After recent thread on battery fails and suspicion of such, mine as gone crazy. I had a visit to supermarket last week, sat in car listening to Willie Nelson (Bless him) when the wife returned to the car one hour later it would not turn over green flag arrived jump started the engine and checked the alternator charging at 14.3v and I returned home. Been on float charge since then took it out of garage yesterday and put some air in tyres from comp off battery and result, flat battery. Took it off car and checked voltage this morning 13.14 v . This battery was bought in july 2012 when I got the car, it is a Yuasa 2794 which as now progressed to a Yuasa 3030. Ordered one off company in Midlands £83 00 delivered the same price as for the one that as just failed ,I have stuck with same maker as I have had more than the average 48 months life batteries give.

Nickd You have made the right decision,The fact the car was not ready when they had days of notice you were coming to pick it up would have been enough for me to ask for my deposit back without any further involvement. I have a very low tolerance to bad service and customer respect. Michael sums it up correctly and I for one had that feeling.

Pete There is no internal battery in your system ,the probable reason you did not have to insert a code is because the system as never had one set. Disconnect the cd housing in the boot and bring it indoors and check the unit is clean and dry. Leave it in your house for a few days then reconnect and try it.

Duncan Why would the engine/transmission set up be different for the US the Lexus is a universal brand sold all over the world. There are differences in the physical inhert parts of the cars but I doubt if the driveline is any different. The Lexusowners forum in the US as a lot more members with your model so that site is more likely to have your answers.

John I have to agree with your views on corporate emphasis but Lexus will tell you that they cannot survive with private sales and servicing as the main thrust, there is too much competition. The main business of these prestige marques is corporate leasing then moving the returns down through the private clients at discounted prices but getting maximum profits on the servicing as the margins on sales and leasing would not be enough to keep a dealership going.

Matthew If your side mouldings are required the following costs apply Moulding; windshield outer upper part no 75531 $55.76 which should include the corner seals that are at the moment a glob of gunge on your car. Moulding outside right ;Part no 75533 $137.90 Moulding outside left :Part no 75534 $137.90 These are prices quoted by Rockauto in the States you will need to add afurther 20% to these costs for import, tax and shipping. You may get the bits from a Breaker but the seals are usually ripped out and damaged and you are unlikely to be able to get them in a reasonable condition. If you go to Lexus they will identify the parts and have them fitted but I fear you will be in the same ball park cost as getting them from the States and even then you will need them fitting.

Hi Its a bog standard exhaust that will be a copy of the original that toyota fitted originally, the exhaust note will be as was if the exhaust is a copy of the original. The original was made from a better quality steel and as lasted the years it was prescribed ,the replacement may or may not last the same time but for £140 you wont be robbed.

Aaron Very valid questions regarding supermarkets and multi story car parks . These parking spaces are now smaller to fit more cars in and the trend for compacts . Personally I avoid the multi story because of the tight access and on supermarket car parks I park in the remote places and stay with the car. When you have a nice car there is always a low life who resents that and will take it out on the car . One of the criteria for owning these cars is constant awareness of unwarranted damage to them.

I can see that it is a claim to be of the Toyota spec but that is highly unlikely as it is not made for Toyota and they will be the the only people with the spec requirements. It is after all your car and if you feel safe using a non designated product there is nothing stopping you but personally I would stick with the OEM product, not a claim to be.

The issue for me in fitting these tables , I would have to get out of the drivers seat to use them ,and for me that would be like having a bath with your socks on. Sorry but unless one is going to invite everyone out for a day in the car they are next to useless. If the customer feedback that Lexus uses to enhance its range of add ons was strong enough on this option they would be fitted as standard, obviously no one as asked. Personally I am not a great fan of off site modifications too these cars, hours and hours of design thought as gone into the original car and to that end they are already perfect in my eyes.

To remove the centre console (which the ariel is plugged into at the back) Use a flat ended screwdriver taped up at the end or a plastic tool that is designed for this task Remove the veneer covering the gear change and holding the ashtray ,gently prise up from the side near to the cup holders on each side,it will pop out as you pull up from that end to the console. Prise out the central air vents which encompass the hazard warning switch. You will have now exposed the top and bottom screws that hold in the centre console. Remove these and gently lift out the console, take care it is heavy . You can now access the plug. To test weather you have a working radio just make up a wire and plug it into the radio if you get nothing at all you have a duff radio.

John I have owned Lexus LS400s for 22 years and a wealth of advice and experience as crossed my path in that time . I have no problem with your thesis that the filter is there to catch debris and sludge but it is designed to do that, because it is doing it does not mean it is not efficient . It would only become useless if one tipped some builders rubble down the dipstick tube. It is a well known fact that a full flush can cause leaks in seals that have been conditioned by the fluid that as been in the car from new there are forums on the web that advise against it for that reason, they advise the gradual change which I have used and found it successful. I am not involving myself in a debate on this subject simply offering my advice .

The transmission fluid change is a lot simpler if you use a pump from the dipstick tube 2 litres in 2 litres out and a trip round the block in between to mix new with old. This is important as the fluid as seal protection additives and a flush of the system could be a shock to the seals and cause leaks. You will use about 12 litres doing it this way. As for the filter my view is that unless you have had some work done in the gearbox and it is working properly there is no need to change the filter, after all this is basically a sealed system and there will be no ingress of foreign matter.

There is conflicting advice in the owners manual and service record schedules; In the owners manual it states the transmission oil should be drain & refill 1.9 litres with no interval mentioned. In the service schedule it states that transmission oil should be changed every 36000 miles. My understanding of this is as follows; My Mark 4 as just completed 35k miles and the transmission fluid is pink so I assume from that that the 36000 oil change is a drain and refill of 1.9 litres ,because if 1.9 litres is approx 20% of the gearbox capacity a change of that amount would keep the oil in optimum condition. On my mark 1 the transmission oil was not changed until it had done 140k miles and it was red not brown so I did a complete change on the 2 litres out 2 litres in drive round the block repeat the exercise using approx 12 litres until the oil is near to pink. To do this method you will need to pump the oil out of the dipstick tube ,not drain it from the pan.

To be totally honest I do not like it,several reasons shout out, over elaborated the interior looks very 1970s Datsun with a lot of tinsil, the swept contours are too much for me. The electronics and aids to driving are not only taking out the driving sensation but are a mutiple of complexities that can go expensively wrong. The real killer is the front grill which reminds me of a shop front burglar defence. I am so fortunate in owning the Mark 4, yes it is dated but it is dated like a Gainsborough or a Monet a time warp machine that never ceases to impress
