back to the lift and leave quietly.
  20. Don’t make it worse, I only wanted me five quid back coz I felt cheated 😀
  21. Passed both tests at 17 I was born in 1959, check you calculations 😀
  22. Birthday is March 13th, you all missed it again this year but I eagerly await next year now you know 😀 (born on a Friday too!) but the licence renewal date is 11/6. At 70 you apply for a 3 year one based on a self health declaration i.e. can you still see other cars around you or are they similar to a blurry 1970s video game. “Dear DVLA I think there is a problem with my glasses from Specsavers”
  23. I don’t want to be the bearer of more bad news Malc but I think the teabags actually contain plastic along with the tea powder. The only times I go to the local “Recycling Centre” is to take garden “waste” so pruning cuttings and the like, grass cuttings go on my pile. I see people there with their 50 plus inch plasma TVs and watch them carefully put them in the designated area knowing with confidence the replacement from Argos has already been delivered. For 20 odd years that was my job, TVs back in the 70s had real wood cabinets and if rented or owned were repaired when they went wrong. At that time they were a “luxury” item and people like myself were respected. “ The TV man’s here Mam” “Oh I’m so glad your here, would you like a cup of tea, beer, large scotch or Christmas hamper?” Even today’s TVs can be repaired generally for a few quids worth of parts, a soldering iron and a bit of technical know how. Makes me smile when I see Curry’s “Know How” technical help...the only thing they are interested in is selling you a new one as they “Know Nowt” Anyway back to topic, where are you planning on getting your new radiator from JP?
