  1. Following on from your comments and feedback, we would like to make a public statement to help kill some of the rumours that have been circulating. Firstly we would like to apologise to those members who feel this situation has not been handled as best it could. Although we progressed in a way we thought was best at the time, we live and learn and will take note for the future. We ask in return for a full explanation of why we took the extreme action of banning certain members, and why others have received PMs asking that they decide between LOC and another forum, that you understand that we have the best interests of the club in mind and are certainly not driven by politics of any nature (we all have enough of that at work). Firstly, to clarify, we are not against people using other sites at all - it would be ludicrous to suppose otherwise - but when other clubs actively solicit our members, this is against our Ts & Cs and we will act to protect the interests of the club. A 'W***** Free' club was set up by disgruntled members of LOC. It was set up with the intention of being able to chat without language or remarks and comments about other people, predominantly committee members of LOC, being moderated. We took this protest very seriously and made several steps to improve the club for all, and to try and rebuild bridges with disgruntled members who set up the other forums. Despite this, the animosity that prevailed has remained, and is evident in the forums of both LOC and the other site, via phone calls, emails and at meetings. Members of the committee and other members in the club have faced defamatory comments about them, public slatings and other generally nasty two-faced behaviour - and we have proof. We are against the other club as its name can easily be confused with LOC. In fairness and in recognition of the fact it was evident that people wanted to join the other forums, we made an offer to buy them a new domain if they recinded theirs. This was declined. Despite the fact that this is a different club, people not familiar with the history will come to the conclusion that they are related - especially now that the club in question have made some of their forums public, again in direct contravention of our Ts & Cs. All of this, in conjunction with the fact that members instrumental in setting up the other forums, have not been prepared to meet us even halfway, has led us to take the extreme actions we have. We hope that you now understand why we have taken the steps that we have. We have never sought to dictate what our members can or cannot do, we never asked or told members that they could not or should not attend the Christmas party held at the weekend, nor would we presume our members are anything other than adults entitled to make their own decisions. We have asked some members to let us know their intentions as we believe membership of the other forums given the malicious nature of them, serves as a major conflict of interests. We make no apology for protecting the interests of the club, it's sponsors or prospective sponsors and our general membership. - The LOC Committee
  2. Well, y'know I mentioned my freelancing work in Gold to be able to afford to buy my hubby's 30th B'day pressie..... .....er, actually if I was in that line of work I think I'd have to pay them money :yack:
  3. Ooooh. Oh well, you can have fun practising in the meantime :winky:
  4. We lost my 16 year old cousin to cancer nearly 2 years ago, and my great aunt to cancer last year. I planted 2 trees in their memory and smile when ever I see them, it's nice to have something to remember them by.
  5. I was never maternal and never wanted kids until I was established in my career!!!! I'm well and truly smitten now though :)
  6. Ooh, I know what that means and I don't think I should know what that means :shutit:
  7. My son is undoubtably my proudest achievement - as lots of people know as he comes to all the meets! Closely followed by getting married and staying married (separated briefly last year). Other than that I would say work, this time 7 years ago I was a glorified office junior and I'm now a Marketing Manager, a job I really enjoy :)
  8. What's your greatest achievement/proudest moment?
  9. Awww, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, ...You know you want to really :P
  10. We will post an announcement soon. We didn't originally want to make it public as it could have been seen as embarrassing for some of the members concerned, but we've seen your comments, and will feedback asap.
  11. Funny how so far they're all car related ;) Did you wach 5th Gear earlier? They're asking for new researchers/journos...
  12. What do you do for a living now and what would you do for a living if money wasn't a consideration? Me, I'm a Customer Marketing Manager for an IT company, and my ideal job would be saloon car racing :)
  13. I don't know what Claire means but I know that Kieran (my son's name) means 'Little dark one'.
  14. After managing to spin my car in the snow last year, first sign of snow this year I work from home or get a lift with someone else

  16. Pleasure doing business with you sir - hard cash is always good :D Any ideas to raise money via the forums? I guess you won't be the only one who finds it difficult to get to meets...
  17. Let's get some of ideas kicked off then as to how to raise some funds... How about charging £2 extra per person on the entrance fee to the next big meet (Gaydon, March, will be announced soon!), with all the extra going to Cancer Research? Or, our own London to Brighton Rally - peeps paying a few quid to come along? Anyone suggesting activities to include committee members, stocks or wet sponges will have to pay HUGE amounts to see that and have to prove that they've no bricks hidden in the bucket :P
  18. Im pleased to announce that the results of the charity nomination thread has led to Cancer Research being adopted as the LOC charity for 2004. The Committee has offered to pay £1 out of every new Gold membership subs and £2 for Gold member re-subs. We will also look at holding a charity auction/raffle early next year. Please feel free to post your suggestions for fundraising below - we really want to raise a good amount ! (Perhaps a swear box in Gold for the unmodded section - should raise ££££'s!). Thanks for your support of this and also for your nominations. Please bear in mind that a charity will be nominated on a yearly basis so everyone has a chance of having their favourite charities represented.
  19. Welcome to the Club, I got my car 2 1/2 years ago and am still grinning :D
  20. With you on that, it's lovely! My fav beer is Stella but I drink more red wine (any decent New World one will do me ;) ) and I also like whiskey. Talisker or something similar is nice straight, anything cheaper is fine for mixing with ginger ale!
  21. You're forgetting the inexplicable box of tissues on the rear parcel shelf and the Max Bygraves tape in the glove box :yack:
