Pete The tyre industry recycling code does not allow tyres to go to Landfill these days and most local authorities will not accept them at there recycling centres nor will they allow them to go in landfill sites. The tyres are churned by specialist recycling companies and used for all sorts of applications such as childrens playgrounds surfaces bedding blankets for large animals workshop flooring etc.

Hi Jon The price may look high but the comparisons are indeed worthy of note ,the mileage is very low the condition is excellent the history is tracable with one owner and you have something very rare, a car that is everything you desire. As for the future, if you look at forward value it will at least hold the price you have paid as it heads for classic status, my mark 4 which as the same mileage and is similar in condition as appreciated in price as I paid £3750 and it as been valued in its peer category at around £6k. The point is where are you going to get Luxury cars of this calibre and style in todays suv dominated market for that money. I was in a car park yesterday and a youngish guy with a medium size hatch back approached me saying what a headturning elegant car mine was and said he would love to own it as he had always admired the model. You won't regret your decision.

air vent
ambermarine replied to sam case's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
the vent is held in situ by enclosure pressure ,you need a plastic pry tool and just tease out the vent. -
Not really an issue on history of the car as it only had 19k on it when I got it and I service the car apart from a belt change when I bought it. The only Lexus service in the book is the prelim and the first when Lexus owned it for twelve month. The last thing I want is constant emails from Lexus tempting me towards newer models, the one I have will see me out the door.

Just as a matter of interest I registered my Ls400 in My Lexus and came unstuck more or less from the word go. The initial registration was fine and the site recognised my car from the vin but it asks for the variant codes from the cars v5 and lo and behold there are none on the v5 just blank spaces were there should be letters and numbers, without this info the process halts. after more online research it seems the DVLA are notorious around Europe for this omission and it affects registrations and exports if you don't have it . So my Lexus is not MY lexus as I can't use it.

Vlad You need to insist on a Lexus dealership taking care of the damage,I had an accident with My Mark 1 and the insurance sent me to their approved repair shop which on arrival was awfull, cars piled up like tin cans waiting for approval and shoddy staff welcome . I left and went back to my insurance and told them I would not use these contractors ,the insurance agreed on Lexus doing the job but insisted on their engineer monitoring the costs. Push hard do not let them fob you off. When the work is done Lexus will warranty it so they have to make sure its done properly.

The stainless steel exhaust system was exclusive to the LS400 and the first deveation from this was on the ls430 which had mild steel back boxes .The cost of a complete system was probably a factor in the decision as Lexus were now paring the production costs of later models having established itself in the market place. As for the rest of the Lexus range it would be interesting to know how much of a stainless steel content there is in the exhaust system.

Having lived in a village on the West coast of Scotland for 15 years I can give testimoney to tourists and passing places, we regularly came upon dutch tourists parked in passing places enjoying the view and germans doing it in motorhomes ,I had the jiffy then which was my run about so not much bigger than a Mini it was no problem getting round these obstacles. The biggest danger in Scotland on all roads is deer ,especially around forests and wooded verges they will migrate especially early mornings and around dusk across roads without warning leaping from the side into your path in an instant. I had a couple of near misses but my friends car was virtually written off when a large buck landed on his bonnet ,The speed you hit them at is the crucial factor the slower the better so always keep within the speed limit especially when deer warning signs are displayed

The suspension from what you say can be ruled out the next moving parts on the centre line are the engine mounts and having the trans mount renewed may have highlighted wear in the rubber body of the mounts the 150k mileage is significant on bushings and mounts and changing to new on the transmission could have a effect on the centre line. As an afterthought I recently viewed a video of a diff on a lexus were the bushings were worn and hardened it was not obvious until the drive shafts were removed and the torsion taken away the diff then moved about quite a lot on its mountings.
-
I had this issue on my Mark 1 and it was the trailing arm bushing both sides that caused it,when you had the suspension renewed were these done ,a noisy diff combined with a worn drive shaft sounds ominous and combined could cause vibration in neutral but so does worn bushings. Get your tech to check the bushings on all of the suspension components ,if they are not suspect then your prop shaft bushing and rubber doughnut coupler need a look at as well. If you can find a garage with a rolling road run the car in reverse at about the speed the vibration starts, if it is the trailing arm bushings the vibration will not occur if the body side connection is worn, as the load is taken off the down side.

That info is correct although on the mark1 gearbox the solenoid could be changed without dropping the pan as I found out when my car got stuck in gear and the Lexus /Toyota dealership changed it while I watched, luckily the car was new to me and under extended warranty with 50 k on it. The bill came to £250 in 1996.

The change of ATF is a required service at 40k but that is for a pan drain and is about 2 litres maximum, basically refreshes the fluid but is rarely done after Lexus services cease. The following procedure is required when mileage gets beyond 150k A complete change is more intensive and requires around 16 litres of ATF but with one litre pumped up the filler pipe replace with one litre new a run round the block and continue until the ATF is looking pink not brown. Use Dexion ATF type T-lV The rough change from 2 to 1 is worrying as the transmission fluid would effect all gear changes if it were bad, that rough change could be a sticky solenoid .

Farewell

I can understand the thinking behind your decision and good luck into the future ,with regard to the cheap sale it is not anyone's business as to the cost you accept the fact it is not viable to keep it and did not want hassle in trying to flog it without a ticket and you were happy with the time you owned it. As for the dealer that bought it ,well for a start he as to store it while he breaks it then he as to break it and find buyers for the bits and then he as to dispose of all the bits that don't sell and cost money to get shifted. So when you go to the breakers like Paul Frost looking for a cheap genuine part for your LS430 remember its only cheap because he bought it cheap. -
My car as 40k on the clock and is 21 years old the engine is mint and the oil is changed every two years so you need to rethink your theory. I have owned these ls 400 s for twenty five years and do not subscribe to these sitting about doing nothing theories on harm to the engines, the engine is built to stand extremes in temprature and environmental conditions so why would not being used have a detrimental effect.

My last MOT came in at ,(see file) as you can see zeros all round and I use Morrisons fuel I have no issues with air filters because when I purchased the car I fitted a K&N for life. I know wear on the engine contributes to these readings and my engine is not run in yet but it does show a benchmark to compare with. 2018 mot emissions .pdf
