  1. Bernard That is not correct the coughing and sneezing according to the meds is the main obvious interaction but not the main contact spread which is touch and then contact with the victims mucus membrane eyes nose and mouth then developing into a lung inflammation and immune system destroyer. I did'nt say this is a cure all just another defense weapon to help the fight.
  2. Well the mystery deepens .There is as Steve says proof it is not a JDM and Australia was a country that Lexus sent the LS400 back in 1990 the point I made regarding fog lamps on the valance may not have been the correct requirement for fog lamps in Australia so it could be why they are not on the valance but I am convinced it is a mark 1.
  3. Hi fellow Lexuns There is a way to fight back against this virus which will help everyone in society. When in public places wear fabric gloves that are sprayed in Dettol or other strong disinfectant this should help to kill the virus before it gets on you and stop the further spread by killing the hotspots (touch zones). It will help by eradicating the biggest spread mechanism we know this germ has, "Touch contact".
  4. You are mistaken Malc The mark 1 had two seperate headlights in the cluster the mark3 had one.
  5. This is a mark1 and probably started life as a celsior import from Japan with subsequent badge changes the absence of fog lights rules out european origin. It is in superb condition body wise not sure about the bling.
  6. I used one of those antennas on my Mark 1 and it did have a grommet that fitted but you may be able to buy just a selection of grommets on ebay.
  7. Hi Simon This was a common fault on the early Mark 1 and both of my inner wheel arches rotted from the inside out when the car was less than five years old .The rust showed itself on the rear door enclosures at the top facing edge and was very difficult to access ,I eventually flooded the compartment from the oblong bung at the bottom of the wheel arch on the chassis. This did the job in stopping further rot ,I think the problem occurred because the metal on the wheel arch was so thin it was penetrated by stones and the rot set in beneath the underseal as water got though the holes and collected in the inner cavities. I have had no issues with my mark 4 I think that they improved the areas that were suspect.
  8. Another solution is to adjust the door lock by raising it, this will tighten up the hinges when closed reducing any movement .On my mark 1 the door had dropped a couple of mil with wear after 20 years and 180k and that caused creaking although my mark 4 is now 22 years old there is no creaking and the mileage is a quarter of the mark 1.
  9. The guide slots on the glass get dried out and they too can cause creaking, again silicone spray with the tube attachment down the slots.
  10. The cause may be creaky seals and a quick solution is silicone spray onto a rag and wipe down the seals and abutting metal .
  11. The question you ask is very subjective as Lexus do not have a colour code for their wheels and it as always been a bind matching the old paint finish A specialist wheel refurbishment outfit will have a stock of silver paint that they reckon matches a particular brand and work with that. As yours have been done already the only chance you have is using your spare as a match because the spare is not usually refurbed if it as you will have to ask the paint shop to use their best knowledge.
  12. I seem to remember these were requested before and are as rare as hens teeth .There are a couple of sites on ebay in the USA that sell s/h hub caps for Lexus but they won't ship overseas, but if you know someone in the states you could get them to buy it and ship.
  13. I have never come across a failed or knocking steering shaft being reported on this forum in twenty years. I agree with Malcolm get another inspection of the steering setup and all of the bushes and joints associated with it.
  14. Hi Jack Don't buy a new one yet, I took mine out after buying a new one from Lexus £90 and stripped it down it is a common fault on the 97- 2000 . The cause is over indulgence of lubricating grease and this migrates onto the contact points and causes power cuts . The switch is easy to strip down and clean the grease off . The hardest part is getting at the damn thing.
  15. I know you can get them done in the States for around £250 but I do not know of anyone in the UK who offer the service apart from Lexus who I believe charge around £350 for new programmed keys. There is little point in not having it programmed as your security is compromised and that will affect the car insurance. There is a company in the Midlands who may be able to advise you on a local company to you www.panickeys.com
  16. Interesting remarks regarding the indicar development on the engine and its initial design criteria is it a myth or was the engine derived by Toyota for race cars and then developed for the LS400 by the F1 team.
  17. Yes Vlad ,but someone as to pay for the marble tiled showroom and pretty receptionist and all those suits running about looking busy.
  18. To be honest the service schedule on Lexus models is 90 percent checking the various moving parts and consumables. I have never had either of my two LS400s over 24 years serviced by Lexus I have had a cambelt change which the tech ballsed up and cost the dealership over a grand in new parts . I do my own servicing and brakes I also change out fluids in the trans and brakes .The stated tasks are not beyond anyone with a grasp of simple mechanics and will save a fortune in labour and vat . I use recommended oils and parts and follow the service items in the service schedule apart from the fact I change the oil and filter every two years as it take me that long to do 9k miles, I regularly check the underside for any rust at the same time checking the suspension, obviously I wait for the better weather to complete those tasks. My service schedules are signed off by me and I know that means nothing in terms of credibility for resale but as that is not a option it just keeps me up to date.
  19. With regard to the issue on leaking coolant and transmission mix within the radiator of certain Lexus models it could be that those issues are in part caused by the coolant itself. It as been said that Lexus insist on Toyota red because they are making a killing on the price, this is nonsense the mix of coolant is very specific to the reaction of metals that are in the engine and cooling system and to that end any deviation from the science is likely going to cause issues. It seems pertinent that the issue occurring in the LS430 were to say the least in a minority which points to a cause outside of manufacturing tolerances and is probably why Lexus did not acknowledge there was a design or product fault. It cannot be emphasised enough how important it is to adhere to the specs issued for coolant in the LS range.
  20. Yes George As you say water coming out not vapour as in a combustion engine just as the water comes from an exhaust at first start up as the heat of the exhaust system is not yet warm enough to turn the water to vapour.I agree that the water will need to be collected somehow because there will be volumes of dribbles as you quaintly put it.
  21. ☹️ Only downside is the water emissions with hundreds of thousands of the type on the roads the surface will be constantly wet if not flooded.
  22. Before you refit the plastic trims spray the lips with dinotrol or waxoyl as the pressure washer will remove some of the old protecter.
