  1. Sorry my comments about my post do not apply to your problem Harry.
  2. You cannot rely on the accuracy of GPS to keep you out of jail. There are a lot of variables and your car is moving fast. The legal requirement for speedometers (regulation) is: The regulation states that, when it comes to the acceptable margin of error for speedometers, that speedometers must never under-report a vehicle's speed, while it must never over-report by more than 110% of the actual speed + 6.25mph. I think this means your speedo could be indicating 82.5mph when you are at 70mph. I have a head up display that reads speed from the ODI II port. It does not always agree with the cars speedo. If you use your cars' speedo and drive the limit you should not get a ticket...........
  3. Hi Harry Check for codes - I had this problem on my RX450h and a new hybrid transmission oil pump was needed. The list price for a new pump is £850 plus fluid and a couple of hours to fit. I post about this problem a couple of moths ago. Good luck Bren
  4. The car's battery management system will take of charging it and balancing the cells. Charging to 100% will not impact the battery life and is needed to make sure the cells are balanced. The system will take care of that. If you managed to discharge the traction battery until it is flat you will be in bad shape because you need it to start the car. EV batteries are affected by temperature - Tesla worked this out and go the great lengths to control their battery temps - heat pumps for cooling (not just fans these days) and heating. The 80% charge issue is important to note because it is very bad to over charge these type of battery so a BMS takes care of it. You can fast charge a battery between 20% and 80% - at 80% the system slows down and has to balance the cells. Most people with EVs who use fast charges on the road stop at 80% because of the time to get to 100% from 80%. However, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer and you will be fine. There is a lot of fun stuff talked about batteries. This may help to illustrate what a BMS does - it is not my car but Solar energy system. The blue lines are the 4 batteries charging - they go at full rate until 90% and then slow down an balance out to 100% We could so with some Sunshine 🙂
  5. Coventry Lexus wanted £179 to fit a new rear heat shield to my RX450h this afternoon when it was being serviced and MoT'ed. I declined.
  6. Hi RXboil The fault is the transmission oil pump - at first I thought it was the inverter coolant pump. The list price for the pump is £850 - you can get the genuine part part for £350ish. However, I was stuffed I had to get on the road immediately and my local independant Toyota/Lexus specialist in MK had one on the shelf. It was 2 hours labour to fit. The good news is the fault is fixed and the car runs better than ever. In the past if I put it in gear and accelerated quickly there was a little bump. Now it is as smooth as silk. The Lexus dealer did not deal with my request to investigate. £1K to sort it out. I expect it will be more at a Lexus dealer. The last time I talked to them they wanted £450 the change the front break pads and £660 to replace the rear disks and pads. I use independents these days. Good luck Bren
  7. Hi Adrian I spoke too soon! 15 miles in to my ride to the golf club the fault came back. The pump is running now because the coolant was hot. I need to have a look at the latest fault. Techstream tomorrow. Bren
  8. You should not try and jump start another hybrid either.
  9. New inverter cooling pump fitted and everything is fixed now. £300 for the pump, £260 to have it fitted.
  10. I sourced a new assembly from Rock Auto for £400 delivered took - 3 days from the US.
  11. If the battery discharges on the drive way over night you have a fault or a bad battery. I put a new bat in just after Christmas and regularly leave my car sitting for two weeks with no probs. Over Christmas I left it for a month and the bat went flat - I charged it and it would only go to 75%. It still started the car OK - note it was the original 11 year old battery. Bren
  12. I have a 2012 RX450h and the wiper rack broke - I had to replace it. I think it was damage a few years ago when it was iced up. It is a pain when the wipers stop at 70 in the outside lane of a motor way when it is lashing down.
  13. Hi The tank capacity is the first fill capacity - there is part of the tank you cannot use. Sound daft but...
  14. Hi I regularly drive to the South coast and back (an overnight stay included) and achieve a34/35 mpg. I run on E5 fuel with E10 is drops to 30. I find a constant speed is the secret to lower consumption so I use the cruise control at 70 where I can. Round town 30mpg is difficult with the stopping and starting. I keep my tyres at 34psi - I think the ride is a bit hard but it uses less fuel. I have done 121K miles.
  15. Hi After 35 miles, on Monday during the hot weather, the check hybrid warning came on and the hybrid systems was not doing much i.e. the regen braking was not working. The cruise control did not work. I stopped to make sure I could start the car and it seemed OK. The next morning the check hybrid light was on but everything worked. Another hot day and 50 miles on the way home the problem happened again. I see a P2602 code on my reader but it cannot be easily reset. I reset it by disconnecting the battery tomorrow. Anybody have experience of this? The fault is Coolant pump A control circuit low. That could mean a faulty pump, ecu, connection.... I did see it cost somebody on here £1K at a dealer. Any pointers for more advanced diagnostics would be appreciated. Cheers Bren
  16. I'll give it a go - I love magic potions. Cheers Bren
  17. That's impressive fuel economy Vlad. I have a 2012 and 30 is doing OK.
  18. Just saw this after a quick search - coil over conversion kit for RX450h https://www.fittedvisions.com/products/fv-suspension-coilovers-08-15-lexus-rx450h Look like a £1K ish - may be some tax. I did this years ago on a LS430 when the air suspension bags started leaking and the ride height sensors wore out. Rockauto may have the parts a lot cheaper that Lexus UK will sell them if you want to fix your existing suspension. Good luck Bren
  19. Hi Dave I drove over 350 miles in the last two days. The first half of the trip was using E10. I have been struggling to get much more than 25 mpg lately but I have not been driving much. With sensible driving I used to achieve 30 ish. Last night I filled up with E5 and within 70 miles I was getting 28mpg with mixed driving: motorway, town, traffic jams etc. I think the car runs smoother on E5. I don't think I am suffering from confirmation or inclination bias - I test things for a living. I am with you on the driving style - fuel economy and penalty points sorted mine out.
  20. I can get about 30mpg in my 2012 model - I get a few mpg more from premium and I think the car runs better. I am about to start driving more than 500 miles per week so will do some analysis. The emergency filler door release is under the boot floor - this may help. The emergency tailgate release is at the bottom of the back door - you have to crawl in. See my post about my recent failure - there are many others. I have attached a useful document for people who are new to the RX450h - it is the electrical system dismatling guide. However, it has some really useful info in it. Regards Bren RX450_GYL2.pdf
  21. Fix completed yesterday. New battery was needed - the old one was the original from 2011. It was down to 75% but still working. Lexus parts (Swindon dealership) off a great price - I have a trade account there. The tailgate would not open automatically after the new bat so I bought the ECU and motor. £1200 list price plus fitting was a bit steep. I bought a new one from Rockauto for £275 - delivered for £400. I odereded it at 10:00 New York tine last Saturday; they packed it at 11:00 and shipped it. I received it at 12:00 Tuesday. That is service. I had it fitted by my local garage - £55.00. It's not hard to do yourself - here is a good Youtube video on how to from Viktor G: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pZ_pU0Bqxg
  22. Hi my 2012 RX450h tailgate will not open. Any ideas how to open it? The car starts and runs OK. I think I hear the lock kclicking - I checked the switch in the glovebox and it is in. The AUX battery went flat over Christmas when the car sat for 4 weeks or so. My wife does not like driving it and I was laid up after surgery. I have read a few posts but cannot find how to open the tailgate manually. I suspect the battery may be duff now. If I want to swap the bat I will have to get it open so there must be a way. I will charge the batter from under the bonnet - it seems that some people had success with this method. Any suggestions (to open the tailgate) will be much appreciated - I know flattening a lead acid battery is a bad idea. I am an electrical engineer!! I don't want to fetch a crow bar to the back door. Regards Bren I found how to open the backdoor on Youtube. A pain for a fat old boy like me!!
