  1. Get exactly same problem with my Samsung D900. Had a Samsung SGH Z130 before which always wanted confirmation to connect to hands free, but did not produce the rasberry like the D900

V Loud raspberry noise with Samsung D-500 and Nokia 6230i. Embarrasing. I am frequently finding that people cannot hear me properly and have taken to parking up and switching off the car to disconnect Bluetooth. Then just use the mobile to my ear so they can hear.

    Kind of defeats the object.

Wifes E-Class has a cradle (no bluetooth) and the car brings a strong signal via an inbuilt aerial. Much better reception but soooo uncool.

    Bladgb

if you like to increase signal quality ask your dealer about lexus europes "Bluetooth complementary kit". comes with a cradle and gives you an external antena and charges you handset.

to optimize send and receive quality change settings for send receive level in service menu.

  2. I'm interested... I believe the unit will work happily with the system installed in a new IS?

i think it will work in a new IS, but have a look at www.vaistech.com you will find a compatibility chart there and in the documentation you will find the coordinates of a person at vaistech you can e-mail or call and ask.

if you are interested to download this SoundLinQ SLI iPod Interface installation documentation please follow this link!

  5. i have prepared together with billygarrett a detailed decription to install a SoundLinQ SLI system in the RX400h t for iPod connection to the Lexus audio system.

the documentation is a .pdf file with about 800k (many pictures) and i have no idea how we can share this.

i am a gold member in the international forum and in the international forum we can upload files to make them downloadable for all interested but i have no idea how i can do so in this forum? any suggestions?

it seems there is not much interest after all our hard work !!

yes, sometimes people complaining and demanding a lot and as soon as you have a solution to offer .... silence!

again, if anybody likes to get a detailed installation description (and how to order the unit in the USA) for vaistechs iPod interface, send your e-mail address as PM and you will recive the documantation as .pdf file.

  6. ha ok how do I get to the service menu, is this the standard one from the front menu :)

Also any idea how much a camera cost.. lol maybe I will nip to PCworld and get a web cam!

    :)

    Andy

i only know how you get to the service menue on the RX400. there you hold the INFO button below the navigation screen and at the same time switch ligth on/off 4 times.

if the camera is defective (it could be also the LCD Head unit, price for the LCD Headunit is approx. 2.200,-EUR)

you need a replacement with the same supply voltage and signal output. in this case i suggest to take the camera to an electronic store and aske there if they have a replacement.

  7. Hi,

I have an 03 Rx300 SEL with 73k on it and a few weeks ago the reversing camera started to stop working.

when put in reverse sometimes it was clear and sometimes it was just garbage..

now it does not work at all and just blank screen like scanning for new tv station!

I am not sure if it is a loose cable or camera itself.

I have got it booked into Lexus but no warrant now on the vehicle and a bit worried about cost!

Any advice or experience would be great!

    cheers

    Andy

    some suggestions:

in the serice menu there is a camera test. have a look what this will tell you (if you are in the service menu dont change any settings becouse this can have anwanted side effects).

are the reverse lights coming on when you put the reverse gear in? if the fuse for the reverse lights is blown the backup camera is not working as well (at least this is the case on the RX400)

you can easely remove the cover on the back door by pulling it off with your fingers and the help of a screw driver (is mounted with plastik buttons). camera, cables and connectors are on the left side. move the cables and see if this has any affect.

if you like you can easely dismount the camera by yourself and replace it with a new one.

  9. I am sure I have seen a post that already mentions this, but I can't find it again.

When reversing at night the reversing lights are not very bright and it is difficult to see, either out the back window, or via the camera.

I am assuming I could fit some brighter bulbs (I haven't looked to see what are in there yet) but has anybody come up with a good illumination solution?

    hi! yes this a problem.

originaly there are 15W lamps installed. lamps with more power are to big to be installed.

i have experimented with 35W hallogene lamps. there light is OK but they become to hot and damage the lamp-sokets.

the only solution i can see is to change from normal bulbs to LED's. but this is a comlete design change and i had not time to do it.

beside that the reflector design is wrong and most of the light is a absorbt from a plastik part inside the reflector.

so the easyest solution will be to install a separate reverse light under the bumper. or you hit the brake with the left leg when you go reverse. the brake light is bright and you can see much more.

and here is my experiance with a SE Z800/V800 i wrote to somebody, hope it gives you a hint:

After our last telephone conversation I tried to use my sonyericcson V800 with the RX400 hands free. These are my experiences:

<>After resetting (switching off and on) the telephone, binding with car hands free worked with out any problems. Normal telephone functions have been ok.

When I tried to send the telephone book to the car, the V800 refused to send it via Bluetooth and when I selected send telephone book on the car hands free the connection was terminated immediately.

At that point I was really frustrated. After cooling down I started to thinking and I found out that the V800 automatically connected to the hands free by activating the hands free profile.

Normal hands free sets are using HFP and HFP is normally not used to send/receive DataStream’s.

Question was now, how do I get the car hands free and the V800 connecting to each other by using the OPP in order to get the “send telephone book” working.

The key to success was to initiate a binding after the selection of “send telephone book” on the cars hands free system (connection terminated). When you do a binding at that point the V800 is binding with the OPP as it would be binding with a computer or PDA. Then you can transfer the telephone book. After transferring the telephone book you must delete this connection and reconnect using the HFP. From that moment on the V800 is automatically connected after switching on the car and every thing works ok.

In order to allow the automatic connection between the car and the V800 the V800 should be in the main menu (means you should not have any messages like missed calls or sms messages on the handy screen) otherwise the automatic binding is very often not working, if this happens it is best to switch the handy off and on again (this is also the case with Z600 and V800/Z800 using sonyericcson car hands free systems like HCB 30 or HCB 300)

  11. Hii Roy,

Sorry for delay in replying. I didn't get a notification of your message.

Thanks for the update on the 2 battery systems.

As I understand it, there is no conventional starter motor (or alternator) on the 400h!!!

It is started by the main drive motor/generator which is driven by the big 280 volt drive battery.

So I don't think there is much amperage required from the 12 volt battery to start it as long as there is enough voltage for the control systems...

Please correct me if I am wrong :)

    Billy

Hi Billy, I think we have opened a 'hornets nest' here.... Whilst I was involved for around 30 years with Chloride supplying automotive batteries to the European Vehicle manufacturers, there was nothing around like the RX400. I've been retired now for a good number of years... Now, I just have to find out more info on the RX400 system... If anyone else out there can throw any technical info on this subject, I am sure this will be very much appreciated.. If you think for a moment, all the bulbs (and/or LCD's) must be 12 volt...,

the engine starter Battery must be 12 volts, the radio/CD/tape player/ alarm system etc etc all must be 12v..

These must come off the enginestarting Battery.. I cannot see a 'taping' of the 280volt Battery being made to start the engine (could be wrong here)

I will start digging info on this and post accordingly..

In the meantime anyone having a problem with the standard RX300 cars, keep your eye on the light on the sun visors... This can still be left on when the ignition key is withdrawn from the dash... ifthe panel is not closed completely.. I think this is what dropped me in it....

    regards Roy

    Hi Roy.

Thanks for the tip on visor lights. That would never haver ocurred to me.

Well I wait to be stand corrected on the starting system :)

I agree that all those items are 12 volt driven by the 12 volt Battery.

I may be wrong, but as I understand it the 12 volt Battery is charged by the 288 volt Battery, via special circuitry. So when you "start" the car nothing happens apart form the supply of power to charge the 12v Battery until you are moving at a speed that needs a boost from the engine which is started by the generator working in reverse as a motor and starting the engine.

So then the generator recharges the 288 volt Battery.

When you are stopped in traffic, the engine stops, but the 288 v Battery continues to recharge the 12v ("auxiliary" Battery.

Can some one please confirm or correct this?!!

    Cheers

    Billy

billy i think you description is correct. but we should keep in mind that in modern cars many computer systems are in the "stand by " mode when the ignition is turend off. if not it would take verry long to get the system up and running.

if you do a cold start with the navigation system of the RX400h it takes about 2 minutes to get ready. it is booting from DVD drive and runs through some screens where input is needed and then it comes to the point where it is normaly when you turn the ignition on.

also the security system is working and so are many others. this all consumes current.

so i think we pay with Battery draining for the immediate "ready" after tunrnig the ignition key.

  12. Hi

I've had my RX400h SE-L for about a month now, loving it. However I'm also having big problems with the bluetooth conenction to my W900i Sony Ericsson.

I can get the car to pick up the bluetooth connection as soon as I get in.....I've even made a few test phone calls whilst stationary and it seems to work fine, however the moment I turn the engine on the connection fails and then it wont reconnect.

If I turn the engine off, remove the key, put the key back in the connection picks up again.....turn the engine on....and it drops out again.

    It's very strange....

Am I best off just finding a Lexus dealership and asking them to have a look for me ?

    Thanks in advance, G.

yes, i think this is a problem a dealership should look into and mybe they have to replace the Bluetooth handsfree hardware.

  13. Not really possible without major software & wiring mods. The GPS antenna is about the only thing in common between the two systems.

Software protocols are entirely different which is only the start of the problem as I don't know of a unit that has any form of video/picture output.

So you have a product without an input and one without an output......not a good start!

think there is a missunderstanding here. he means warning of radarbox installations like the TOM TOM TO GO is doing.

  14. On my RX400 the Navigation/LCD Display was not showing the Energy Management Display Screen once when I started the car. The Lexus Service technician told me that the LCD unit had to be replaced. And when it was replaced everything was normal again.

But with this defect (not showing the energy management screen) the LCD screen showed the Audio Screen Information every time something changed (when you changed the volume or when you changed CD tracks) for about 3 seconds in a window on the LCD like you will see if you switch of the Air-condition.

Question is now can this function be turned on somewhere?

    Regards

if sending of telphone book is not working but the normal binding between handset and car hands free is working but when you initiate the telphonbook transfer on the car hands free the connection is terminated try this (this was a mail to an other RX400 owner):

After our last telephone conversation I tried to use my sonyericcson V800 with the RX400 hands free. These are my experiences:

<>After resetting (switching off and on) the telephone, binding with car hands free worked with out any problems. Normal telephone functions have been ok.

  16. I had the same experience when I left the windows and sunroof open and locked the doors. As soon as somebody passed by my car the alarm came on.

On my car RX400h European version with double locking security system) )the following procedure is working:

Pressing the ultrasonic disabling button (if this command is accepted the red security LED flashes fast) the car stays in this mode for a few minutes.

Leave the car and lock it with the wireless (with windows and sunroof open). The red security LED stays on for some time and starts flashing normal.

Now the ultrasonic sensors are disabled. To test it I waited for about 45 minutes but none of the symptoms you described (self double looking and ultrasonic sensors on) happened.

There is another possibility, you could switch of the horn in the security settings (then the alarm is only flashing the lights) but this has to be done with the “Lexus Personalized Settings” and can only be done from your dealer with the diagnosis computer.

What is definitely not working is to leave the doors open. In this case the car is closing the doors after a preset time (time can be changed in the “Lexus Personalized Settings”) and arms the security system.

I received some days ago the European versions of the “Lexus Personalized Settings” from Lexus Europe. If you like to get them please PM me your e-mail address.

  17. Thank you. I didn't know all that as I haven't had traction control before my 400h!!

But, (Mr. Lexus President,) it would still be nice to have the adative cruise control. I have a bad foot which hurts after a period pressing the throttle so I use CC all the time where possible!

    Cheers

    Billy

Yes cruse control is a very nice thing! I hope there is not a missunderstanding!

We asked Lexus to extend the range of the cruse control in the RX400 down to 30 or even 20km/h (which is standard for Mercedes, BMW and Audi). Now the lowest setting is 40 or 45km/h and this is too high for 30km/h zones. For me this would be much more important then a speed limiter function.

But we also asked to modify the cruse control not to accelerate as hard as it is doing now in order to save gas, because now the car consumes more gas when driving with engaged CC as compared to drive manually.

    Regards

  18. sounds like you cant wait for oktober?

question is how the rest of us are getting a new car by then?

    williz

Yeah, I know. That's the bad part :(

I can't see them recalling all the cars for upgrades, but maybe. You never know....

Yeah, this time last year I couldn't wait to get my new car in September.

Now I am doing it all again and waiting till October!!!

In the meantime I have to use my wifes pram..the Citroen C3!!

Oh,... and I believe they willl also have 5.1 stereo sound! :)

    Billy

    and i forgot some thing!

all new models will get "Snow Button" (like the new GS450h) to be able to shutt off "Electronic Traction Control" but i am not shure if this will be alreday in your car when delivered in Oktober.

    williz

    Sounds promising. Thanks Williz :)

I was just thinking about this. Why shut off Traction control in snow? I would have thought you would need it for snow? My problem with automatics in snow is that I can't engage a high gear. maybe that is what it does?

    Billy

Oh no! Traction control is very important in snow and ice conditions, but if it is too slippery than the traction control is reducing power to the wheels(in fact it is a bit more complicated). If this is not helping to get grip again it is further reducing power and at the end the cars is coming to a complete stand still.

So when Mercedes introduced its first traction control system TV channels showed two identical cars going uphill on an icy road and the one with the traction control stopped in the middle wile the one without traction control made it up to the top.

So traction control is an excellent safety feature for driving with higher speeds wile it can immobilize your car in very slippery situations. The RX400h system in combination with the VDIM is one of the best systems I have experienced so far, but still a few times during winter I would like to be able to switch the traction control off (I live in the mountains about 800m high and we have normally 4 month snow and ice).

My last Mercedes had a button to switch the traction control off and it was coming on automatically when the car moved faster than 60 km/h.

And now we come to the missing speed limiter function of the cruse control. You badly need this speed limiter when you drive with snow chains for longer time. If you exceed more than 50km/h than you start destroying the chains and sometimes also the plastic covers of the wheelhouses. So it is very nice to have the speed limiter set to 45km/h and can fully concentrate on the road and driving. I am sure Lexus will learn that as well.

  19. sounds like you cant wait for oktober?

question is how the rest of us are getting a new car by then?

  20. As I fully agree with what Fe_La says about the meeting, I like to add that it was especially frustrating to learn that there was no strategy or reason (not even money saving!) behind the disabling of functions in the European cars.

But let’s wait for the official statement from Lexus to see how they will deal with our list of issues.

Besides the discussion of our list of issues, we hade been told three things which might be of interest to some of you:

    • Lexus Europe is in the process of selecting a third party company to improve the Bluetooth Hands Free support (compatibility testing) in the future and will come up with a internet information for Bluetooth like on the US Lexus homepage.

    • There are Lexus Europe approved “Hands-Free & Bluetooth Complementary telephone kits” (based on Motorola technology)

    .

    • LHF 25, Full audio system integration with auto-muting radio/CD player, interchangeable cradles, high quality sound with echo compensation, External antenna, PDA/Laptop connectivity, Rapid Charge function

    • LHF 35, in addition to LHF 25 functionality it supports up to 50 voice commands for dialling telephone numbers out of the telephone book.

Bluetooth Complementary Kit, add on for the Lexus Bluetooth node, offers rapid charging, external antenna to improve signal strength, mobile telephone keyboard illumination and interchangeable cradle.

    • A Garage door opener will be available around October 2006 which will fit behind the sunshade of the drivers sit. We have seen photos and it looks good.

As soon as we will get more information we will inform you here.

  21. Works mobile phone providers T-Mobile have said that they cannot connect through the stereo to mute so I will need an external speaker and a bracket drilled into the dash :o

Not happy about that they did the same on my IS.

Surely they must be able to get proper Lexus bracket and connect properly????

during a meeting with lexus europe (productmanagment) today we learned that there is a lexus product available called "complementary telephone kits" called LHF 25 and LHF 35. these systems fully integrate with the cars audio system and the LHF 35 supports voice dial and connects to PDA´s and notebooks.

so if you are looking for a solution which integrates with your audio system i would give this a look.
