  1. I get a really 'lost' feeling when the forums go down and I have to think about work for a while It's like cold turkey....!
  2. I'd say Japanese from the reliability point of view, but not sure how cheap they'd be on insurance. Avoid VW Golfs as they cripple you on insurance if you've just passed your test - my cousin was paying around £1200 and it was a G reg!!! My first car was a battered Fiesta and I seem to remember that was the only thing I could afford to insure.
  3. Er, yes and no in my case. I don't have the confidence to go it alone in what I do. The knowledge that my wages pay the mortgage, bills, cars etc makes me more nervous. Simon however is pee'd off in his job, (there's not much opportunity to use your noggin) and he'd be brilliant if he had his own business. We're looking into a couple of ideas including buying a 2nd hand Rolls and doing weddings/events or buying into a franchise. Start small and build up! How's that for a convuluted answer...well, you didn't expect me just to say yes or no did you?! Good luck Ian, difficult decision to make!
  4. Thanks for the stickers...just need my car back now Oh, and then I need to buy the car from the lease company next March so that I can paint the calipers and stick 'em on. Damn, expensive buy :D
  5. I had do work too...glad everything's back to normal now
  6. I lease my IS200 Sport and although it's not the cheapest of options, it works out well for me. Mine's through Lex Vehicle Leasing, and works out over the £400 mark including maintenance - that's only doing 14k miles a year. Costs come down significantly if you have a deposit (I didn't) and it may be worth his while looking at the year old+ cars to lease. They're priced reasonably well and would probably come under budget. Here's some links which may give a better idea on pricing: www.lvl.co.uk http://www.arrivaclick.co.uk/index.asp www.MotorFleet.co.uk www.smartlease.co.uk www.fleetdrive.co.uk/Car_leasing_uk.htm http://www.ovl.co.uk/ http://www.apexvehicles.co.uk/
  7. Spend £25 on Gold membership, take a look at the discounts available and then decide what to do with the £25 that's left ;)
  8. Si's working (the joys of shift work and hardly any weekends off ), just me, my hangover and a bouncy 18month old. I think I've got family stuff that afternoon, will find out for sure later and if I can make it along I will. Can't have Simon being given a passenger run in the Soarer before me
  9. Just counting the days! I leave my present company on 11th Sept (2 weeks time), start with my new company on the 15th Sept and go on holiday for a fortnight from the 17th Sept. Perfect timing :winky:
  10. Yeah, that was the joy of living too near to Heathrow. We moved a while back to somewhere more civilised but I don't know if that makes much of a difference on the insurance as we've sold the car before renewing. Steve, if that's all you're paying on the Soarer what a bargain. Pleeeeaaaaassssse don't tell Simon as he's after one and I keep saying it'll be too expensive. He's already spending my pay rise (in his dreams) and keeps buying AutoTrader drooling over any Soarers and GS300 Sports. Can't think why the Aeredeck isn't doing it for him
  11. What logic! We've had the Prelude for about 6 years and have just sold it. The first year insurance was cheap enough and easy to get hold of. After that it was as though insurance companies cottoned on to the fact they could get away with charging more for imports. I always shop around for insurance (too tight to just pay the renewal without double checking!!!) and every year it was a pain in the bum to find someone to insure imports. You can get good insurers obviously, but it can be a pain in the bum to find them. It's taken our mate who's bought the car from us a good few weeks to get a reasonable quote. Bear in mind that we're talking about a 'K' reg plate - it was costing Simon and I about £650ish a year. He's got full no claims etc.
  12. This is great - needs sound http://www.madblast.com/funflash/swf/splis...hsplashbaby.swf
  13. Why on earth would they do some with and some without Will Head Office get a dealer to do this for free for you?!?!
  14. I must admit I'd be put off having an import ever again. Our Prelude VTEC was a jap-import and the insurers seemed to use that as an excuse to price-hike (even though it's the same spec as a UK one).
  15. I think the usual club merchandise and if we can get tyres, grills, scuff plates etc. that would be great.
  16. Can't make it this time, too close to my hols. Hope it goes smoothly and you have a good day though :)
  17. Better late than never, belated birthday wishes!
  18. Will be in recovery from a Hen night the night before
  19. Well I went to the Littlewick Green village show yesterday. Can't get much more thrilling than a dog show, bouncy castle and best Dahlia show :P
  20. If this is a regular event, I might come up - after my hols and when I get my car back. Can always get a B&B....
  21. We need 120 people to make it viable - judging by the level of interest displayed so far, we won't get anywhere near the numbers we need to ensure the Club's not out of pocket.
  22. The 'do' at the Motorcycle museum has been cancelled We'll have to sort something out on a smaller scale for GENUINELY interested people.
